Hi everyone. I pulled my Rig into Iowa 80 Truckstop for the first time on 1 August 1982. I'm retired now, but if there's a better place to pull your Rig into, it hasn't been built yet. To all the employees there, Thank You.
I’m actually impressed how much they actually cook by hand and is fresh. Most truck stops only serve warmed up frozen dishes. (Yes, I know the food they serve is not healthy, but it sure looks tasty)
I was a chef for 32 years I can tell you this much...if you do not have a Mr. Fix it...multi-tasking through out your kitchen your doomed. A Mr. or Ms. fix it is god sent.
Also those trucks.. I've never ever seen even half as big trucks as you have over the pond. I am coming from very small country like it is only just a bit more than 60.000 squeare kilometers. Our roads are not even big enough for these enormous vehicles :D
I drove from 1996 until 2011, and this by far is the best truck stop in the industry. The food is amazing, as is everything else they serve up. If I was routing through Iowa on I-80, I always made certain to swing by!
We usta GHAF and go out to the few chunks of brand new I-10, mm 209-217. Get on at one on-ramp, and get off at the next exit. But it seemed like an adventure.
I used to love truck stops in the 90's. Had on local to my little rural city as a teen. Used to go catch a movie after dinner then hit the arcade for a while. It was better than cow tipping.
When my husband and myself drove truck we always looked forward to stopping there. The best truck stop food in America, hands down! He LOVED their pork chops. I am a huge fan of their Apple dumplings.
That plate of meatloaf and gravy and green beans really brought me back to the local DINERS we went to as high school kids and ate delicious meals like that for just a couple of dollars and coke and coffee was just a nickle. That was in the early 50's when I was making $1 dollar an hour at a local supermarket. Loved those days.
My mind is boggled by the numbers. Back in the late 70's, early 80's, Dad left home at 10:30pm in the truck. He drove to Iowa 80 and bunked down. It is amazing how the place has grown since then.
I drove from Long Island to Denver many times in my car. I always stopped here and enjoyed the diner style food. If your on the road, this is a must stop.

My Daddy was a truck driver for many years hauling cattle out west. I was lucky enough to make many trips with him through the years. The truck stops were my favorite, the ladies were always so nice to me and finding quarters in the pay phone slots. My Dad passed away in 2004 and I still have the good memories. God Bless America. 🙏🏼🇺🇸
Wow! Is there anything that Jake doesn't do? He keeps track of the food inventory, runs out to pick up emergency food supplies, fixes broken kitchen equipment and then makes the truck stops signature apple dumplings! He is amazing ... 😳🍳🥚🔥🍎
This type of content is so much fun to watch and shows just how much there is to see in the USA. I have yet to leave California and see the the country, and I'm only getting older. I want to see Route 66, the truck stop, and much more plus, the birthplace of James Tiberius Kirk. I like Rick, the manager, "Never tell a trucker his breakfast isn't ready." When my dad was alive and drove truck we went to Iowa 80 all the time. Best time is when they have thier Trucker Jamboree. Best show in the USA. The Moons have done a wonderful job running the Iowa 80. My dream is to get there one more time for a Jamboree. Love the food.
