15’ in the winter is an excellent depth when near hard bottom. Jigs tpped with shrimp will catch anything. Big fish not on the rock on grass next to it.

The wind is a given in the late fall and winter unfortunately. I very much enjoy the keys but at $250+ a night at a hotel it's a hard sell for me. That and you may get 2-3 fishable days out of 5. I want to get down there in April or early Oct.

Great fishing Elias… a suggestion… careful on keeping exact legal sizes. The fish will shrink by the time you get to shore and if FWC check you on the beach, expect a “welcome to Florida” ticket. Always a good idea to keep fish one or two inches over the legal size to avoid a situation. Hope you and Meg enjoy your vacation and let her catch some of those fish! 😊

So many species in the same area. 1 mile off shore? What was the water depth? One would think that there would be some huge predators around,,, for that accidental drag screaming hookup.
Snow-on-the-ground up here,,,,, wishing we were there!

Be aware of the Tides in the area you are boating. Have a Tide Chart for your specific area. I write the Tides for the day on tape and have near me.
Depending where you are, the Tide can surpass 3mph and no fun to fight.
Also, always keep your head on a swivel looking at the weather. Fronts can pop up quickly.
