Been watching for awhile, I was so shocked to see someone fishing the same spots I have have fished for over 4 decades. Awesome videos; love them all. Glad to see someone enjoying the blessed coastal waters of our area as I have for decades. We are truly blessed. Hope to see you on the water! Thanks for all you do!

Grilling lightly marinated king steaks is the way to go. Its actually one of my favorite fish dishes. Bleeding the fish helps immensely. Cool to see someone else discover how good they are like this.

Isn't there a greater chance of Shark's if you bleed a big fish like that in the Kayak?
I know there's drains & the drive well but it'll take time for the smell to go won't it??

Not much more than the activity of fighting and boating a struggling fish imo. Here is a pretty good explanation:

Elias, it's great you mentioned the Okuma Kamoda. It's a real work horse of a reel. It will hold about 300 yards of 65 pound Max Quattro and will button down to thirty pounds of drag. Perfect for pursuing Pelagics up to seventy or more pounds 😊

@eliasvfishing one quick tip that works wonders for me is zip tying a small split ring to the reel seat. Acts as a convenient hook keeper. I saw at 23:57 it was on the bail. Just a thought! Also, wondering what time of the year those big ole black drums roll through. I try to watch every vid any maybe missed it but those battles are epic!

If you're up for a brackish challenge on a rougher ocean day, there are some absolutely massive carp in Burnt Mill Creek downtown, particularly in the Mary Bridgers Park stretch between Princess & Chestnut. I've seen probably a hundred 20+ pounders over the past few years, yet have never seen one caught.
Granted, I've never tried myself and most people are gunning for bass, but would love to see you venture into the more "urban" settings of Wilmington, like when you were catching stripers by the Isabel Holmes Bridge.

After eating kingfish and other species high in heavy metals, it’s good to consume bentonite clay to absorb and pass the metals to avoid neurological damage.

A real easy way I've used to cook mackerel, both king and Spanish, is Japanese style "Saba Shioyaki" Skin on fillet, (if it's a large filet like from a king section into evenly sized pieces). Put in a shallow dish and sprinkle the meat with a couple spoonfuls of sake, let sit 30 or so seconds then pat dry on both sides. Liberally salt both side of the fish, then let it sit at room temp for 20 minutes (don't go too far over that or the meat will get tough). Gently pat dry, then grill skin side down until skin is crispy and fish is cooked through. You can also put it on parchment paper and put in a 425 oven until the flesh is golden. Basically no work and the fish comes out delicious.

Typically for king the people that I have fished with use very light drag. Hooks tend to pull out since they are generally smaller on the tandem rigs. I was always told if you can’t pull drag off with two fingers it’s too tight
