Hi Max and friends, You’re doing a great job having renovated many a house. Enjoy your content, great you have help. Depending on how out the wall is you can use thin set to build out the tile. Just use a thicker medium. I’m referring to millimeters. Also not familiar with your products, however do you have to seal the backer board or cement board, same product, different terminology, with a water proof sealant? You’ve probably figured it out by now and your bathroom is complete and beautiful. Best of luck with future projects. Thanks for sharing!
I ask myself, why is a bathroom build so interesting to watch? Max, you and your team are the reason. You each bring something to the process that I can’t help but enjoy watching.

He is such an awesome dog! 😊 And your need to have everything perfectly centered reminded me of the video in your van when Tom joked about what a perfectionist you are! 😂 But that’s probably why everything you do turns out so amazing! Hi Max and Occy. Mate I was so happy when I saw you had bought your own place in the rainforest. In 2000 I bought a very similar place as yours in Uki. It was 2 acres in the rainforest with a cabin. It was advertised for $129.000 and I shook the owners hand on the settled price of $115.000. I then organise the loan with the bank, paid the 10% deposit and signed the contract. I was over the moon, a truely beautiful property. I then received a phone call from my solicitor saying that I had been gazumped. Some other people offered the original price for $129.000 and I lost my dream. 😢 A few months later my solicitor phoned me saying that the council had stopped the new owners from moving into the property because the house wasn't up to code and would need to spend about $40.000 on refurbishments before they could move in. When I saw your beautiful property it reminded me how beautiful the place was that I lost but I was also very pleased for you. Good on you Max, you deserve it buddy. Your videos are fantastic, you do us Aussies proud. I think the property I nearly owned in Uki would probably be worth about 1.2mil these days but would have definitely gone under with the floods there a few years back. I have no animosity towards the people who gazumped me, I just hope they are happy and love living in paradise.. Big hugs to Occy, what a beautiful boy and lovely to see how much you love him. You have done amazing work so far. I truly think the bathroom will be out of this world. Have a great week, you, Occy, Kendall, Glenn, Leo, and your girlfriend.
My husband has done 4 bathrooms over the years. Finding the rotted floor joists, the never connected shower drains, the angled floors, copper shower pans, waterproofing and plumbing has all taken much longer than expected. The major benefits for DIY are costs, extra strength floors, waterproofing the entire room plus ceiling and using long lasting fixtures. It's a room you'll constantly enjoy and appreciate.
GREAT JOB! 1. Would suggest you put a plastic border trim around the garden fence plants to stop the grass from growing into the climbing plants you have there. 2. Can you frame an alcove in the hallway wall so you can turn the fridge to face into the kitchen, and then you could close the wall on the livingroom side?
Yep he really does need to do that as it looks weird and isn't functional. I couldn't cook in that kitchen with that fridge placement. He has done a great job so far so I hope he does it.

You should wear safety glasses, when working on the ceiling. All sorts of stuff can get in your eyes. Imagine the disaster if that adhesive had dripped in your eye?
My dad and my son are both builders, but neither of them would undertake a bathroom on their own. They are TOUGH! The framing needs to be perfect, plus all the seals, and planning for vents and electricals... not easy for a beginner. Getting the plumbing right is critical, and all the waterproofing... good to hear you'll be getting some help in that department. Some things you just need to get right. Looks like it's going to be a skookum bathroom, Max. Love watching your meticulous attention to detail!
I am so proud of you Max and many of your generation. You achieve so much researching and using the internet when doing first time projects - I am in awe. The bathroom looks so great already can’t wait to see the next video. So great you have Glen, Kendal and of course Occy and Leo for support. Loved watching you guys in the water as well.❤️
I can't tell you how happy it made me when you centred the shower niche 😂 I also completely understand the need to tidy up when you're living in a reno project. Our 1850s house has been in reno mode for 6 years and I'm still fighting the mess daily 😅. I think it's lovely that you are trying to get the house put together for when your partner moves in. I might have to show this to my hard working man for some motivation to get onto our bathroom, which is the next big project at our house.
