The grass edge does hold some monster flounder I caught a 29" flounder right off the grass edge in backwaters two days before flounder season ended and tagged out right after so I'd say depending on location they can be holding on the grass edge for sure.

You should try a batter ‘n’ fry of those backbone pieces left over after filleting. The meat cooked with those bones has delicious flavor, worth the effort of picking it out of the bones.

Looks like the place I yelled at you from earlier this year. Going there Sunday and try my best.
I watched your last video in the rain as I pedaled my numb butt back towards the boat ramp on Wrightsville on Tuesday. Crappy luck that day with undersized flounder. Praying I do better Sunday!

I feel like it puts more stress on the fish than not. When it’s open always like in va, we’ll jig for them but mainly fish for other things a lot of days- especially during cobia season. Way too many fish get taken in a 2 week period to sustain them.

Been waiting for the Flounder, especially since you kept catching them pre-season. It's been a very long stretch between "catch & cook" episodes, so the combination was quite welcome. That lure could be called "Flounder Magic" ... ( but it would probably catch a lawsuit even faster than it catches Flounder. )

I discovered a home made tartar sauce for my fried fish catches...
You can change the volume but keep the ratio
    Half cup sour cream
Quarter cup butter milk (low fat works too)
    Quarter cup Mayo
    5 small kosher dill Pickles
2 teaspoons of pickled pepper (looking for the sour/saltyness to cut through the fat)
Two teaspoon of capers you like
Onion poweder/garlic powder (you can leave this out if you don't like either)
    Salt/ black pepper for seasoning
And furikake (I think this is a game changer, but leave it out if you boring)
Just food process the pickled stuff and mix all the ingredients together in bowl. It tastes better when you let it chill in fridge for a few hours.
    Thank me later

When you fish grass flats like this and ambush points, are you looking at your sonar much other then for depth? Reason I ask is I don't use sonar and I plan on fishing some grass flats in a couple weeks on the panhandle

    • @boashna
      @boashna 2 года назад +3

sonars don't work in water below 5ft - you can look for depth change and temp change to find fish. Water above 87 does not have much oxygen in it. you should move to deeper water

I'm sure its just a numbers thing as most fishing seasons tend to be. If you aren't catching them year 'round then they are able to to replenish and repopulate. Or the reverse and they just dont want the flounder population to get demolished by over fishing so they control it.

Come down to Florida. They lowered our limit to 5 flounder per person per day. What's crazy is how abundant flounder seem to be for you, compared to how they are for us. I'm hoping our fishery improves with the lower limit. They caught some guys recently taking smalls and restaurants buying them because the filet fits the plate better. I don't like government, but I'll be damned if the people ruining it for everyone else don't deserve whatever they get. That said, flounder and other fish like redfish are by catch for trawlers, they literally decimate the populations far more than the (honest) recreational fisherman.
