Great video!!! Man I don’t know how I found this channel but glad I did. As a kid born and raised in KW I remember the days when we would slay the yellowtail and groupers!!! Man I miss home!! New sub!!
Welcome aboard!
This has been an INCREDIBLY helpful video, thank you! I'm bringing four teenagers down to Marathon in two weeks and we rented a boat for some near shore fishing. Going to follow you for more. Thanks!
I hope you guys bust it out!!
Great video by watching your videos I have learned a lot about patch reef fishing. Thank you
Glad to help out, thanks for tuning in!
“Barry tried to get breakfast”😂😂
LOL Yes he did!
Thanks for sharing...FishOn!!!!
Thanks for watching!
Awesome capt love your videos love to get out there with you
Thanks for watching.
A lot of good lil reef nuggets sprinkled in this vid .. some of i already do on the reef north of you up in lauderdale .. i really liked the bouy ball on the anchor trick tho and im gonna go to sailor man and grab me a bigger ball for this weekend .. Thanks Captn gotcha a new sub 😎👍
Hey thanks for tuning in! Glad you like the channel.
My favorite way to fish 🎣
Its a fun fish to fish for, a lot more technical than you'd think!
New sub. Seen you with Heiko and Captain Dan
Thanks for tuning in!!
Great tips. You passed me while grouper fishing last week. I'm in the 31 Bertram docked near the Vaca Cut. Stop in some day.
Very cool!
Super video, the anchoring is a little tricky when you have strong current but I'll try your technique
That grapple will grab the rock and hold. If you are patch reef fishing use the standard anchor and drop it in the sand. Thanks for watching...
Great informative video. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent instructional video. Fun too.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video Captain!!! Very informative!!!! Learned a lot!!! Thanks again and Tight Lines!!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Tons of great fishing nuggets in here!
You got that right!
Just found ur channel. Really nice videos. Good info on this one. And the first 10 mins were not too much talking in my opinion. Good info throughout
Awesome, thank you!
Nice video, lerning every day,thanks.
Keep it up!
Nice job Capt Matt Great video!
Thanks for tuning in!
Thanks for the info. Just started watching. I like your videos. Straight to the point. Love it...
Thanks for tuning in!!!
Very nice video!
Thank you very much!
Great job job. Really like your content and the way you describe things thoroughly. Ready for some tasty yellowtail😂
Thank you 😋
Great videos. Found you from Florida fishing couple, Dan and Elizabeth. Nice YTs
Awesome! Thank you!
That was some great yellowtail fishing!! You really have them dialed in! I need to make a trip down to the keys to fish with you!! I'm in Pompano Beach but I am from the Bahamas and Ill tell you not only does barracuda taste great as a fried fish it makes even a better bait for huge snapper! Try it once and you will love it and catch one a day!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Cuda makes a great bait!!
Great video. Thanks.
You are welcome!
Awesome video!
Thanks for watching Barin!
Thank you for sharing all that you shared. Will be heading to Marathon in July and the tips you provided, including the anchoring, will benefit myself and family. Great video!
Thanks For Tuning In!!
Great video !
Thank you!
Thanks for the info on the anchoring system. I am down in Marathon right now. Every dive that I go on, I see a delta anchor stuck on the reef. Also, good info on the yellowtailing.
LOL Theres lots of them!!
Great lesson Capt. Thanks!!!!!!
Glad you liked it!
Man with a plan! Great video.
Thanks!
Great video Captain
Thanks for the visit
Great video; thank you very much.
You are welcome!
I found your initial information very useful . Thanks for the education on the tides and current.
Glad it was helpful!
Very amazing job my boss,
I am very proud of your work spirit friend,,,
Thank you kindly
Nice informative video
Thanks for tuning in.
Thanks for the great video. Got to be careful with those dry oats in the wind hitting the deck and getting wet and then slimy and making the deck a skating rink.
Good tip!
Good afternoon Capt Mac, very nice Yellowtails sweet i could use one of those Yellowtails with some fried shrimp and a bowl of cheese grits, and a ice cold Corona, keep fishing and be safe out there. God Bless
Where do you live, I'll bring some over!!!
