FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
*Q: Can I use photo paper in this machine?*
A: No. Photo paper's glossy finish will melt and damage the machine's internals.
*Q: Can this print on card stock/heavy-weighted paper?*
A: This printer can print on plain paper and any paper that specifically states that it is LASER-COMPATIBLE. All paper that does not EXPLICITLY state that it is laser compatible has the potential to damage the device.
*Q: How do I fax?*
A: I, unfortunately, am unaware of how to fax, as my apartment is not configured to support it. Please refer to your user manual or Canon customer service.
*Q: How is the text on this machine?*
A: Text is crisp, dark, and sharp. Among the best I have seen.
*Q: How are the colors/accuracy on this machine?*
A: While you will not get photo printer quality on this device, this printer does have some of the best and most accurate colors of any laser printer I have used.
*Q: How does this compare to the MF635cdw?*
A: As far as I know, the 635 is the same device, just an international version.
*Q: How long does the toner last?*
A: I only need to replace the toner once every 1-2 years. It lasts very long, and we print a few reams per year of all kinds of documents.
*Q: What size paper can this printer print/work with?*
A: I believe up to A4.

Welp, that's sad. Photo paper is my favorite for pictures
There is Photo paper for Laser Printers available by HP. Surely these are OK?
@@juliannauy811 For printing on to photograph paper, you will need an inkjet printer. It can print in vibrant colors and borderless. You will not find a frame when printing on an inkjet printer, as opposed to a laser or an LED printer. An attempt to print on photograph paper in a laser printer will cause the surface of the paper to burn and crumple. Laser printers are excellent for printing documents and files with near-typesetting quality. They can accept office copy paper, laser printer paper; and color laser printer paper in color laser printers. I hope this comment will relieve your concerns, Julianna.
I have been a user of Canon printers since 2002. The Color ImageClass MF733Cdw is my second Canon printer. I hope that our printers will last for many years to come.
I can't thank you enough for posting this. My printer has been unusable for 2 months, hung up with the 'waiting for file name' error. This worked perfectly!
Thank you, Zachary, for taking the time and effort to post this video. You helped me discover where to load envelopes (was driving me crazy, couldn't figure out!) and, by accident, the very important caveat not to use inkjet printer paper in a laser printer (which I had no idea about).

I ordered MF734Cdw and waiting for it to arrive in a few days. Some comment below said Canon should hire you. Do not fall for that! I used to work For Canon USA as a laser copier technician and it was horrible! The pay was bad, and the requirement was that you drive your own car to customer locations to fix and clean imagerunner and imageclass canon printers. Switched jobs, career a long time ago and do not regret it. But Canon's printers are not so bad, so I ended up buying one. Good luck to you mate! Very good review! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed the video! You will not be disappointed - Canon makes excellent products! As of now, I do not intend to work for Canon, haha!
I can relate. I hated working for Canon but their products have always been fantastic. If you don't want to pay for an ImageClass the Maxify 5420 is damn good too and inks are dirt cheap on Amazon.
Dude, you did a great job sharing the info, thank you so much!
Thank you. This was very helpful, long but hit all the points I wanted to see.
Thanks. I was searching for an MFP with reasonable operative costs. This is found to be one. Thanks for a wonderful review.
This video demo was absolutely fantastic! Thank you Zach! Canon need to hire you mate! Eddie
Given all the kind words I've said about their products. I sure hope they do!!!
No doubt! Thanks for the video
Many thanks for the review. My frustration with Samsung SL-M2070W reached the point I decided to drop it and purchase something else. This video helped me to get a general idea and I have to say that it is a night and day difference. So easy to set up, use and the paper tray can handle a lot of papers at once. But boy, is it heavy :). Very happy about the purchase.
Glad I could help! Be sure to subscribe for more! Canon DOES make a great product, but yes, it is, indeed, heavy!
I just bought mine this weekend and set it up yesterday, got the remote printing from my iPad set up and have a lot more to learn about this promising printer. One thing I ran into was printing double sided - the back side was printed upside down. Did that happen to you? If it did, I wonder how you solved it, because I Googled this and even though more people have this problem, I found no solution yet.
The IP address randomly changes due to being DHCP, you need to set it to "STATIC"
Agreed. I initially set a static IP address in just my router for the printer, as that's all that is usually required for devices. Oddly, The printer kept being assigned different odd DHCP addresses every time it started up. This screwed up the google cloud print and kept the orange light incessantly blinking. After I assigned the printer the same static IP in its settings through the printer touchscreen as I had in the router, the light stopped blinking and the IP stayed static.
Why use DHCP? According to the documentation you can use WSD for dynamic discovery.
@@swerveshot It still needs an IP address.