It looks fantastic 🎉Congratulations on a huge win! I worked with tile installers. One of their tricks was to put a border midway to break up any vertical lines. So a natural place to put a border of tiles going in a different pattern would be level with your inset shelf. They would even use the same tiles, just lay the tiles in a different pattern on a few rows. All the best🎉it is looking like a lovely oasis

Hey Max, Damnnnnn Max, Lookin SPOT ON MATE! The end of the video you mentioned about that one wall being a little out of whack. By seeing what you put up on the walls, it looks like what here in Canada we call Cement Backer Board which is made particularly for bathrooms, but also laundry rooms and kitchens where there is water splashing regularly. I'm also not a tradesman, but have helped with and done a few reno's on apartments and a couple houses and in that same kind of out of whack situation we use a cement based wall compound similar in purpose to standard wall plaster for putting up new gyprock, (I think you call it SheetRock there). The nice thing about the cement based compound is that not only is it used for covering screw heads and joint lines like normal wall plaster, but on Cement Board, but in cases like out of whack 1/4 inch, it can easily be used to fake the angle of the wall by simply being a bit of an artist and building up the thickness and making the angle correct and making a really smooth surface of it all. Then doing a proper job sanding to make it look like there was no difference between any of the corners. You have to let it dry about a day longer before you sand the wall that's built up, then give it another full day to dry before setting the tiles on the wall, just to make sure the compound is completely dry. Hope that helps ya out, let me know if it works. Cheers from Toronto, Matt

Occy is the best assistant 😊. You're doing such a great job with your beautiful home. Yes, ladies must have a bathroom ❤
Looks like your next big project should be a workshop! The bathroom will be amazing! Can't wait to see the finished result as I'm sure your girlfriend and all future guests are looking forward to. 🙏❤
Thanks heaps Linda! 💛😊
I just love you max ,u are a very relatable human being so kind &Caring &most of all sensitive &humble.I love what u stand 4 and what you have done for yourself n the property. KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK YOU AND THE CREW. DOGGIES INCLUDED 🎉💛💛💛💛💯👊🏽✌🏽✌🏽
Thank you so much for the support Lisa! 💛
@MaxandOccy your so very welcome, this bathroom is going to be awesome it already is shaping up sweet.👊🏽🖐🏼✌🏽✨️🥂🎄🎄🎄🎄
Loved watching you guys in the water as well.❤️
Man that bath after a few days graft with the beer and the view over the veggie garden and surroundings. That's what makes it all worth it!
Absolutely! 💛
New mic was worth it! I could hear you better.
On another note: I love that you took that surf intermission
Occy looking cute as ever! You’re going to love your new indoor bathroom. You guys do nice work.
Thank you! 💛
Keep up the good work leo and occy!! Keep those humans in line 😂❤❤
Ha, they're keeping us on the job for sure 😅💛
The nail gun sound to the music beat was the best part. Very satisfying.
Always enjoy watching your renovation videos! Have watched my husband doing all the same things for the last 50 years😊
Thank you! 💛
Good tip.
Love the synergy and support that Kendall & Glenn bring! So glad you have help and loving getting to know them!
I'm so happy to have them here 💛
Great job, guys. Max you never cease to amaze me with your ingenuity, patience and kindness. Eager to meet your gf soon.
son of a chippy here - not many things you did made me 'cringe', you've got good techniques and great mates willing to help out - keep up the good work, super keen to see it all done!!!
Best time of day when a new video drops!
🙌🏼💛
What could be better than Max in the shower?... Max AND Glen in the shower!! 😂❤🤗 Thanks, Kendall, for documenting and sharing 😊
Hahahaha
Not really about any of your videos, Max, but your family must be so proud of you & happy for you.
Nooooo don’t leave us hanging. Luv ABI bathroom products. Can’t wait to see end result. . Decent tilers can limit any obvious flaws. (Talking from experience of 100 yr old house - not a square wall in sight)
Love this show so much
I think you have done a tremendous job for not being professionals! I’m so glad you have help for this project, thanks Kendall & Glenn! You & Occy makes this older lady smile!😊💜
OCCY IS SO CHILL!
I love to watch how all you "vanners" became friends and work together helping each other. I'd love to see a video of the Vanwives visiting you in Australia and helping you a bit aswell, it would be awesome. Big hugs to Occy ❤️❤️
Improved audio and phenomenal craftsmanship! Hugs for Occy
Should always have beach days! They're good for the soul!! Oh and a doggie lol! Have a great week. Cant wait to meet the girlfriend 😍!
My week is complete when a new Max & Occy video drops 😩🥳
💛💛
There is so much work that needs to go into a bathroom build. So worth it!
Those cicadas are so noisy! They get that way in the US too. That bathroom is awesome. You have come so far in your skills. I think the most mentally and physically challenging job was when you had the whole roof torn off and the new one not on yet. So glad you have Glen and Kendall there with you! Kudo's
Oh man, I feel the pain of that bathroom making. Kudos to you guys for sticking with it. It does look amazing and it's not even finished
It’s such a pleasure to watch you put your place together. I really think you’re so blessed to have friends like these so available to work along with you. What a wonderful new community you’re creating. Bless you and your furry friends too
Great job on the bathroom! I love seeing you so happy Max!
