Thanks so much for watching, I'll talk to you guys next time... Byeee!
looks like maybe rocker covers. not to bad to replace. i would start there. she's so pretty and clean (yes fix the leek!!)
My OCD wouldn't let me rest until I found and fixed it. I just found your channel on my recommendations. Gotta say the first thing I noticed was the gold Bulldog. Gold
The truck is 100% Mack, meaning it has a Mack-produced drivetrain, engine, transmission, and drive-axles. Yes this truck is worthy of fixing it right. Imop.
That is true for trucks built before 1980. It’s definitely a cool old truck. I’ve driven a few similar
Grace….get a darn pillow for your back!! 😂
Thank you Grayce for sharing another video with us. May yall have a good one. Have fun take care
Looks like a leaking rocker cover gasket or engine brake housing gasket.
It will blow out and make a mess under revs and load, you may not be able to replicate it at a low idle.
If you’re buying new gaskets, you’ll need 4 rocker cover gaskets,(they are the same for rocker cover and engine brake housing), 6 fibre washers for the rocker cover bolts, and 2 breather cover gaskets, to suit an E6 2 valve engine.
Once you’ve got it apart and cleaned up, glue the new gaskets to the bottom of the rocker cover, and to the engine brake housing, and let the glue or silastic cure. I sit a brick on them on the floor to hold weight down on the cover while the glue is setting.
Fix it up, you’ll be happier when it’s clean and dry 😊
Good work mate, you’ve got great taste in trucks. Great to see you keeping them alive.
Beautiful R model. Grab the bulldog when opening and closing the hood. That's where the most strength is.
Nice video of the little Mack. You could be valve (rocker) cover gaskets leaking, which might be cork which can stretch, crack or shrink with time. See if parts store have a rubber style valve cover gaskets, which is really nice as you can reuse several times. Or get a Fel-pro product valve cover gasket which doesn't stretch or shrink or crack like cork either. Try to stay away from cork due to age and drying up shrinking and making brittle, then cracking again. Take care
Watching Episode 6 on Dirt Poor, fascinating... reminded me of bagging talc many years ago... nothing sophisticated, just sat in a seat, shoved a paper bag on the spout and actuated... when we hit the target weight it would shut off. The other other half was loading paper bags into rail cars... we had a flexible spring conveyor that we moved into the end of a car, started sending bags down, stacked by hand, slowly moved the conveyor back as a row was stacked... think they were 30 lb bags... for several years I won the "guess the weight of the pumpkin" challenge at the local Harvest Fair... muscle memory knew what 30 lbs was... yeah I was like 30 years old, back in the late 70's.
Me I'm new to the channel as I've seen you on Facebook but glad I found you RUclips. I'm a Kentucky man born and raised for most of my life ( Shepherdsville KY) so nice to see someone from KY making cool videos. Love the Mack and the camo shorts BTW
Love watching your videos Grace thank you for everything you do and all the farmers out there thank you all
Thanks for watching!
I love the way your not afraid to get dirty.
Very cute.
Watching a smaller person trying to flip the hood is always amusing to me since I’m 6’6” 330😂
I just grab it with one hand. But then to drive it I about have to open the door to get my left foot on the clutch pedal😅
Agree. Replace the rocker cover gaskets. Easy to do. Love your videos. Steve in New Zealand
Verify where it comes from then order the parts. Sounds like a great plan to me. Fail proof… Good luck always a pleasure and love your videos❤
Another fantastic video love the fact y'all run macks. Stay safe out there. If your just using it for around the farm I wouldn't stress. Those old macks do leak oil. But I can tell your passionate about your equipment.
when changing out the valve covers and fiber washers dont forget to put the valve cover upside down and press around the bolt holes to push that back out it helps to give a better clamping pressure on the gaskets when assembled my favorite engine I rebuilt over 600 of those
From what I see, looks like the valve cover gasket is possibly leaking Grayce! That’s pretty lucky if it’s the problem! Good luck Grayce! 👌🏻 Beautiful Mack hun, love the color and it’s a clean truck! 👍🏻
Kentucky girl, I love it! ❤️💪😉😎
I’m a Kentucky farm MAN, myself, I own a pretty large trucking company myself, and I am a certified diesel mechanic and aviation mechanic, plus I’m an airline commercial rated pilot as well, now that I got a shot background on me, I’ll just try to help by saying I’m pretty positive your valve pan gaskets are leaking, they’re bad for the bolt backing out on them and loosening up, especially on the R model Mack engines, we have a few of those here around the shop we use for short haul projects, nobody wants to drive them cross country, because they’re Mack’s, and they don’t wear out, they wear the drivers out! lol.