@@marathonsportfishing I live in Fort Lauderdale, FL Do you do Charters Capt Mac
Yes I do
Great video captain. Any regular oats is good for yellows?
Yes, if you do a lot some of the bait shops sell them in 50# bags. A 2 gallon bucket is nice to mix with some salt water to gum them up a bit and get a large spoon/small ice scoop to pull them out with.
👋quá tuyệt vời bạn ơi ❤rất mong được đồng hành cùng bạn ❤❤❤hihi
Thanks For Tuning In!!
Very nice video. Great tips. Could you tell us about rod, reel and line please?
OK so i have a few of them but this is my fav. Penn Battle II 4000, 12# mono, BTL1017S70 7' 10-17# rod. The 7' rod is a must, gives some flexibility for fighting the fish. An 8' may be better yet! Thanks for tuning in, Tight Lines!
I’m a new subscriber and thank you for the informative video. Just some FYI that’s a Cable Tie NOT A ZIP TIE. They are used in Cable Trays by Commercial / Industrial Electricians hence “CableTie”. Trying to spread the knowledge. I appreciate the video and thank you.
Thanks for the info!
Capt. Matt do ever use braid or just mono. what lb. mono 10-12
OK I'm a bit AR...so i've tried it a lot of different ways and where i ended up is 12# mono-straight to the hook!
What size grapple anchor do you recommend for a 28 center console?
OK here is one link that suggests what size to get: www.hiniumarine.com/product-detail/grapnel-folding-anchors/. I bought the grapple I use 3 boats ago for a 26' and it still seems to be working with the 33'6 but I have not had it down in real nasty conditions (nor do i plan too LOL)
Awesome video for yellow-tail technique. I fish off of Boynton Beach. Aside from adopting your technique for yellow-tail in general, can you recommend tips for that area?
I am not familiar with the area, can you give me some info.
@@marathonsportfishing Boynton beach is 30min south of West Palm Beach. We do have an ocean inlet that blows bait in and out with the tides (and we use those tides to time our Wahoo trolls). There are 3 reef-lines running-north south for about 15 miles in both directions. The first reef is in 1mile out from the beach 40--90ft. depth (we avoid this area like the plague when bottom fishing because of snags) . The second reef is 1-1/2 miles out 90-120ft. depth (less rocky) . The third one is not actually a reef, but instead a steep ledge starting at 2 miles and 238ft. and goes deeper (300-400-500ft++ depth) the further you go out. If you will contact me directly, I can provide you a CMOR maps screenshot so you can see the actual bottom. Thank you, in advance. Cell 561-445-zero-five-zero-eight. David.
@@marathonsportfishing Did you get the info I provided Capt. Matt?
ok running this week, can you email me over a cmor? marathonsportfishing@icloud.com
Hello neighbor. Its kelly ur new neighbor. Hope we can fish together soon.
Hey Kelly, is your last name Willis???
Might suggest a new way to measure yellow tails. On my boat, they have to be at least 11 inches to qualify as a flag, and 12 inches in order to be a true large grade flag. ( FYI,,, 21:06 We measure them point to point, and of course, that is the measurement of the flag portion of the fish. Point to point on TAIL SPREAD). Those, are truly FLAGS.
Cool, most of these were 18" plus.
Great video , I am very new fishing saltwater could you show or post the links of the jigs you use and what bait is best for yellow tail ; last time I went fishing i had a ton of yellow tails behind my boat but only a few bites with a small spoon ; I have a lot to learn ; thanks
There is a link to the jigs in the description. OK for bait: live shrimp, hook in the tail, small chunks of ballyhoo, small chunks of bonita or frozen shrimp. Try the oats as well and the technique i used in the video. I use 12# mono for them., clear
@@marathonsportfishing thanks I appreciate it . I fish in the golf of Mexico in the fort myers area. What do you recommend to troll for mahi mahi in this area any depth that I should be targeting or any good places you know off ? Thanks
check your locals up there, IG/FB should have posts of people catching them. Not sure of how far of a run you guys have.
@@marathonsportfishing thanks 👍🏻
Curious as to how you can tell that the slack tide is in the middle when looking at the water level chart instead of the current chart?
The slack lands in the middle. Compare both charts and let me know how they look.
