Hey bud. I’m having the exact issue. Replaced the thermostat with whatever the parts store gave me and didn’t fix issue. Went to ford dealer and they entered my VIN and tried to give me the thermostat that the truck was built with. I had prior knowledge of the “updated” part with the plastic tip so I told him about that. He went in the back and got it for me. I believe the number is the same as the one you are posting about. Changed it yesterday and still didn’t help. What do you suggest now? I’m leaning towards replacing the water pump now just to see if it helps. Also I am using the orange coolant and I seen on another post that ppl are saying to use the yellow instead. Thoughts?

I have a 2018 XLT. After Cam Phaser replacement this is EXACTLY what was happening. I'd get on the highway at 75 to 80 mph and the engine would heat up. Not completely overheating, but it would heat up enough to raise eyebrows. Also, the electric fan was running almost constantly. It sounded like I was driving a jet airplane! After replacing the thermostat with the new, updated thermostat, this solved EVERYTHING. Running great now!

Had my phasers replaced and had several issues after. The main one being the solenoid that controls the blinds that open and close on the grill was put together incorrectly. I was driving around with no air flow coming into the engine and the coolant started to boil and foam. Temps were not out of spec either.

My 2018 ecoboost over heats if I tow my large trailer only at a certain speed and after driving 30 to 45 miles slow down alittle its fine. Think its the intercooler not getting enough air because of the shutter vents. I'll check my thermastat and go ahead and replace it with the newer style to be safe. Thanks 👍

I had the same situation almost exactly. After phasers we’re replaced on my 18 f150 this past winter, once the weather warmed up, it would consistently get warm and show a digital temp once it reached 228. I saw it get as high as 240ish once. (August at 75-80 mph) Dealer replaced the thermostat, gasket and housing. All good for now. Mileage was roughly 45,000. Thanks for the video!

I was pulling a really small trailer but don't think I was going over 60. On my trip back nothing and I was going over speeds of 65 some of the way. I don't drive my truck much but I'm taking it to Ohio in August which is an 900 mile trip for me one way should I replace my thermostat or could it just have been an air pocket. My reservoir was on the low mark when i got it back i did fill it to the correct level. Should I take it for a run on the highway and do some tests thank you so much for your help.

Nice work, I've found the same problem on lots of 17-20 F150s. Most are not even overheating but the customer complains of the Engine Fan running high/ loud more than usual. I've monitored the temp and found it runs near 10'C colder with a new thermostat installed, from near overheat to perfect Operating Temp. The Original Thermostats are pretty shitty when closely inspected, they wear and stick closed like u said not allowing full circulation when the engine needs it. The Fan's are so damn good that the thermostat has to be completely failed and the engine worked hard to overheat as the fans just ramp up speed as the temp increases and move a shit ton of air. I suspect most near 100 000kms could benefit from a new thermostat and the yellow coolant but most people don't have long enough drives or notice the fans. Probably that nasty Pink/ Orange coolant that made em fail in the first place.

    • @joelexline9

Which brand thermostat? I just bought a 2018 3.5 ecoboost with 36k miles and I got p0018 and p0021 the 2nd week I owned it and then the CEL went off and the fans have been running hard since then, supposed to be going to a Ford near me since I bought it 3 hours away. Fml

    • @kingpuff10
      @kingpuff10 Год назад +1

@@joelexline9 Just Oem from the dealer, thhe part numbers are constantly updated for parts that are shitty. As for the Cam codes, kinda odd for the second gen eco to actually set cam codes if its full of clean/ proper oil and somebody hasn't messed up changing the VCT gears. If the Fans Roar all the time and full of coolant its probably not overheating. The same Gens have a common AC problem that causes the Fans the run high. If they start roaring after driving/ high loads, Probably thermostat. Can monitor Temps with Scan tool.

Been following you for awhile. I just wanted to say thanks for posting this. I have 2018 F150 3.5 with 48k. I had my passenger turbo replaced in December. Afterwards I noticed I was running hotter than usual. Just had my cam phasers finally replaced last week. Told the dealership that I had been running hot, above 230 unloaded. They said they road tested it and found no issue. My Ford pass app confirmed they only drive the truck 2 miles so I guess they really didn't care to review my concerns. After some research, I decided to install a new thermostat myself today. The problem is completely resolved. Thanks again!

I never had a temperature issue in my truck. I only saw 225-228 degrees when towing up long grades on the highway. I had my coolant flushed and thermostat replaced by the dealer. Now the truck runs way hotter with and without the trailer. I normally see 230 on a slight incline no trailer. When towing I often lock it in 7th gear on climbs to maintain 230 degrees. I took it back to the dealer they said everything is fine and “that’s just how these trucks run” 2020 ford raptor. Wish I had a tech like you.

If I pull a trailer that is not loaded then it will overheat. In saying all of this I read about the updated Thermostat. I purchased the HLZ-8575 B. It actually says BA on the end. I replaced it and it fixed the overheating problem, but I had no heat. I live in the south and this was in the middle of the winter and there was no heat. We replaced it back with the metal one and I had heat again and the problem came back again with the truck overheating. Any recommendations.

They said i would need to replace the water pump, thermostat, O-rings, gaskets and belt. I agreed since I’m at 150k so I wanted to be preventative and just do it. Now 9 days later they still don’t have this fixed. Would it be in bad taste to recommend they check the part number on the new thermostat? I don’t want anyone telling me how to do my job especially when they are not an I.T. person but I really need my truck fixed and back on the road to get to and from work. They have said it was probably air bubble, potentially a cracked block, sensors and different pressure tests.