I have a hard time to print my labels and envelops with Canon MF642Cdw; do you have any video to help? I used to use HP printers and do not have any problems to print anything, especially with single labels. I can just print one and next time come back use the old label sheet to print another one by one until finished. With this Canon printer I messed up a lot of my Avery label sheets because it doesn’t specify where to put the paper in, assumed just put in the same tray with all the printing papers but found out that the was a special slot to put just only 1 sheet in thereto print, but one more time didn’t have any instructions that suppose to have paper up or down, therefore easy to make mistake to print out the wrong side. On the top of that I just need to print one label, next time to print back another one I cannot figure how to print it correct in the second row on third column for instance. I do not have problem with other printers, just with Canon. Please help.
Thank you for your demo so much appreciated
I just purchased this unit for a small multimedia desktop publishing service of mine. Hopefully it fits the bill.
It pays for itself in no time!
So this Canon 634 printer has been replaced by the 644 and 743. I've been trying to decide to go with one of those Canons, or the HP M479 since they are all about the same price on sale
Definitely Canon. Better customer support and better quality/functionality all around!
@@ZacharyGalen Ok, pricing is the same between the Canon MF743cdw and HP M479fdw. Would like one that does best with text but also color photo output.

Would you recommend this for artists looking to make prints of their work? I use a lot of bold colors and am looking for a laser printer with high quality color prints. I bought a little Canon pixma for 50$ and was shocked that the quality of prints of photo paper was actually decent. Im now thinking about upgrading to this for more serious print making
I have this one and yeah, it's fantastic. Does it all.
Amazing device, isn't it? :)
It is. One thing I never figured out though....Do you know if it is possible to load a sheet of e.g. labels into the MP tray and have the printer automatically detect that and print the next page from that tray? Never been able to get that to work - always have to go three dialog boxes deep and tell it to use the MP tray, for labels. My HPs have always done the logical thing and I miss it.
@@jarrod-smith I don't believe that it's possible. I think you have to use the system dialogue each time unless you change your default settings only while you're printing labels. Sorry - wish I could be of more help!
Dude thank you so much for the tip on the Admin pin & password! Saved me the headache of calling Canon or Stapes!
Glad I could help! I'd be lying if I said it didn't give me a migraine - haha!
Great demonstration. I was hoping that you would hit on the scan to PDF, name and save documents. Upon shopping and checking reviews people were saying that with the wireless they couldn't make a PDF to the pc. One person said in a review that they had to get the USB cord for that function. Which is fine, I have one on the old printer. Do you happen to know? I run a business and need to endlessly scan PDF files and name them to upload to email and billing portals.
Hi! Can you please clarify what your question is, exactly?
Great video Zach... But...
I got to your video after seeing several other reviews where there was no detail on actual colour picture quality and was impressed that you took the trouble to re-copy and print a print out example but for one thing...
Once you put the original print and copied print side to side for comparison you simply couldn't stop waving them around into a blurr as you spoke waving your hands!!!
I was desperately trying to carefully scrutinize the two copies which was really seriously frustrating as these machines aren't cheap and a full set of toner cartidges can rush you a thousand bucks for the larger ones...
Trust me...this is one of the best printers you can get! Produces EXCELLENT copies!
Could you please do a video about how to change the paper settings? This printer is new for me and I can't figure out how to print on card stock. Thank you for making these videos.
Thanks a lot
I saved a ton of time by following your instructions.
One more thing my model(631cn) does not show the printer consumables option around how many prints one can get with a single cartilage thanks again!!

great review..can you plz tell me how about the durabilty of this printer?
It's held up GREAT! Very reliable!
It is a great printer...recommend it for sure
Agreed!