Question I had as well. This whole time I thought the slack was at the top and bottom. Learn something new everyday
Where is a good place to place to buy a case of chum in Marathon?
Smith Automotive is the cheapest
QUESTION: HOW DONYOU TRAVEL WITH 20-30 foot leaders?
No leaders, 12 pound mono.
do you use fluro leader?
I do not, i use 12# clear mono. Thanks for tuning in!
What you're calling a "slack" tied at 12 noon, is the middle of an outgoing tide (strongest current) before it empties out completly around 3 to 3:30 pm and begins to change direction and the tide comes back in. This is the point of a slack tide. Zero current and tide changing direction. Youre showing us a (x,y) graph of time vs elevation. The steapest slope is when the highst current is occuring.
UMMMM OK, slack tide occurs in our location between peak of high and low, and vise versa. It varies every tide period. You can check the garmin for verification, or just try to dive the bridges for lobster and you will quickly understand when slack occurs.
how many pounds is that anchor?
OK I bought it 3 boats ago...LOL...it was scaled for a 26' The anchor works by clawing into the rock and hooking it not by weight. Most stores that sell them know the size you would need.
@@marathonsportfishing thank you.
I’m tryna go snapper fishing in marathon need help
How so?
I hate to break the news, but your interpretation of tide flow is exactly the opposite of reality. The tide flow reverses direction at the time of minimum low and maximum hi tides - that is the point of zero tide flow. The maximum flow rate occurs at the midpoint between high and low tides. Differential calculus defines this point of zero flow rate as the horizontal slope of the tangent to the curve, which occurs at the highest and lowest point on the curve. Any idiot watching tide flow at any tidal bay inlet can verify this - as the tide flow approaches a change in direction, the flow slows, stops, then reverses.
Hey thanks for the info but I am correct.
In a progressive wave, the maximum flood and ebb will occur around the times of the high and low tides, with the slack water occurring between the times of high and low tide.
If you would like to come down and dive the bridges with me looking for lobster, that will help clear up any misconception of when slack tide occurs.
@@marathonsportfishing We're not talking about a progressive wave but a tide - the large scale rise and fall of the oceans caused by the sun and moon. I dive and snorkel all the time. I'm also an engineer. The minimum flow - zero - occurs when the flow direction changes - at high and low tides, where the slope of the tangent to the tide elevation curve is horizontal. Maximum flow rate occurs at midpoint between the high and low tides, when the tangent to the curve is at approximately 45 degrees from horizontal. Review your differential calculus.
@@marathonsportfishing let me explain it with an automobile analogy - when you reverse your auto direction, do you reverse at full speed ?? no - you slow down, stop and start reverse from zero. The tide flow into a bay or inlet works the same, the flow slows down, stops, then reverses course. The maximum flow rate is approximately halfway between low and high tides.
I look at it differently, first look at the garmin, it'll give you slack time. In this location it lands between high and low, not on the top or bottom. I can tell you for a fact that this is correct. If you would like to put some fins in the water and check it out, i'll drop you on a bridge at high or low peak and you can determine for yourself if it is slack or ripping!
OK so in the earlier post:
In a progressive wave, the maximum flood and ebb will occur around the times of the high and low tides, with the slack water occurring between the times of high and low tide.
This comes from NOAA, I didn't make it up!
Shut up an tighten ur drag ! Wheres ur customers did u hit them over the head with the net before u got started. Chill out its fishing not barking.
LOL
Yo I love your videos but seriously the first 10 minutes of this video all you've done is talk. All the other saltwater people I've watched on here and it's either saltwater fishing or it's paranormal now. When are you going to start fishing? That's where we all come to see you. Catch beautiful. Nice size fish. But so far the first 10 minutes all you do is talk
😂😂😂
Talking is good on occasion, a lot of people don't understand the dynamics of some of the things we take for granite.
I actually rewinded the first few minutes to properly understand what you were trying to explain. I really learned a lot from you talking and explaining what you were doing. I watched the video at least three times already. Please keep instructional videos like this coming. Very informative. Thank you!
Thanks for the comments. Doing the best I can!!!
Thanks, I was able to fast forward 10 minutes and get to the good part
