My engine blew up in the middle of Ohio. DD15 a hair away from 1 million. The head went out and with that probably damaged a good portion of the engine. I called around 15k to 20k, and I knew then this was my last day in trucking, at least owning a truck. I rented a car and I took my dog and I have never been happier. I called the bank and I told them to come and pickup the truck and that I was filing for bankruptcy soon. I started with a 725 plus before got into truck and I ended up in bankruptcy. A bad truck engine combined with the worst freight recession in recent history can be a fatal combination. I wish I would have never purchased this stupid Western Star, or a truck for all it matters. I crushed the number, I grossed 280k but after expenses I barely better a bit over 40k. The sacrifice is not worthy in a bad market with an unreliable truck. The 65k is a bit crazy though. I could not see how a full rebuild cannot be done for around 20k in some places, even for a Paccar. DD15 on the other hand can lock up after a rebuild, these engines are like disposable razors.
@@John_Bunk it is pretty tough right now. I a veteran, Ranger, with a law degree, and I having a very difficult time getting a job. I do live in south Texas, and it seems in this place you have to be well connected to get a decent job. I moved from Florida here a while back. I am trying everything to avoid getting back into trucking, unless it is a 40 hour a week job day time, but I am still hesitant. I am doing Lyft and perhaps Uber while I get a Paralegal job pending taking the Texas bar next year and getting licensed. But this bankruptcy might delay getting licensed now. I hate how much trucking has taken from me, I wish I would have never purchased a stupid truck.
@@devoywilliams3956 I think it’s a shame the head rebuilds happen so soon on them, but if that was not a common issue for them they would be really good overall motors, because my time in between I can’t complain, very good on fuel and had no problems ever, this is also my second motor (swap) and I didn’t have much info on the new motor, so it also all depends on how the previous motor was treated before I got my hands on it

Yea it was 65,000.00$ dollar repair without labour yet, that’s for half a rebuild, new head, new turbo, new injectors, valves, there was a lot that blew up unfortunately
@@LifeOn18Wheels yea that’s what I did the first time 3-4 years ago when my head cracked, I did not have that option this time, all the motors I found had blow by and were very high in kms, and the last time I did this it only gave me 3-4 years yenno?