I always said they don’t break down, they only bring the drivers down, there is no luxuries when it comes to a Mack truck, they’re just TRUCKS, and that’s IT!!!!! Lol
I don’t think that I would pressure wash them when they have an oil leak like that, if oil can get out then water can definitely get in! And you don’t want that. I believe I would have fixed that leak first, if I was you, I would start it up and run it just a little bit then change the oil immediately, cause I would imagine you would have a little water in that oil.
Just a little advice from a seasoned trucker, and truck owner operator. 😉😎
It’s going to take a little time for the oil to splash around inside the what looked like the rear valve cover gasket! Thanks for sharing and good luck Grayce! 👌🏻👍🏻🙋🏼✌🏻✌🏻🇺🇸❤️❤️💯💯💯
Nice video, Grayce (and Gavin too). That spray bottle Dawn works really well I have found and now that it's soooo clean, maybe keep an eye on it to see if anything shows up. My thought for what its's worth is the oil you found looks like motor oil from a rocker cover gasket leak and not diesel from an injector - good news hopefully?? You could put on new rocker gaskets to see if that was the problem I guess!! Take care! 😀
The sad part on mack engine was yes folks gasket on oil pan, valve cover and front cover gear.seals on fuel pump and back and front seals.I work 1989 inland cement on shop fix the problems we order customs built gasket expansive but Last longer.the seals was order other brand and same more money but better.Nice paint job now fix leaks lots problems.Good luck.😊 18:40
Sweet truck. Leaks can be fickle like...well, leaks. Take it down the road, get it good and hot. Bring it back and see if it leaks.
again nice blue MACK💙
Love the colors of the truck! Hope it doesn't leak for you anymore!!
Damn the blue Mack is such a sweet truck Grayce. You look so good at the helm of it too, got those hard working farmer legs. Good to see you working on it yourself. Keep up the awesome content sweetheart. 💙🚚
That Really Is One Sweet Looking Mack!!!
Love The Color Scheme!
It sure is! Thank you!
Hey Grace
It will probably only leak when the engine is up to running temp and under load
Gaskets and prongs will dry out when not in use for a prolonged period
Definitely replace valve cover gaskets and injector seals
Jamie 🇦🇺
Enjoyed the video and good luck with the truck!
Another one to use clean engines easy off oven cleaner works good to
When I'm done working on a particular dirty/greasy project, I grab a bottle of Dawn when it's time to degrease me. It works amazingly well...
dblclutch ron, fix the oil leak. put cardboard or paper under the truck to figure out the location of the leak. or at least narrow down somewhat the location of leak, which side of engine is leaking or front to rear of engine. good luck
rear seal on crankshaft notirous leaker. Original had lead metal wire in groove. Mack has a modern seal for it.
Nice keeper rig! Sneaky weepy lube oil leak irritating, my guess is rocker cover to head or external oil vent line or supply to turbo perhaps. Things loosen up as they shake rattle an roll.
It always pays to put some dry lube on those bonnet mount rubbers. A lot easier on the back. I love this single drive Mack though it's awesome.
Working on those doors can be a pain in the butt. Truck is beautiful!!
well at least that ¨howl¨ leak does not look serious .great video keep them coming :D
Nice Truck! 👌Nice Lady! 👀Greetz from Germany!👋
Enjoy your content , I started out in a B model then onto a R and RL back in the 60s.. I was working in a logging shop greasing trucks . Mack kind of lost favor on the west coast logging industry thru the years but they were a workhorse in their time . I always wanted a bulldog as a memento ,
You should use a couple of small pillows for your backrest instead of that plastic container! It would make your back feel better!
