No definitely do not paint the cabinets - wood is really in style - maybe sand and change the stain slightly to not be so red/orange! ❤😊 beautiful work Max and at a bloody bargain! 💃

The cabinets look dated if kept unpainted. A light colour would refresh them and contrast with the dark counter tops.
I am doing the same thing at my country home north of Kingston, and I know how exciting seeing changes/improvements can be!

I’ve been married to my adorable husband for nearly 20 wonderful years and we have lived in our lovely home for 17 of those. HOWEVER I STILL DONT HAVE THE PROMISED NEW KITCHEN 😂😂. I even went through cancer treatment with the promise that after he would definitely get it done…. Nope. So I’m packing my bag and will arrive at your house in around a week. Hope that’s ok. I’ve explained to him that I’m leaving him for Ockie and an outdoor bath tub. ❤

I love how the place is coming together. It's great to see your work ethic and consistency while still taking time to enjoy things and not completely burn yourself out. Plus, Occy is the best helper ever (or at least the cutest)!

I love that you reused kitchen cabinetry and especially the carcasses! I did the same (with the help of my amazing builder) with my last kitchen and it saved so much money! It meant I could spend a little bit on a new tiled splash back and new benchtops. I pulled of the old vinyl wrap from the doors and fronts and sanded, etched primed and painted all the fronts and they looked AMAZING. All up it cost my $4500 in total, even paying my builder for the tiling, some cabinetry reconstruction, new benchtops and all the paint that I bought. Even got beautiful actual mid century timber doorknobs from a little old timber place that I sanded and varnished myself a bunch of times so that they were beautiful. I’m always so horrified now when people pull out cabinetry and then spend $20K on a brand new kitchen with new cabinetry. They could totally at least use the carcasses and save so much money!
I would paint the cupboards - refreshes them and then you create a kitchen in the colours of your own choice

I'd have put the dish washer next to the sink to cut down on plumbing. Your kitchen , your design. You know what works for you and how you work. Flow is everything.

I was going to say the same, dishwasher next to the oven stack to reduce the wet runs, but seeing as Max still has some what readily available access to under the house it shouldn't be too bad.
I would also have swopped the dishwasher and oven around so it is easier for plumbing and so you can still talk to guests while cooking. Still looks great, though, Max! Worth all the hard work.
Are you going to end up with an exposed back on the dish washer!

Looking good, Max! I think it is very welcoming and feels large despite the smallish footprint. I like how you keep everything away from the walls to countertop height, keeps it open. Love seeing Occy undisturbed by whatever you’re doing, however noisy. Though he did perk up when you said Walk. 😂 Enjoy your time off and seeing your girlfriend. Hope we get to meet her soon.
Wow! I keep saying that every time I finish watching your videos. Are you for hire? You are renovation goals x5000! I am so impressed with how much you were able to do and your skills. How did you learn all this Max? Have you been moonlighting construction and carpentry while surfing and van life'ing? You're crazy good! Thank you for keeping the things that went wrong in the video. I'm actually blown away how the modulars all fit so perfectly into the space, except the one for the sink, but that's nothing huge for how the rest worked out. It looks like it was actually designed for your space.
Oh, Keep the wood grain look on the cabinets, it really gives the kitchen its own personality. It looks incredible just the way it is.

Hey, a small addition you could make to one of the cabinet's. Crystal and Jazmin have Doggie Drawers for Izzy and Bella's food and water bowls in the bottom of one of their cabinets at the cottage. An addition like that for Occy's food and water dishes would be good for Occy physically, and good for you keeping the floor free of things on it. The cabinet modular at the end on the side with the dishwasher would be a perfect place for the Doggy Drawer? You could put a permanent shelf above it, which would be the perfect place to keep Occy's food.
And ummmmmm Max, Girlfriend? Seems someones been keeping a secret, which is great to hear about. Can't wait to meet her on your next vid.

Dishwasher against the wall would be more functional. Plumbing in the wall and the stove can face the room so you can chat with visitors while cooking!
We did exactly this in our 2nd house an old boss of mine was having a new kitchen I joked I’d actually like one! Mine was 2 cupboards and base cupboard so we took it away !

What's the plan for the exposed plumbing of the dishwasher? Is there enough clearance from the door to put some sort of backing on to cover it?

Love the new kitchen! Enjoy those home cooked meals. I think you should take a fun 4x4 trip. Not that you need another project; but, every time I see your bathtub I think, "Max really needs to make a beautiful wood/teak plank style cover for the tub." This would keep the tub clean and make for a nice table when you are not soaking. Have an amazing visit with your friends.

Here from VanWives!! 💚 I would love and wish to have people in my life who are interested in this lifestyle and types of interests. I really, really, REALLY want to try off-grid homesteading and I know it’s not as easy as it may look but to at test it out….😢 And I know its obtainable the part that keeps me back is that I would have to leave a lot of close friends and family behind because of them just being so content with regular city life or having their personal reason why they can’t or just don’t want to. It sucks because my adventurous side is being muffled and suppressed to please others and of course we do not age backwards. The more I think about it the more I feel like my life sucks!🤦🏽♀️

I feel you on every part of this video. I am 50+ year old finishing the inside of a tiny house on wheels on my own. I have never told as many inanimate objects to F all the way off in my life.
It's a tiny house and everything seems to be 'just' out of reach. I feel ALL of this. (oh, and every bone in my elderly body is screaming).

@@MaxandOccy They look a bit old fashioned as they are and don't match the overall vibe - but you did a fantastic job and what a bargain! Don't get me wrong the cabinets are great - but do look a bit 1990s which doesn't matter a jot - I just think they could look more blended into your style with a bit of paint and less curves - XX
