Funny story while fishing for tuna I fell into the cooler containing the fish when we hit a wave ( I was 13ish) and the door closed. Yeah I was very cold and wet the rest of the day. We caught a boat full of yellowfin and Aku ( skipjack tuna) a fun day fishing the South Pacific.
I grew up on Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands, my first job was a marina assistant and would hop on boats when I finished work and fished the rest of the day @@joevtfishing
Gotta love the tangles. When I went on the Yankee Capts, a guy’s line was under mine, so he needed to walk between me and the gunnel, but that’s not what he said! He asked if he could “come inside me” … it was like 2:00 in the morning, only one other person heard him say it. It was pretty funny!
Great video Joe! Wow, that was awesome on the marlin and the poundage of tuna caught. Sweet. Great cook on that tuna. You need some kind of crunch, sesame seeds are tasty. Thanks for sharing!!! Your scribe #s are coming up but not where they should be. Keep them coming.
Well done Joe, another successful fishing trip - a lot of very nice tuna. Your a gun at cleaning it buddy, you could probably do it in your sleep. Look forward to the next one buddy 👍

I had a question can bleeding the tuna in the cooler cause any damage to the meat? Due to the acidic blood or that would take a while with those cool temps in the cooler? Also have u guys ever cored ur tuna and notice any difference in quality in the fish?
"Vern not the time to have a cigarette". I was dying. You know when the addiction has to be addressed when the cancer stick jeaporfizes catching a yellowfin....

I caught some Yellowfin Tuna in Venice and they tasted awful! I think they were mishandled by me when I realized I'd have to freeze them and they weren't bled . But I think Freezing them for a long time affects the taste. Thing is I didn't want to fish for them anyway, I was looking to fish for Sword or something else. But a long freeze period I don't think works on Tuna. Maybe it got freezer burnt.
@@joevtfishing I thought of that way too late, I didn't have a vacuum sealer and the captain said it would last frozen for half a year. The first time was bad because it was a tail cut too near the tail and it had a lot of fiber and was inedible, that part is considered waste. but when serious eating started it was almost 2 weeks, I'm up near Chicago and it could have went bad on the drive home. Learning experience but the meat was wasted, feel bad about it.

It amazes me how people pay to go fishing and then you catch the fish for them and let them reel it in that is Beyond mind-boggling to me. It's almost like hunting in a high fence in a heated stand with a feeder.
Live bait tuna fishing is very difficult to just pick up and do. Bait selection, hooking the bait, hook placement, casting the bait, casting it far enough away from the boat so it doesn’t just swim back to the boat, swimming the bait so it looks lively enough to get bit, knowing how long to wait for fish to eat after it picks up the bait, knowing how hard to reel into/get tight on a fish (usually based on hook, leader, bait size and how far the bait is from the boat). ….. Those are the factors that go into every bait.. This is not a point and shoot fishery like shooting a gun. Unfortunately not every day is like this. I have had trip where guys want to fish their own baits and it has never ended well. It’s not something you can do well if you don’t do it a lot. It’s very hard to pick up and do well. Even people that fish a lot do not hook fish well, can’t swim baits, don’t let the fish eat long enough, amongst other things. However, when we bottom fish it is a plug and play fishery and everyone gets to fish their own rod by them self bc it’s easy to coach and has a lot less variables and factors
Joe we love the content there’s no doubt and we want you to do well but bell sometimes it’s not about catching the fish man you have got to let them try or they will never learn. They don’t pay to watch you catch the fish they pay so they can do it in their own.