My 2018 raptor had the rattle but I didn’t know what it was and last week driving from Texas to Alabama I had loss of power and white smoke pouring from both exhaust pipes. I stopped and checked my oil and coolant and shut truck off. It started after 10 seconds and me pressing gas pedal.
I limped the truck about 150 miles to Tuscaloosa and now my truck is sitting at Tuscaloosa ford.
Been there a week and they don’t even have a diagnosis done but have said cam phasers are bad, water pump bad, and leaking oil pan and they still think more is bad.
They only have 1 engine mechanic and the service manager I caught lying.
I’m 500 miles from my truck and it’s under a Nissan 60k bumper to bumper warranty.
Can anyone give me a suggestion or tell me what I should do ? I really don’t trust this place now.

Good fix ,thanks for the information, My 3.5 is so quiet as well you almost forgot it’s running, I had a 2017 f150 3.5 w tow package and it ran cooler towing than my new truck does , the only difference is my 2020 is a maxtow 3.5 . Both trucks 10 speed,3.55 4x4s, if anything it should run cooler towing but it doesn’t. It never got over 220 but I was only pulling 3500lbs and in 50 degree weather … my old truck could tow my loaded enclosed trailer in august at 90 degrees, with the ac blasting and never go over 212. I wonder if that updated thermostat would help my 2020. I only have 10k mikes on my 2020…thanks for the part numbers.

I think this is what was happening to my 2018 Expedition. Same issue of temp got up just a little. Dealer couldn’t find an issue. 3 days later while on vacation temperature suddenly goes through the roof and overheat warning went off. Pop the hood and coolant is all over the engine. The inlet and outlet hose were blown along with thermometer. Wish I had seen this earlier. It may have prevented a major headache, tow, and larger repair cost. Needless to say, I’m done with my dealer as I’ve seen several posts about it, and apparently Ford is aware of this issue.

I believe so, since the ECM can only learn 1 sensor ID for each wheel at the same time, it's pretty easy to do if u have the right tool, i used the Autel that is around $200, but if u know a shop and are a good customer they might not even charge u to do it since it takes like 5 minutes

@@denisgonzalezblandon1538 turn key to on, press hazard button 6 times. It’ll say “learn front left tire” on dash or similar. Can’t remember exact wording. Take a flat head screw driver and let air out of that tire until you hear a beep from horn. Then you’ll move onto the front right tire and so on. When it learns each tire it’ll beep. After all 4 it’s learned.

Guess that they discovered that the high strength plastic shaft could take the scouring effect against that shaft better that the steel it was using... Funny you would think it was kind of the other way around?.. Interesting diagnosis remedy 🤔...

I had the same problem after my second timing chain replacement. Dealer changed the water pump, thermostat, and radiator and I still had the problem. Saw another video about the new design thermostat and then saw your video. Ordered the new parts and put it in two days ago. Temperature dropped at least 15 degrees and has not gone into the 220's yet. This appears to have fixed my problem. Thanks for this video. It showed the same problem that I had.

I am in a bind as one of thise inlet hoses crack and broke on the plastic Y as my wife was going to work it started saying coolant overheat and she was close enough that she turned around. I replaced the house and add coolant but the overheat message still there and car feels shaky and won't go past 3k rpm or drive fast. Like it is auto throttling itself for safety. I did the funnel to burp it but I think coolant not reaching the thermostat or it went bad.

think I'm going to try and put and updated thermostat in, but ill run my scenario by you and see what you think...used to turn wrenches years ago. Made a career change and moved on from that life. Still can do the work but I tend to have an old colleague, ( ASE MT) handle most of my issues now... Had the 17 f150 3.5 down to him for rear pinion seal replacement and to search for coolant leak. He replaced thermostat and seal with the one I supplied him with (not OEM). Prior to him getting the truck I did have a low coolant situation, but couldn't find an obvious leak and had temps climbing into the 230's+. As I said, he replaced the parts I supplied him with and I'm still getting temp spikes at highway speeds, in 10th gear mainly AFTER I let off the accelerator. IE cruise control up the highway at 75mph, 10th gear, and cancel the cruise control as I'm approaching my exit. Temp numbers will appear over temp gauge, 226-230+. Cam Phasers have NOT been done, but need to be. 100K miles on truck, all stock. Thoughts? Thanks for everything you do for us on here. Your videos have helped many of us out, more then once! God bless

Just started the rattle on my 2018 F150 ecoboost. Had my thermostat replaced 3 months ago as I would show coolent temp on any incline when towing my travel trailer. No issue with Just hit 80k, so Ford will only cover 33% of the phaser fix😢 We're on a 6 month road trip with the trailer and am a week away from an extended stay in Cali. The brake/accelerator hack works to prevent the rattle until I can get the phasers replaced.

We have a used 2017 F150 that we have this condition on. I've been battling it for a while. Started as consuming coolant and overheat, it was leaking water pump. Shop assured me they used Motorcraft parts upon my request and filled under vacuum, including parts you listed.
I still have an overheat like that, I bought a new thermostat and will put it in (from what I've read they tend to fail out of the box sometimes).
If that's not it, what else could it be? I don't think the cam phasers were done on our particular one. It's a Platinum, so should be gen 2 of that 3.5 Ecoboost.

I'm getting spikes of temps and now back to slowly losing coolant (about 1.5-2" on the overflow tank, both pictures taken when engine was cold). I love this truck, but am getting incredibly desperate, not sure if I can throw $6-8k for a head gasket at this.

My 2019 3.5 is in dealership now getting the cam phaser repair done. The service department called trying to sell me a coolant flush with everything. The repair is under the customer satisfaction program but the coolant flush would be out of my pocket. Is this possibly related? Or are they trying to pull a fast one.
