Back in the 90’s when I was still a fairly new driver, I was heading south on 75 and had just made it through Detroit when I blew a radiator hose and lost all my coolant. This was before cell phones so I was kinda stuck on the side of the road. One of these Reliable large cars pull up behind me and the driver asked if I needed some help. I told him what happened and he said “come on, I’ll take ya down to the Detroiter truck stop and we’ll see if you can get a new hose. I got what I needed and told the driver how much I appreciated the ride and the help and that I’d call a cab to take me back to my truck. He said oh don’t do that. Come on I’ll take ya back to your truck. He drove north to the exit past where I was parked, turned that big rig around in a Kroger parking lot and then proceeded to help me splice the old hose and fill up my radiator. I offered to pay him for his time and he wouldn’t even consider it. We shook hands and he went on his way. In the past 25+ years, I have yet to run into him anywhere. I wish I had got his name. He was driving a long hood Pete with one of the giant sleepers and I recall his truck was the first I had seen with hardwood floors. I’d love to know who he is and if he happens to still be out on the road I’d love to buy him dinner. Just a fantastic human being

When I was just a little girl, my family took a trip to see my uncle’s family at Christmas time. There was a huge blizzard that came out of nowhere but my parents said we were already more than halfway there, so we kept going. The only way we stayed on the road was following the big rig truckers’ tire marks. Unfortunately, some time after dark, our car spun out of control on a particularly icy patch and we landed in a ditch. No one was hurt, but we were nearly up to our necks in a huge snow drift, barely visible, and couldn’t get out. We sat there with the car stalled and no likelihood of anyone coming to help on such a cold windy night, and even if a car did come by, they wouldn’t see us. This was long before cell phones or GPS. As my parents discussed the options, I started to think what an exciting adventure-not realizing how serious the situation really was. There are stories about people trying to walk for help in a blizzard and never being found, but I was an innocent kid and it never occurred to me. Anyway, an hour or two went by and suddenly an enormous truck with lots of lights rolled up to a stop above the ditch and out comes a guy heading straight for us. My dad got out and went to talk to him, then before I knew what was happening, they had hooked up a long chain and the trucker pulled us right out of that ditch. Between the two of them, they got out car started again, and my dad asked the trucker to go slow enough for us to follow him to the next town, which he was more than happy to do. Needless to say, that kindhearted man became our hero. We asked our dad how the driver happened to see us way down in that ditch and Dad said because truckers in big rigs sit up much higher than a car and their headlights shine out much farther. To this day, I have had so much respect for big rig drivers and hold them in awe. That man saved my family that night.

It’s American vs European trucking regulations. Used to be be same.. overall length of the consist.. which is why you had cabovers in the US in the 60s and 70s. Now it’s just the trailer which means that sleepers and long noses don’t need to be counted.
And sleepers are essential for the distances American truckers drive and the long nose improves quietness, vibration, and safety.
You still see cab overs in the US but they are for short distance inner city jobs.

For starters, this truck is really cool. But how appreciative is the guy towards his employers. You don’t hear that much anymore. Top man.

When I was a kid I wanted to be a cop or a truck driver. Favorite shows were Adam 12 and BJ and the Bear. Ended up going the cop route but I still love trucks. When I go to the auctions and historic races in Monterey Im always checking out the Reliable carriers as close as the 20 million dollar Ferraris. Rick you are the man!

As a teenager many years ago I used to hitchhike around Europe with a friend or boyfriend. We often were picked up by truckers and never, ever, had a problem with any of them. Always friendly and gentlemen like. ❤️

Worked for Ford back in the 90’s and ran a lot of vehicle test trips. Shipped vehicles with Reliable and my favorite part of my trips was checking out all the trucks. The drivers were always on time and super nice and proud of their trucks, always let me take a look inside.

Would love to sit down across from Rick at his favorite stop on the road and just listen to all his stories. Such a genuine, gentle, and humble guy. I hope his wife can retire like he mentioned because the way he lit up just talking about her makes me think nothing would bring him more joy than having her by his side on the road. The woman he loves and a job he loves. What more could anyone ask for?

One nice thing about Rick having his own 'camper' are (2) things: (1) less cost spent on motel rooms and whatnot when he's traveling; and, (2) his 'camper' is safe and clean that's custom to him; he doesn't have to worry too much about someone breaking into a motel room that he has no control over - with his 'camper', he does. A happy trucker is a safe trucker.

Me & husband watch RUclips befowe go to sleep.
Well, we’ve just decided to cancel our dream of going Opal hunting in Australia in favour of coming to America & working for Reliable!
What fantastic trucks, the staff & truckers & everything about this company seem absolutely wonderful.
Not often you see workers enjoying their jobs so much. Just shows if you manage a company well & look after your staff you'll rewarded.
    Well done Reliable.

That's a nice ride. The W900's are a great truck. I drove for 40 years. Back in the 90's I hauled cars for almost four years.
I hauled 10 cars but it wasn't an enclosed trailer. I loved hauling cars but being recently married at the time, and my son
just being born, it was time to stay closer to home...
I remember seeing Reliable trucks running down the road over the years, and it seemed like the trucks were always nice.
The condo on Ricks truck would be really nice. So much nicer than being crammed into a 36 inch sleeper and having
to shower in truck stops or motels.

Can’t beat it. I had 39 years in gravel trains and heavy wreckers. I’m outside Flint. Made that same some day speech many times but got retired with a bad heart and a son with cerebral palsy. Oh well been to 45 states and 3 provinces of Canada it bought by house,my cars and put 4 kids and a wife through school. If your going to do it do it like he did. Give yourself a real shot at it. He spent the hours in to know exactly what he wanted out of trucking.

I'm a trucker and would never want this. Not only would it dramatically increase fuel costs it's also defeating the real trucking lifestyle. If you really want home comforts that badly stop long hauling and sleep in your actual bed.
Some men just ain't made for this life, I'm 19 and more of a man than this old dude who needs his comforts. 😂 Yet it's the old dudes who try to say we young guys ain't made for the trucker life... I ain't been home in 3 months so my bed has been a canvas bunk all that time.