Get rid of those mudflaps on the back of the mudguards!! Slim the weight down a bit, put them on the chassis/tank brackets
Nicely done so far but the hood dance was interesting too say the least 👍😎🇺🇸
Truck has a PTO; if it works the 'Dawg might make a nice little farm flatbed!
Grace you are genuinely a very sweet girl. You have a big heart and all that you make me smile.
Judging by the last shown dipstick check, it's possible there is not enough oil in it to expose a leak. I'd bring the level up to full first. My motto is: If it did not leak when it was new, it should not be leaking now.
Love that old truck, for me on my farm operation i would throw a box on it and use it as a single axle grain truck or put a fifth wheel on it and run a small grain trailer on it
I'm very glad I found your channel you are a blessing that is a beautiful Mack truck absolutely beautiful blessings from Martinsville Indiana Jesus saves
"Farming with Duffy AG" runs two R models for his farm. He filmed quite a lot of work on the engine of one of these.
dbl clutch Ron. never use a mirror as a point to open or close a hood. you'll break it off sooner or later--
Good job Gavin.
You should get an Obusforme back rest, your back will thank you for it. 😊
In my experience leaks never get better, suggest you fix it. In any event you don't want all that nasty black oil all over your beautiful truck.
Start with the loose dipstick tube
I refer to leaks like that as a Catapiller appearance protection package. It can't rust if its coverd in oil😅
Hi you two! Hey grayce it could be you ran it to hard, after setting. But inthink that rocker cover gasket i ther is old and needs replaced or dome where else! The reason why is cause of the puddles under it i saw! And it wasent just one either! So i bet you might want to check all the fasteners on that motor! Didnt that truck set for awhile b4 you folks got it! And then drove it like what 9+ hours home! Put a peice of cardboard unfer her and look where the oil drips down can kinda tell.you where the leaks or leak is coming from! Hope this helps! Anf love that paint colors anf scheme it has!
Take it for a ride, im pretty sure its the rocker spacer gasket.
would start with oil filter (make sure its good and tight and ain't got 2 o rings on it. i done that before and it freaked me out) , oil pan, valve covers, timin cover, and check the gasket between the injection pump timin cover, also check the front main and rear main.
i've never worked on any of these mack trucks but thats generally what i look for first, looks like it's got a turbo so i'd also check the supply and return line for the turbo (had a few of those supply lines go bad in vehicles over the years and its always somethin i overlook.)
if yall still can't find it put some baby powder all over the place and run it for a few miles, the baby powder will help find the leak real fast. the baby powder will wash off with water real easy too.
worst case scenario you can't find the leak and you just keep topping it off. sometimes thats just what you gotta do.
thats a BEAUTIFUL TRUCK and i'm sure it'll run for many many years.
also sidenote, make sure the water on the pressure washer is on before you start the engine, runnin the pump dry is real bad for it and can cause premature failure.
go big blue from winchester KY!!
You need to make that a twin screw
Front main seal. The CAT tool alone is $1500.00. i KNOW IT'S NOT A cat, SO MAY BE CHEAPER.
probably not gaskets Sweety.. if you warm it up at a dead idle it is gonna slobber oil.. idle it up to 1200 and do NOT move it till temp is at least 150.. here is what happens.. when cold.. the rings and pistons are smaller than the bore until they warm and expand.. normally the rings pull lubricating oil back down into the pan.. but.. when cold.. that does not happen for a significantly long time if you do NOT warm it up in a timely manner.. THEN... your valves toss that oil that migrated to where it really shouldn't be to parts that are not designed to seal cold and heavy engine oil.. Then.. well.. it'll slobber literally everywhere.. if the inside of your exhaust pipe is wet that is a sure sign.. Do not ever run a diesel at an idle unless it is hot and under load.. also.. when it is HOT and been working.. oil pressure is what cools your turbo.. you will not get that at an idle.. idle her up and leave it for ten to cool that before shutting down....... All that said.. yeh.. try and find a manual that will tell you what to set a torque wrench at to snug up literally all your gaskets.. you really do not want to over tighten those.... Try google if you can not find a manual.. Do all that and you might get away with not having to spend anything on parts ps.. sorry bout the novel lol
I do love the old macks
I noticed a "Manchester Mack" sticker on the window. I have to assume that was Manchester New Hampshire, now known as Ballard Mack. It's about 20 miles from me.
