Not likely, not a common problem on G4's. Maybe a failed fuel-pump, but I can't find any info. It could be unknown. The G4 was not known to be as problematic as earlier G series, notably the G2, which was notoriously deadly due to failures...especially regarding fires breaking out in the engine, engulfing the cockpit.

One of the first things that the investigators did at the crash sight was to unhook the fuel lines at the injection pump and they were empty. That was in the report. As a result, they have changed the flight procedures to avoid inverted flight maneuvers now.
According to the official accident report the plane was not equipped with a fuel supply system that allowed for inverted flight. During inverted flight the fuel pick-up point in the tank fell dry and the connecting hoses started to draw air.Don't know if the Spaniards didn't install a full aerobatics capable fuel supply sitem in their buchons.

+Flight Instructor It does seem to be an accident-prone airframe. Damaged on take-off during film work for "Patton" in 1969. Sold to the US and repaired, and crashed again on a test flight in 1986. Repaired as a static Bf-109, then returned to Europe in 1994 for rebuild into "Red 7." Another major accident in 2005 when it tipped on a crosswind landing, ripping out the engine. Sold to EADS in Germany and rebuilt. Another accident in 2008 with a belly landing from landing gear problems. Repaired and another accident in 2013 with a belly landing after fuel-starvation stalled the engine. Repaired again and just suffered another accident with a ground loop in 2016.
Look at those winds. WTH? Worse is that he could not even use them to his advantage and instead they were added to his ground speed, pushing his tail down making for a very unfavorable off field no engine landing. Luck and skill = fly another day.

Poor Messerschmitt. That exact plane has crashed so many times.
I'm glad both the pilot and aircraft are okay and flying again.
Fortunately, this was the last crash of this airframe
Thank you for posting to see the details. Great Job of pilot Klaus Plasa!!!
I guess they didn't notice what appears to be some sort of fluid spattered over the portside radiator flap and the top of the gear fairing.

No loss of oil pressure in an upside down db 605.
If I remember, it has 3 oil pumps.
