      It's honestly sad when you think about it: She's known as the Greek goddess of the hearth and family, yet 'her family' (i.e. the other gods) is non-existent. The only time they're seen coming together, is to fend off bigger threats (typhon, cronus, etc)

      These myths usually have a ton of variation in them, but then one I heard mortals weren’t actually able to grab the apples so he needed atlas to get them for him. he actually killed the dragon himself beforehand but when he went to grab the apple is disappeared in his hand. He knew that it wasn’t possible for a mortal to grab it because Prometheus told him so when haracles freed him(in the version I know he freed Prometheus so he would tell him where the apples actually were). Prometheus also suggested to get atlas to pick them for him because he happened to be close to the tree. I guess he technically still received help, but it was more like he paid for the help he needed to complete the task.

    • @sonofcronos7831
      @sonofcronos7831 Год назад +10

      Gods help are not take into consideration. Athena helps Heracles a lot in the other stories but Euristheus never opposed it. Also in some versions Heracles just kill Ladon and takes the apples by himself. Only the help of other mortals are considered, Euristheus would not be crazy to oppose the will of the gods. If a god is helping Heracles, when what can he do?

    13:36 I always thought Medusa was a loyal servant of Athena, but she was beautiful. And one day Poseidon came in a temple and stuff started happening, and Athena was mad she was betrayed, she cursed Medusa to be so hideous that if she looked at someone they’d turn to stone. Soon Athena realized that what happened to Medusa wasn’t her fault but Athena was like “…”. So yeah, Athena wasn’t so wise when she accused an innocent worshipper of something she couldn’t control.
    People back then needed to get their story straight!

      As far as we can tell, the original version of Medusa was just a monster lady who was always a monster lady. Ovid made the Medusa-as-a-victim-of-the-gods version up for Metamorphoses because it was more narratively compelling, and it's stuck around because he was right, his version is better.

    i read a book about perspehone and hades, but the book said that persephone hated being stuck on the island with her strict boring mom, so she dipped and went to the underworld. perspehone turned out to be the goddess of life, so thats why she spends 50/50 of her time in the underworld and the other in the living. she also fell in love with hades, after finding out bro is a huge softie. (he paints and stuff yk) idk if this is correct tho- i just read a book so yeah. someone correct me if im wrong idk

    Hey jake, when explaining the story of Medusa, you used the myth of Ovid as her origin which isn’t the main myth of Medusa , other that one story all others agree she was born a gorgon like her sisters but born mortal, this wouldn’t be a bad use of the many myths . If not for use in context of Perseus which does tell the original story of Medusa