I just bought this sucker. Very loud. Set up in wireless mode I was getting all kinds of problems with the printer going offline. Switched to wired with static up and it seems to be working ok. Still loud and makes a grinding sound when printing. I’m amazed that this is the best they can come up with?
Also the touch screen SUCKS! It needs a digital alignment function so it can respond properly to where you touch the screen. Right now it is off kilter
Your unit might be defective. It's a laser printer, so it's a given that it will be a bit loud, but it's not obnoxiously loud (much quieter than others). I agree that the touch screen is not great. I find it useful to press firmly with your index finger while holding the screen steady with your opposite hand. If the problems persist, maybe contact Canon support?
Helped a lot!
Any chance you can show how to print envelopes? Nothing online that's helpful
Noted!
Thank you very much really ... I have two questions for you ... 1_ how many papers that can this printer will do it before you buy new tonner
2_ tell me the cheapest cdw canon printers
Thank you
Hi Abdel! In regards to toner, it depends on the capacity you get. I believe the standard toner is around 1,200 pages and the high-capacity around 2,300. I do not know the cheapest Canon cdw printers, but I can assume that they probably go for $300-350 at the bare minimum. Hope this helps!
It cost 170 on best buy now
My printer always asks me what paper i want to use any idea on how to turn it off ??
I just bought the 735Cx as it was on special offer, only slightly more expensive than this one but a bigger feeder and faster printing. I have two questions which probably apply to this printer as well.
1. Is there anyway to configure the printer for borderless photo printing?
2. Using the manual multi feeder tray, you can set the photo paper type (eg, 180g One sided photo paper), in the Printing Preferences in Windows 10 but this data does not seem to be sent to the printer. Instead, when it starts printing, you get a beep and it prompts you to define the paper type again in the touch pad. Within the Printer UI which you can view in a browser, you can switch off the Paper Type prompt and configure the Manual Feed tray for a particular paper type but do we have to do this? Why does it ignore what you have configured in the Windows 10 Printing Preferences window?
1. No, laser printers cannot execute borderless printing, unfortunately.
2. I believe that is the default functioning of the printer, as the printer has to handle different mediums in different manners. This avoids any disastrous occurrences. Unfortunately, I'm a Mac user, so I can't say 100%
Thank you for the swift reply. So borderless printing is a generic problem for Laser printing? Interesting. I'll have to research this further. Your answer to my second question makes sense although I cannot see any reason why the software cannot accept the Page type configuration from the software and then as soon as that job is finished, return the its default settings? Anyway, that's a question for Canon driver software engineer.
Despite these two nags, it's still an amazing printer, even in a home environment, despite its size. Highly recommended.
@@RebMordechaiReviews It's not a "problem," per se, but rather a consequence of their mechanisms. The way they work doesn't allow them to print borderless. And yeah, I would contact either Canon or Windows for help on that one!
@@ZacharyGalen Thanks. I managed to reformat the graphics file with a 1/2 cm frame on the page layout so that the full image is processed inside the frame.

Unfortunately, my apartment is not equipped for sending faxes, so I am unable to do so. You can always scan and use an online service, such as eFax :)
I think I am goona buy the same 635
It is 635 but I think its almost same...
May I ask how many pages are included in the toner which is included with he printer....? Thanks
Thanks for posting the video, it’s very informative and very helpful. Have you had any problems with your printer not consistently working (printing and/or scanning) using the Wi-Fi connection? I recently purchased a printer in the same imageCLASS series. It’s model number MF642CdW. The Wi-Fi connection worked flawlessly the first day, but has been sporadic ever since.
Check to see if it needs a firmware update -- that might help! :)
Thanks for the thorough review man! Really appreciate it.
What is the WiFi range? I'd need it to work across about a 15-20' line-of-sight distance, in an open room with NO interfering infrastructure.t
How would you rank this up against the Brother MFC9130CW Wireless All-In-One Printer? (btw, Canon is always my preference for perfection in office production, but if this Brother IS better, I'll get it).
Thanks again!
Of course! In regards to WiFi range, this printer can definitely reach at LEAST 30-40 feet. It's probably around the same as a cell phone. Hope this helps! :)
Do I need to change settings to print double sided? It’s not doing it when I select it to print.
Thanks for your great review. I noticed a problem. When I am using the flatbed scanner to color copy a previously folded A4 paper (i.e. in case of letters out of an envelope), I see bluish shadows where the fold edges were. (Especially, when the original paper included some blue logos.) Moreover, every now and then I see (at a few spots of a copied page) pieces of ghost text shining through from the backside of the original page in case the original had been printed on both sides. What can I do?
This makes sense. Regarding the folding, that will cast shadows from the scanner. To eliminate the bleeding, either print on thicker paper or go into the system interface and adjust your contrast settings. I believe there is also an anti-bleed setting, if I am not mistaken.
Nice review, consider getting a mic to avoid the echoing.

