The company I used to fly for had a museum and a BF-109 was part of the displays. The pilot told us that it is almost impossible to land that airplane safely on a hard surface runway, that a turf runway was mandatory. and even then it was pretty tricky. Have no idea of the truth of that but thought I would mention it.
I'm so curious how aircraft turn in land? I'm assuming it's because the back wheel since air in the vertical rudder are lack of air to do so. Please correct me
Tail wheel will swivel when in the unlocked position, then differential braking is used to steer, as the rudder on the bf 109 is small and has no authority at taxi speeds.
+Lewis Beedle "Red 7" took a spin into the weeds about a year-and-a-half ago, so I'm assuming that it is still in the shop to sort things out. "FM+BB" has been down for deep maintenance for a while. "Black 2" was repaired and repainted as "Yellow 3" after gear collapse many years ago. It has flown again but I have not seen many pictures/video of it in the air. I'm surprised that the Museum has not obtained an Emil, but perhaps this will happen eventually.
Wow! That has to be the last one... an upside down Merlin might be a difficult fit :-) In the clip I caught a glimpse of the P-51 "Big Beautiful Doll" that unfortunately crashed, I've seen it perform on Duxford years before.
Yes, that's true, sadly. Here I've a video of the P-51D BBD at the same airshow (ILA 2008) flying two years later: ruclips.net/video/XCM5TaD-L-4/видео.html
+momkumkat Worldwide, there are now nine Bf-109s that are airworthy with original DB engines. Some are down for repairs or service, so not all fly at once. There are roughly another dozen in very slow rebuild to fly some day.
The ugliest landing gear ever fitted on a areoplane, also reportedly such a bad idea it killed a large amount of the planes themselves. Could someone explain why they kept it this way throughout the production ?
+ciko 2283 A very rare "Condor Legion" E-1 is under restoration to fly for an owner in the UK. It was found in a dump in Spain about 30 years ago. They are about halfway done with the rebuild so far. i7.photobucket.com/albums/y282/Bomber_12th/18319258_1389821971063821_8150332332967429907_o_zps5eep4gov.jpg
Ridiculous! This is not even a "near" crash landing. For a tail dragger this is a very good landing. I flown over 50 types of aircrafts and I know what I am talking about.
109 tail is too small so looses authority if speed is too low. Pilot erred on the side of discretion and came in slightly fast. Over 30,000 109s made with 12,000 destroyed in take off or landing accidents.
Yes this is true. As we know the easy way to tell is the exhaust manifolds. The Daimler Benz DB 605 is an inverted V engine so the exhaust manifolds are on the bottom whereas the Rolls Royce is a regular upright engine where the exhaust manifolds will be on top. A good friend of mine Rick brought that to my attention a few years back.

What a beast of a aeroplane nothing sounds like a db engine
Oh, that landing was very nice indeed, nothing in the least bit wrong with it. Very very good pilot.

it is in fact realy tricky to land one of these
Salute to ground crew for getting old bird in the air. Nice vid
Thanks for watching! :)
The Me 109 and the Spitfire had the same problem very narrow landing gear which was tricky to land at times. Good to see a 109 airworthy
WOW Nice Landing. What did I miss.
Excellent landing
these are the things i would collect if i was super rich
if just I was rich....I would have one....
I would like to visit such events and see these planes live)))
Love these fighter planes.....so cool!
Landung absolut okay !
Looked like a clean landing to me but then “every successful landing is a good landing” correct?
A good landing is one you can walk away from, a great landing is when you can use the plane again :)
Didn't some old retired raf guy crash one that took years to restore it was rebuilt but now sits in a museum and not allowed to fly
Cross-wind landing that's why he bounced a bit, you use less flap on approach that is why he came in faster than usual, to maintain control.
at least this guy knew how to land one ,
❤️❤️❤️

Fantastiese vliegtuig
Out if the three 109's the Messerschmitt museum owns. Is it only the G4 that flies now or do the other two still fly?

That bird sounds like it's Merlin powered.
No. It has a original Daimer Benz DB 605 engine.;-)

Spitfire, Mustang & BF109 were all v-12 engines
so sound similar

For such a thing of beauty it had a very bandy undercarriage. I wonder what feeling the pilots (today) got from flying one.
Spitfire wasn't much different
Hammer Geil !!!!
Das schönste kriegsflugzeug der welt
Jazu_ 22821 kann man drüber streiten, aber insgesamt ein stimmiges aussehen.

Сильно!
are there any E-1's still alive?

There is a Bf109E in Canada, I believe it belongs to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum. Unsure if 109E-1 or later E variant though.
Ist das wirklich ein Bf 109 G6-Original ?, dachte ich, es sei ein spanischer Buchón mit einem Deimler-Benz-Motor.
2:30 relax, its normal?
Gute Zeit für alle!Ich habe es gesehen!Das Auto ist gut, aber beim Einsteigen gibt es Zweifel an der Stabilität!

gas pedal is on the right!
That plane killed many pilots due to the landing gear.
yeah
What happened?
when landing the 109 was a crash waiting to happen ...bad design on landing gear only real flaw in the aircraft
the awesomeness ruined by those speaking in background
Meiner Meinung nach (ich kann mich irren) ist das Chassis zu schmal! Das Auto redet!...

False
Stainton - Don't make me laugh with that old Allied fairy tale !
Nonsense

Spanish "Buchon" with German engine.
