Despite his eagerness to bang anything in existence, zeus is ironically also the god of hospitality
If Zeus came into your home he'd want permission to fudge all there is to fudge in it, but "promoting hospitality" sounds better
I 5ink in the case of Zeus,it’s do as I say, not as I do
Jake you probably won’t see this but you are the reason I got into Greek mythology thank you so much

I regret getting into Greek Mythology because it's so messed up
To quote Neil Gaiman: “F***ing Zeus gets everywhere.”
Wait he actually said that?
Yep
@@omarsalem1219Neil Gaiman says a lot of unexpected things
Here all the ones I like
Athena’s mother Métis is Zeus’s cousin, the daughter of Zeus’s aunt and uncle Oceanus and Tethys
Perseus’s mother Danae is a direct descendant of Zeus (think great x 6 grandpa)
Heracles’s mother Alcmene is Perseus’s granddaughter, making her Zeus’s great granddaughter
Artemis and Apollo’s mother Leto is also Zeus’s cousin
Hermes’s mother the Pliad Maia is the daughter of Atlas and Pleione (who are cousins to Zeus and each other) making her Zeus’s first cousin once removed on both sides.
That also makes Zeus be in the same generational level as Maia’s parents.
And finally, Dionysus’s mother is the mortal woman Semele. She is the daughter of Cadmus and Harmonia. That seems fine at first, but Harmonia is the daughter of Aphrodite and Ares. Aphrodite is either Zeus’s daughter or Aunt depending on who you ask, so Harmonia is either Zeus’s granddaughter or Cousin on that side, and Ares is Zeus’s son, so Harmonia is his granddaughter on that side. Making Semele either his great granddaughter on both sides, or his great granddaughter-First cousin once removed, depending on Aphrodite.
Conclusion? Zeus is gross
Is there any line he won't cross?

I just showed to my history professor here in Greece this video, and he said that your explanation of the powers of greek gods was the best he's ever heard.
Aphrodite being Zeus' kid is the only framework where Zeus not boning her makes sense.
No, it still doesn't make any sence
Eh, Zeus would do her either way.
Brah he slept with Persephone, his daughter & his brother's wife. His reason to not sleep with Aphrodite is not clear.
@@anshpaul7087 I mean, I'd assume it's because she didn't want to sleep with him. Which, usually, is not much of a deterent for Zeus, but even he (or he especially) would be reluctant to piss off the godess of love herself
Well... not the ONLY framework. Her other origin is as a primordial goddess who technically outranks him in the celestial hierarchy. Zeus is a horndog for sure but he's also extremely paranoid about keeping his position as head honcho god. Even if he was brave enough to try seducing her... he would never be brave enough to have a child that could potentially be more powerful than he is which would be likely to happen if he had a child with a primordial goddess.
how many episodes of this will there be, will we see all 92 of his kids.
99 actually. 101 if you want to count the orphic myths.
@@sobanlshaq8271 there’s probably more that we don’t know about, but those stories would have been lost to the mists of time
So in Hades you can tell Orpheus that you(Zagreus) and Dionysus are the same person to fuck with him and he'll end up singing a song about a very similar situation to what you described. I had no idea it was calling back to his actual origin.
Oh boy, I vividly remember seeing the Hades Gameplay and being like hey Zagreus looks neat - let me look up his myths
I had to lie down and stare at the ceiling for a whole hour after that
I like how Zagreus resembles old iterations of Dionysus, cuz when you think about it, Zagreus *is* kinda like an old iteration of Dionysus
All these mythology vida are what turned me into a complete mythology geek
I loved the part where Persephone was giving the middle finger to Pirithous, hilarious. This was a great video.
Lemme explain something real quick with the whole Zagreus and Melinoë thing. Zeus and Hades were combined at one point. There’s this one epithet that is linked to both Zeus and Hades: Zeus Katachthonios, meaning Chthonic Zeus or Zeus of the Underworld. This throws people off sometimes. Hopefully this is sort of helpful for those who are confused.
Yeah I believe the story of Zagreus birth literally says Dark Zues which is just another name for hades
@@anthonymignogna4703 Regular Zeus, Wet Zeus and Dark Zeus.
@@anthonymignogna4703 emo Zeus
People believed that saying Hades’ name would draw his attention and speed them to an early grave, so calling him the Underworld’s Zeus was likely one of the ways they got around it. It was probably one of those things everyone knew, so they didn’t feel the need to explain.
@@tenderandmoist5011 That's a good one!
Guess like father, like son!
*Zeus just got the Robert Baratheon Arc in Greek mythology. And Hera being like Cersei makes alot of sense too.*
4:32 as an aroace person myself, I approve this little reference