My printer is very loud. Is that normal? Printout looks fine, it just sounds like there're thousands of moving parts in there...
If it sounds louder/different from the video, I would reach out to Canon!
Great review.
I’m wondering how would you rate the Canon against the HP Laser M277dw you reviewed about two years ago?
I have bought the HP, and as great as it is for the price, it does struggle to print on heavier paper, and most would come out skewed, to a certain degree that HP state is within their acceptable measures. To me, it’s not at all acceptable. Also, the color representation is far from accurate on the HP.
For that reason, I got very curious when I found this printer and I would love to hear your thoughts/experiences regarding these issues in particular and the performance overall.
Thank you very much!
Hi Ofeenee! I find this printer far superior to the HP. Color accuracy/alignment is far more accurate, making outputs far more professional-looking. However, I cannot attest to heavyweight paper, as I only use plain paper. However, my assumption is, since it is in the same class as HP, that it would handle various media types similarly. Hope this helps! (This is a great machine and you will not be disappointed if you invest!)

can we use glossy paper for picture in this printer ?
Cool review. So will the HP toners work with this Canon because HP toners are way cheaper. Thanks!
THAT I cannot guarantee, but I would advise against it - I would always use the genuine toners that match the printer's brand. However, the specific corresponding HP Toner cartridges (201A) tend to be more expensive than these Canon cartridges and do not last as long either. Hope this helps!
Zachary Galen I appreciate the quick reply, thanks! Again, great video.
Thanks! Be sure to subscribe, like, and share for more!!
You can use the HP 201A toner cartridges in the MF634CDW, you do get a warning from the 634, stating the quality can't be guaranteed, but you can still print, I have tried some left over cartridges from my HP 277 laserjet.

2nd: I saw from comments that you can't print 4x6 pictures on here? Ugh! I didn't realize it. Just making sure, because I use that feature a lot
thank you! you do GREAT videos, helped me alot!
Hi Liz! I believe you can email to print, but I am not sure on the specifics of it. However, you this printer IS Google Cloud Print compatible. Cloud Print should allow you to print from anywhere you have internet access. In regards to the 4x6 photos, this printer can print on anything that is SPECIFICALLY laser-compatible. Do NOT (I repeat DO NOT) put standard photo paper in this machine - the glossy coating can melt and damage the printer. I am not sure whether or not there are any paper types specifically that fit your needs, but just ensure that whatever you purchase is laser compatible. Hope this helps!
Hey Liz I'm deciding between the 634 and the 733. How come you chose the 733 and is it worth the extra $$$ compared to the 634? Appreciate your thoughts. @Zachary good video.
@@freakprismgames I'd go for the 634. It's smaller and more affordable. The 733 is more meant for larger businesses with a heavy amount of printing and is quite clunky. Also, the 634 has duplex scanning/copying, whereas the 733 (I believe) does not.
@@ZacharyGalen Thanks! I agree I will go with the 634. Btw the 733 has duplex scanning/copying as well as this NFC print option. But to be honest I won't ever use the NFC option.
@@ZacharyGalen 733Cdw supports Duplex scan/copy/printing. No manual tasks to accomplish that are needed. I just bought one and it does it all.

how i can give print command from my Mobile?
Hlo Zachary, thanks for review. Awesome. maybe you can help. I have change my system ID and Pin. now i forgot what it is and want to take back to factory settings. Do you know how?
Unfortunately, I do not, as I think you might need the pin in order to reset to factory defaults. If I were you, though, I'd check under the "menu" panel. Sorry - I wish I could be of more help!
How do you load the paper????
Hi. I just got the MF644CDW. What do I have to do to get it to email? When I try to email something it says that email settings are not configured in the Remote UI. Can you please help me with that?
Are you trying to scan something to email from the printer?
What about printing envelopes and labels?
You can print anything AS LONG AS the paper/media specifically states that it is laser compatible. So, yes, envelopes (almost always) and labels (only sometimes) are printable. Configure the settings on your computer/printer or whatever source you are printing from accordingly. Hope this helps!!!
Thanks, but I meant: how about a demonstration of printing labels and envelopes?
Oh, my bad! I'll definitely do it if I get around to it/many people want me to. I just don't have what I need in order to do that, and I haven't done it before
Did you ever get around to a printing envelopes tutorial? I've read the Getting Started guide over and over and can't wrap my head around it :( @@ZacharyGalen
@@Mispressoo Unfortunately, I have not. My apologies!
please can you tell me about its borderless option where is it ?
This printer does not offer borderless printing as an option - sorry! :(