Thank you! 💛
You, Glenna and Kendall have done a stellar job!! And Occy and Leo, the best supervisors to have ever supervised, are just the best ❤
Beautiful job on the bathroom y'all!!! I'm impressed!! OCCY did a great supervision!!! 💕 🤗🤗
I’m so happy that you have found a lady love and she is coming to live with you 😊😊🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️❤️You really seem so much happier now 😋I have been watching your channel for quite a few years now and it’s great the things you have accomplished 🤗🤗Thanks for all the great content and I will be looking forward to see more great things to come 😊sincerely your biggest fan from Florida Becky🌴🌴
Great progress Max!😄🙌🏼 Love the final shot with you in the tub looking at your beautiful view❤️
I have been traveling through Europe for the past couple of months so have really missed your videos. New lady in your life…..so exciting! You keep sayin “we” and I’m guessing you are not building that bathroom and shower for Occy 😉. She is a very lucky lady and I wish you both well. You are a kind, considerate, compassionate and thoughtful man. What more could anyone ask for? After watching you for years those very positive attributes have always shined through. I could be your mom and I know how proud she must be of you. 🥰
It’s obvious I shouldn’t comment until the video ends 😂
So happy for both of you. ❤️
Great job guys! I love how everything is coming together! Can’t wait until it’s all finished! ❤❤
Sensational video, Max! I’ve done two bathrooms, one being a basement in Alberta, Canada! I am about to begin a third bathroom! I feel your pain! Soooooo much hard work! All the lifting of foundation cement and drilling the dirt to reposition the pipes! Then pouring new floors. Exhausting! Your project looks great! I did tiling work, as well!! And all the electrical and insulating!! Yikes!! Can’t wait to see what you will do next! Your work is amazing, as always! Such a great eye for detail!! Based on your other projects, it will be wonderful, Max! All the very best! I love your videos! Big hugs to the fur boys!! All the best going forward as you finish the bathroom. I am eagerly anticipating your next video! 😃😃👍🏼👍🏼👏🏻👏🏻💜💜👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻
Yayyy, Love when a new video pops up. Happy Happy Joy Joy! Realized I’m wearing my Max & Occy tee at this very moment. ❤️🐶
I love watching the progress on your house, making it so cozy and comfortable! You and your girlfriend are going to love it.
Thank you! 💛
So happy for you ❤ hope you and your GF have a long and wonderful life together and make your home a beautiful sanctuary
Bathrooms are crazy to build, we just did one and boy was it a challenge ❤❤from nsw
Hey Max,
Damnnnnn Max, Lookin SPOT ON MATE!
Cheers from Toronto,
Matt
I look forward to watching the house become a home! I’m so glad your girlfriend is finally moving in. Does that mean we *might* see her in a video sometime? We’d love to get to know this lovely lady who stole your heart. 💝 I’m sure she’s a sweetheart. You are doing a wonderful job on all of the remodeling. Good work!! 🎉❤🙏
😮from a travel channel to a home improvement channel...happy holidays 🌲🙏⭐
Your videos are a pleasure to watch, Max. I'm thrilled to hear your partner is moving in with you! What a wonderful life you have created 🥰
Leo was so funny when he wouldn’t get out of Max’s car 😂.
Good morning from Florida. I just love watching your dreams come true. I appreciate the hard work you and your friends and family have put in. ❤❤❤
Good morning from Idaho!
Good morning from San Diego.
I just love watching these projects. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for watching 💛
I love that little sequence where you are stapling (nailing?) in time to the music. Nice work. I also enjoyed that cross look from Occy (23:55). Oh and I had totally forgotten about the bathtub. Perfect ending.
You don't give yourself enough credit, you are a humble man Max. You have amazing skills. Love that your girlfriend is moving in- that is awesome. Cannot wait for the reveal. I want a reno'd bathroom now😂 Occy just makes me smile. I can feel his fluffy coat from afar, as I owned Aussie dogs in the past. Those cicadas are loud- my apple watch would be buzzing for ear protection.
I don't know how you say ur not a carpenter.... everything you do you kill it!!! I'm mad proud of you and watching you is very inspiring! I have been loving these vids & renos, just love it!!! I used to own a construction company w the x hubby. I ran the business and also worked on sites. Bathrooms were one of my favs, and decks. I especially love interior design so this is so fun to watch and you are extremely talented even tho you don't seem to give yourself enough credit. I think you're amazing & everything is coming along so nice!!! Excited to see what's next!!!
✌🏼💙🐾
😱😱😱 How many close calls have you had with that circular saw attachment, especially with no guard on the tool. Personally I would use a different tool for the same job. We call that blade the widow maker.
Oh my goodness that was a job and a half wasn’t it?
All things considered it’s going to be fantastic when you’re done. I can’t wait for next week.
Lots of luck and easy building in the meanwhile
Wow what a great job so far. Pat yourself on the back Max. I hope the surprises are exciting for your girlfriend. Will she be in your vlogs? Hope you had a good restful weekend and can’t wait for the next one 🎉
We're all so eager to meet her! We know Max would attract a wonderful mate 🥰
@nicothenatural - Yes, but she may not want to be filmed and we need to respect that if that's her decision.
I think he touched on that during his interview with Bec and Eamond. His GF isn't keen on being filmed. Will that change down the road? Never say never. I'm just so happy for him that he found love again.
