Hi everyone. I pulled my Rig into Iowa 80 Truckstop for the first time on 1 August 1982. I'm retired now, but if there's a better place to pull your Rig into, it hasn't been built yet. To all the employees there, Thank You.
I’m actually impressed how much they actually cook by hand and is fresh. Most truck stops only serve warmed up frozen dishes. (Yes, I know the food they serve is not healthy, but it sure looks tasty)
I drove from 1996 until 2011, and this by far is the best truck stop in the industry. The food is amazing, as is everything else they serve up. If I was routing through Iowa on I-80, I always made certain to swing by!
They are all "entrepreneurs". Alone out there, responsible for themselves and their load What we often forget - the value of the loaded freight is often over $ 1 Million in value. Trucker stops are not only for refueling and relaxing - they are a "safe heaven". Their Trucks are safe and protected withing the boundaries of the stop. Nobody would dare to pull out and eat in a local place, leaving his truck at the mercy of "organized crime".
I was a chef for 32 years I can tell you this much...if you do not have a Mr. Fix it...multi-tasking through out your kitchen your doomed. A Mr. or Ms. fix it is god sent.
Wow! Is there anything that Jake doesn't do? He keeps track of the food inventory, runs out to pick up emergency food supplies, fixes broken kitchen equipment and then makes the truck stops signature apple dumplings! He is amazing ... 😳🍳🥚🔥🍎
Also those trucks.. I've never ever seen even half as big trucks as you have over the pond. I am coming from very small country like it is only just a bit more than 60.000 squeare kilometers. Our roads are not even big enough for these enormous vehicles :D
My Daddy was a truck driver for many years hauling cattle out west. I was lucky enough to make many trips with him through the years. The truck stops were my favorite, the ladies were always so nice to me and finding quarters in the pay phone slots. My Dad passed away in 2004 and I still have the good memories. God Bless America. 🙏🏼🇺🇸
I used to love truck stops in the 90's. Had on local to my little rural city as a teen. Used to go catch a movie after dinner then hit the arcade for a while. It was better than cow tipping.
I drove from Long Island to Denver many times in my car. I always stopped here and enjoyed the diner style food. If your on the road, this is a must stop.
We usta GHAF and go out to the few chunks of brand new I-10, mm 209-217. Get on at one on-ramp, and get off at the next exit. But it seemed like an adventure.

Working as a team helps everything go smoother, and have the heart ever day you come to work,and loving what you do everyday and have the understanding on how to work together as a team.
That plate of meatloaf and gravy and green beans really brought me back to the local DINERS we went to as high school kids and ate delicious meals like that for just a couple of dollars and coke and coffee was just a nickle. That was in the early 50's when I was making $1 dollar an hour at a local supermarket. Loved those days.
This type of content is so much fun to watch and shows just how much there is to see in the USA. I have yet to leave California and see the the country, and I'm only getting older. I want to see Route 66, the truck stop, and much more plus, the birthplace of James Tiberius Kirk. I like Rick, the manager, "Never tell a trucker his breakfast isn't ready." Those are words to live by.
My mind is boggled by the numbers. Back in the late 70's, early 80's, Dad left home at 10:30pm in the truck. He drove to Iowa 80 and bunked down. It is amazing how the place has grown since then.
When my husband and myself drove truck we always looked forward to stopping there. The best truck stop food in America, hands down! He LOVED their pork chops. I am a huge fan of their Apple dumplings.
When my dad was alive and drove truck we went to Iowa 80 all the time. Best time is when they have thier Trucker Jamboree. Best show in the USA. The Moons have done a wonderful job running the Iowa 80. My dream is to get there one more time for a Jamboree. Love the food.

I used to work at the subway across the interstate from this place. Truckers are so dam nice when stopping in Iowa. I was an idiot kid and they always made me smile. Ive eatin so much taco bell from that Truckstop, its crazy
I have to say that there have been times where the waitlist was over an hour and a half to get in and the food is WORTH every penny! Oh and the snacks and drinks are DELICIOUS!
I previously lived in Davenport and ate there NUMEROUS times a month. I ALSO used to work for the food service supplier and my company put in all their coffee equipment and other beverage dispensers, tea, cocoa and cappuccino in the 90's. The owners and managers are awesome people. ❤❤❤
My dad was a journeyman meatcutter starting in 1956 until the 1990's. In those days meat cutters cut everything you saw in the meat case. He carried sides of beef all day long to the cutting room. Can you imagine cutting and wrapping HALF of a steer?!
I use to own a successful restaurant. I look at this and think, “holy shit!” Lol. Good job guys. I’d like to visit this place with my Asian American family.

If you're on the road look for semis or cop cars. Those are the best places to pull in, get a meal, and head out again. In the case of stops like these you can grab a room and not get beat by the cost
One does not get a meal and head out at I80 it's an all day kind of trip. See a movie get a hair cut shop anything from clothes to groceries. There is even a trucker museum. They also have like 3 or 4 fast food restaurants. I know I'm forgetting something.

As a European with American family I have been in some parts of America, but I do love this places. America to me it’s this kind of eatery and people. No politics, race, religion, just a bunch of people going through the great wide open

What I meant about the video is that is kinda funny to me the presentation and I’m completely aware of how Religion and Politics are deeply embedded everywhere in the US, but sometimes you can be at the Waffle House having coffee and a bacon egg and cheese and just enjoy the moment, or a breakfast joint getting pancakes without having to deal with politics and religion. They have anything you want to eat healthy. The salad Bar is unbelievable.
Stopped for breakfast one day, spent the whole day there and slept through the night.

I got hungry watching this from Okinawa as it brought back great memories at truck stops from Minnesota to Iowa to Arizona.

What I meant about the video is that is kinda funny to me the presentation and I’m completely aware of how Religion and Politics are deeply embedded everywhere in the US, but sometimes you can be at the Waffle House having coffee and a bacon egg and cheese and just enjoy the moment, or a breakfast joint getting pancakes without having to deal with politics and religion. Just eating and hanging you know ? I enjoy that about America, i think Americans don’t understand how hard it is to get the things they can get abroad

Your funny. I can't speak for the equipment breaking down but it's almost always that busy. The only time I've seen it not crazy busy is in the middle of the night.