Like they say - if it leaks - it's got oil. - cheers.
We like watching you struggle to open the hood, its comical. I've missed some of your videos recently due to us getting a now 10 week old Siberian Husky puppy. I catch up asap.
Awww a puppy! How fun!!
U don't need to cover the alternator. Doesn't matter at all if it get wet
She plans to wash the engine, oil pan, and frame rails to locate the leak, suspecting it might be near the injectors. 😘😘😘
Usually Grayce what I've been told is all Macks leak, they are known for that, so if it's running ok it's normal
Nice video Grayce you are amazing. Very Beautiful ❤️
18:38 Oil leak can be dangerous. It can cause fire if it gets on hot surface. I would try to repair it.
Gavin is one lucky guy.
Beautiful woman, beautiful truck, beautiful farm! What's not to like?
Re-run it and then check it again.
You need a pillow for your back
You are so awesome Gracie I enjoy all your videos dear ❤❤❤
Could be a valve cover gasket or something worse anyway your definitely on the right track pressure washing it 🤷
At least when it’s leaking, you know it’s got some in it.
That is a good looking mack I love the colors on it
Possibly your return lines for the injectors are needing attention 😅😊😅🎉
Oil beetles get in there and lay eggs. Watch for em.
Hey grayce I love your videos. I’m from Ky as well. Keep up the great content!!!
Thank you so much!!
@@thefarmergrayce you’re welcome 😇
Another great vid! Just let the key board warriors fix it! Lol
Grace I am from 1:16 Owensboro Ky. Western Ky.! Hello!❤
I learned how to drive and got my CDL with a 1976 2 stick Mack U model. I miss those old Mack's. Though trucks .
Run it down the road like you did on the drive to Missouri. Unless you run it under a similar load you may not see the leak.
Drive about 20 to 30 miles then check it. If you don't see any leaks go some more, check it agsin.
Gracie buy a legacy air seat for your truck. 😊
👏 Great video keep it up
Check the valve cover gasket or see if you can tighten them
If it's a simple cheap or necessary to fix I'd fix it. If it's expensive or a pain in the butt to fix I'd leave it till it got too bad to ignore.
Did y'all ask the previous owner if he changed the injectors and could've possibly not cleaned around the injectors and due to the bumps and vibrations could have caused that to leak down? Just a thought love the vids keep them coming along!🤘🏼💕
Great point! I’ll have to ask him.
GRACE...Hood has grease zerks on the pivot points... possibly...make it easier to open..😅😊😅😊🎉
Haha it’s just really heavy compared to my other two macks
Nice truck Grayce. When you get it on the road you should go see Dirt Perfect. You know how he likes mack trucks
I love Mack trucks and cool video.
Enjoyed your video thanx.
nice video it could be cover gaskets ( im just saying it out off courtesy )
Really let the block heat up and stuff some paper towels around the rocker covers, give it a chance for some expansion. It is a simple fix for a long term solution to replace the rocker gaskets. If it is coming from the front and running to the back it will show up. Good Luck.
Looks so gorgeous 😍😍😍
Don't worry about the leak. If it gets a lot worse, then worry and fix. Advise from a old farmer from Nebraska
That is a great old truck. It looks great. I am trying to watch you two on Acres TV. The only show I get is from last year.
Awesome! We are about to release season 2 very very soon, I’ll be sure to let all y’all know when we do!
@@thefarmergrayce thank you.
That sure is a good looking Mack truck and you’re a very beautiful girl I really enjoyed your RUclips channel. Be safe.
I would make sure it was not the piston or the engine head letting the oil pass through
That is a good looking mack, if you're not driving it that much, not sure if I would spend the money to fix it, then again a small oil leak will drive you crazy
