    To me Mackerel fishing is the most entertaining understanding that other species will be caught in the process. Casting and retrieving also works well off the kayak personally I prefer using surface or shallow water large rapala, large spoons and poppers, jigging has to be done as well as seen

    White wine instead of water... Your choice from Sweeter to Dry. And if dry, a little real maple syrup will add even more dimension to the spicy! You can also add pumpkin to that spicy mix. In Cabo San Lucas, we got five nice sized Spanish Mackerel on a panga and took a couple pounds to Soloman's and they prepared it 3 different ways. AND made ceviche. They use Spanish Mackerel much of the time there for ceviche. Keep experimenting with all your recipes until you know there is nothing better to search for. A little at a time. And enjoy every bit of it!

    If you want those spices in a fine paste the only way is the old fashion labor intensive way, mortar and pestle.

    Coconut milk would probably give better texture than the coconut flakes. Also a pestle and mortar would get the coriander seeds more fine but that's gonna be more labor and another kitchen gadget taking up space in your kitchen cabinets lol.

    • @rsderrick
      @rsderrick 9 месяцев назад

      Elias, I agree. Coconut milk makes a big difference when cooking curry, type meals.. I think you’ve got the right idea with blending the spices longer. The other option is to use powdered coriander, turmeric and curry. You can also purchase paste of many of these spices. Thanks for the video.

    I commend you on trying to make your own curry, it’s not typical even among Thai people. My Thai girlfriend just buys Maesri prepared curry in a small tin or a larger tub. Red is probably the most common, but there are a number of different ones to try like Masaman, Green, Chu Chee, and Panang. Chu Chee might be interesting to try with fish. She usually cooks down some canned coconut mild until it breaks and most of the moisture has cooked off, then adds the curry paste. You have inspired me to butterfly a fish and then get her to cook it. Maybe tomorrow. 😉

    Great video. I'd love to know where you put your kayak in at. The last time I tried to put in at the beach, the waves were so nasty that I gave up and went in the ICW. hopefully, i'll have half the luck you do when we get back out there. My family is going to Ocean Isle the week of the 21st through the 26th.

    Fun video, even with all those damned sharks. We get spiny dogfish (Squalus) so thick up here in mid-summer that you see a solid layer of them below the party boat, and your bait never reaches the groundfish below. Huge nuisance! Anyhoo, another great vid of an honest day's fishing and dining afterwards. So appreciate all you do and how you do it!

    do some chunking out a bit further if the weather is golden - you never know what will come up the chum line especially is you are in or close to deeper water - use the motorized kayak - there is no shame in jumping around to whatever is biting - think about trying to cast net some pogies - they may be the ideal chum - you can grind it and freeze it to make less chum work - chum is the way to go in my opinion - is it cheating? a little but it is legal

    If those are actual sharpnose, the ones with the white spots, they're actually pretty good to eat. My dad used to target them when I was a kid. Ate plenty of battered sharpnose fish and chips growing up.

    I am just amazed you are into the Mackerel Indian Curry. I make Spanish Mackerel curry myself with fresh caught Mackerel of the Panama City Pier in Florida. Thai chillies are too hot for this kind of curry. I use kashmiri red chillies (you can get these online or in an Indian Store), these chillies are not hot but give a great color to your curry. You were right the spice mixture you made need to be really grinded up to a fine paste. Pro Tip : You could just add more water to your mixture and grind it a little longer and it will be more fine. Overall you did really well ! Not a lot of Westerners that I know can even imagine making one of these in their houses. I really liked this video and all your videos. Stay safe !

      @@EliasVFishing takes time to get the perfect curry you want. It took me a lot of trial and error before I learned how to make it exactly how they make it in my homeland. You are right this kind of preparation you made goes well with only mackerel fish. All the best !

    Since you can't talk about the flounders, I will. Been hearing some reports of giggers with commercial licenses getting 50-60 per night. No trip tickets and no reporting of their catch. That is now legal 7 days per week until who knows when. The commercial quotas will be the same as last year, as no overages to the commercial TAC occurred in 2022. Only the recs went over limit.
