- In this episode we will be refacing cabinets from their old drab varnish, to a bright shiny white with new hardware! We will be walking you through step by step how to reface cabinets so that even you can follow along and find it.... well not effortless, but easy to understand! It does take a lot of effort.

Would a hand-held or electric sander be too much, or is it best to use the manual?

Reface is when you wrap your face frame with a veneer and get new doors to match. This is painting. Good technique but wrong terminology.

You should switch out the light over the sink for a recessed one. Also we installed led light strips under our cabinets. It doesn't cost much and looks cool.

Umm this is refinishing not refacing.Completely different thing.You didnt remove the old face cut new and reinstall.You just painted.

Can you do this exact same process with cabinets that have a few layers of paint already on them? My dad actually made them years and years ago out of wood and painted them. And will you be painting that trimming around that window a different color or no? Just wanted to know seeing how the trimming around the sliding door with be slightly different. Great video!
ya man, this actually isnt refacing. its refinishing. refacing is basically wrapping the cabinets in a pre finished veneer

This looks bad. I came for refacing and got painting. The brush strokes are very prevalent. You’ll be fixing your cabinets in the future.
If I weren’t getting rid of the doors I would have changed them slightly. I would have filled in the routed bits to make the cabinet doors a slab then attached strips along the edge of the cabinet to give them a shaker look. The at the very least sanded in between coats if not get a sprayer. Then replace the hinges with something hidden and possibly slow close.

Excellent tips! I repainted our kitchen cabinets 16 years ago and we are just now beginning to have a few random chip spots. When you take the time to prepare surfaces carefully you really get longevity. Also a few years after repainting we took the upper cabinet doors off, routered openings and installed glass. That would be really simple to do with yours too being solid wood doors. Really enjoying this channel and your updates. Thanks for bringing us along for all your hard work.

how long did it take start to finish? I'm thinking this is a 2 person job and takes about 1 week? we also have a baby, so seeing this can be done with baby is encouraging!
It took about 6 days, but if you cut out drying time and where at the house 24/7 (living there), you could easily do it in 4-5 days.
OMG, this is too funny, I have the EXACT SAME wood design over my window, and the exact same lines on my cabinets from 50 year old house built in the 70's so these tips should fit perfectly for me. Mine are a lighter shade of finish. So these must have been a model number of cabinets from the 70s.
Why not just put tarps down under the cabinets to catch the drips?
I wonder what the finished cabinets would have looked like if he actually resurfaced them?
How long did it take you to redo that refacing?
Not trying to be rude but the old kitchen looked 100 times better.. painting it made it look like a shitty rental kitchen house.. but if that’s what u we’re going for.. good work 👍👍

You didnt reface them, you just painted them
You can’t put latex paint over an oil primer. It will just scratch off easily. You have to use a hybrid latex/oil paint over oil primer for long lasting paint job. If you want to be professional spray it.
Why didn't you also paint the inside of the cabinets? Am I just crazy OCD for doing mine? lol

Why would you make a how to video when you have no idea what your doing, I’m sorry but this is my pet peeve. I get you wanting to show off your project and good for you but trying to teach people how to do someone with zero experience or skills is ridiculous. This is exactly what’s wrong with RUclips. Leave How to videos to the pros.

Lmao! Are you seriously kidding me? There are so many things you are going wrong on so many levels it is not even funny. I am a professional refinisher with 28 years behind me and have spent the past 22 years being self-employed. If I did a job like you are doing for one of my customers, they would have my head.
First off, here’s a little common sense for you… You are using a water-based paint and why? Common sense is, water-based paints are dissolvable by water and the tools are cleaned up by water, so why on earth would you ever think a water-based paint is going to be a durable solution in a kitchen, considering water is the one thing that destroys kitchen cabinets?
Next lesson, why in earth would you not use a power sander versus doing all of that by hand? You are wasting time and effort. I hope to God this is your kitchen and not for a customer. All the dust that is floating around in that kitchen and just settling into your primer and topcoat. 🙄🙄
If you think for one minute your stupid paper mask is doing anything to protect your lungs, it goes to show that you have not been properly educated on the right mask to wear when doing this type of work.
The brush you are using for the primer looks about as good as using a chip brush. I can’t watch anymore of your video because it makes me sick to my stomach to think people out there are doing work the way you are.
You are the exact reason why people like me have trouble getting good money for jobs and convincing customers the difference between price and value
Lastly, what in the hell is wrong with you by using TSP on the front while they are still hung on the cabinets? Why on earth would you not have taken them off first?! 🙄🙄