"Whaat? I didnt steal any cows, I'm just a wittle baby. I don't even know what a cow is, theehee!" - KILLED ME!
Semele: "whatcha got there Zeus?"
Zeus: "a smoothie"
Another thing to note with the Aphrodite thing is that she wasn't the only love god. There was another god, Eros, who is sometimes depicted as a primordial god as old as Gaia, and sometimes depicted as a son of Aphrodite. In either case, he's commonly depicted as being the one who decides who falls in love with who, using his golden arrows. When a god is said to make someone fall in love with someone, they're usually enlisting the aid of Eros.
I love this cause he got me into Greek mythology
I swear Zeus’s theme song is ‘Sweet Home Alabama’.
No, it's Candy shop by 50 Cent.
If anyone can tell what that's a reference to, you have my respect.
@@legoking6165 I know the reference now, good one.
At this point Zues is gonna go bankrupt over child support
Knowing Zeus, "child support" probably means "I'll support this [woman/anything with 2 legs and a pulse] by giving her a child. I'm sure Hera won't mind this time around."
Fun fact: after Zeus punished Aphrodite, he in fact never had another mortal son, with the last two alive being Sarpedon and Helen. Some later greeks would say Alexander the great was his son but most did not agree with that. So Zeus definily (and other gods too) did not have any more children after that story.
Also Poseidon had a lot of weird sons like horses, two headed giants and a cyclops, it would be funny to explore his sons.
And by a Cyclops, you mean like a hundred Cyclopes.
@@andyhodgson7882 the Odyssey states that only Polyphemus is his son. The other Cyclops are said to be related to the Phaeacians and giants, not Poseidon. The reason of why Poseidon fathered a cyclop is because the mother is Teosa, a daughter of Phorcys, and the sons and daughters of Phorcys were monstrous in nature, so it makes sense that Polyphemus would inheretly monstrous features from that side of the family, instead of Poseidon.
6:43 Yo, I hope he's playing Mass Destruction with that lyre.

The way Jake draws all the Greek gods is exactly like I always pictured them. Lol
I always thought Maia gave birth to Hermes in a cave so that Hera wouldn't find out and kill or curse both of them.
Nah, Hera was chill with Maia
She already lived in that cave. According to the hymm, Hera was sleeping during the affair and never noticed anything.

Good vid
So Zeus is Zagreus' Father,Great Uncle, and Great Grand Father anything I'm missing here? XD
4:53 perfect explication
For the record, it's Eros, god of sexual love, who presides over making people fall in love by striking them with his arrows. Maybe Zeus was able to convince him to strike Aphrodite?
Maybe, by the time the hymm was composed Eros was non-existing (with exception of the Hesiod Eros, who is not the same as Aphrodite son, is more like Phanes), so this why he dont appear in the story, but it would make more sense of Zeus used him.
@@sonofcronos7831 Aphrodite NOT being Eros mother would only make him less hesitant to strike her. Hesiod made him out to be a being that even the gods fear; it would only make more sense in that case.
I KNEW IT 7:06
I knew he was Zagreus
Zeus' family tree is just a tesserakt at this point. He stuck his thunderbolt into everything that has holes
ZAG IS SO TINY I LOVE HIM!
Bro you should definitely make a video about the 9 realms
Can you do a video on “chaos”
7:01-Zeus: "Oh, when Gaea beds their own child that's accepted but when I do it, that's weird!"
According to Hesiod, Gaia bore Uranus(Sky) and Pontos(Sea).
Hesiod, Theogony 126-130:
"And Gaia(Earth) first bore starry Uranus(the Heaven), equal to herself, to cover her on every side, and to be an ever-sure abiding-place for the blessed gods. She[Gaia] bore also the fruitless deep with his raging swell, Pontos(the Sea), without sweet union of love."
Gaia with Uranus: 12 Titanes
Gaia with Pontos: 5 sea-gods(Nereus, Thaumas, Ceto, Phorcys and Eurybia)
This is cool
"Persephone, who was betrothed to her *UNCLE* Hades"

Could you do something on thw Odyssey? And the helios and apollo overlap?
"My goodness, is nothing beneath you?" -Whis, from dragon ball super, to zeus, especially in regards to Zagrius.
Neat. But I thought that Zagreus was Dionysus before he become the version of Dionysus that we know and kind of love
Yes, and this myth served as an explanation of how that happened.
Zeus has got some god-like harizzment
I can’t wait to see how many comments there will be when it premiers
Yea me too
I’m interested to hear the explanation for why Aphrodite is on the thumbnail.
You see there are two Aphrodite's. Aphrodite Ourania who was created after a piece of the sky fell to the sea and she came from the foam (that's what her name means). The other is Aphrodite Pandemos who according to Homer in the Iliad book 5 she was a daughter of Zeus and Dione an Oceanid. After millenia the two Aphrodites merged. Aphrodite Ourania was symbolizing true love and Pandemos was the crazy bitch we all know
She's his daughter in most Greek myths. It's also the only framework where him not boning her makes sense.
