    I know it's not a popular opinion but I think the idea of Medusa being a mortal daughter of two gods, without a real place among mortals or immortals, has much more interesting potential for stories than making her the 85th victim of an Olympian's libido.

    I'd love to see some videos on the Etruscan deities, alongside the Carthaginians, as they're highly underrated imo. It should also be noted that the Roman deities were not just carbon copies of the Ancient Greeks but also may have taken inspiration from the Latin's northern neighbours in Etruria!

    This honestly helps me a lot on some things as I’m trying to write a fictional book about monsters throughout mythology and legends and Typhon is a center focus for my main character to release. Now I have some more beings I can use as I wanted to try to be as accurate as possible, but also have the idea of showing that they evolved throughout the years in their own way instead of what we know of them back then

    You have a few mentions of dragons in this video. I thought that the word and beast dragon was a medieval invention, and the word dragon originally meant snake. (The greeks not knowing the beast dragon)

    • @peteolsen5891
      @peteolsen5891 7 месяцев назад +4

      that is actually quite a complicated question, dragons (whilst not always referred to that) were kinda a historical constant, there were of course the european dragons which you mentioned and the chinese dragons there are also figures such as quetzlocoatl (not sure I spelt that right but have mercy) and of course the greek hydra and the other multiheaded serpent dragon creature heracles got atlas to defeat, and romans (whilst not a valid form of greek myth) also had the cockatrice, the chicken basilisk thing. so whilst they likely werent outright called dragons they were what atleast the modern era considers dragons. though it is an interesting topic (especially for fantasy nerds like me) I would like to hear a counter arguement

    • @trystanreadman1764
      @trystanreadman1764 7 месяцев назад +1

      dragons are a staple of fantasy, a genre almost always set in the medieval era but i'm not sure of any direct dragon references in christianity, the prevading religion of the medieval era. as for the mentions in this video, dragons in some form or another have appeared in so many cultures, so far across the world, across so many eras that some scientist wonder if they may once fhave been real thousands of years ago. TLDR; not a medieval invention but you maybe hear dragon and think of the "traditional" european interpretation despite their prevolence in dozens of cultures ancient and modern.

      Drakos are giant Snakes in greek mythology, they usually dont have wings or are related to fire.
      Typhon however is called a Drako but he is a giant with wings and serpent legs and heads and also heads of lions, bulls, eagles and bears scattered across his body, but his main head looks human. So he is definitily not a traditional medieval dragon.

    • @GothPaoki
