contrary to what the video claimed, the gunsight was not removable in fg.likght and switching it over to the side was normal landing procedure, not only during an emergency.
I understand that the hinge on the canopy was rather fragile and pilots were warned not to let it flop open, but to gently lower it into the open position to prevent springing the hinge. It was rather heavy and could easily slip from the pilot's grasp when doing so. I also understand that the 109 was developed from an aircraft with fixed landing gear, which is why the retractable gear mechanism and pivot had to be built into the fuselage rather than the thinner wings. That is why the gear was narrow and splayed outward to try to get it as wide as possible. Superb video, as always!
Bf109 was deve lope from the Bf108, light and fast four seater transport that won world records and had the same landing gear layout. The ideia was to transfer impacts on landing directly to the aircraft center of gravity and thus lessening loading on the wings. Both planes finished with narrow, tricky and fragile gears, that as correctly pointed in the video, turned into a weakness of the design. But this design choice has nothing to do with fixed gear. In the plus side, this type of mounting made easier to change wings without special equipment, and permitted fierce braking while maneuvering the plane on the ground without the plane nosing over, an advantage in certain conditions, particularly in the Eastern front.
Best breakdown of Me109 I have ever seen. Knew basics of this plane, but your video clarifies systems, structure, cockpit, armament, nuances of operation, etc. Have to watch remainder of catalog. The work that you put into these videos is very impressive. Modelers and Historians alike are rejoicing over these! Keep 'em coming!
agreed! while maybe not as maneuverable as spitfire or zeroes, it pack punch of 20mm guns and also the true power is on it's engine, be able to do negative g maneuver is hell a lot advantages against it's adversaries.
@armchairgeneralissimo that's what I was gonna say too. It was used for the entire war and was never really catastrophically outclassed by anything the allies had. People jerk off to the Tiger and Panthers but they broke constantly. The 109 was the true Wunderwaffe.
It should be noted that Bf 109G-6 pilots often complained about the poor field of vision with the framed canopy. That was the reason why post G-6, the Bf 109G-10 and newer models got the new _Erla Haube_ canopy, which had a vastly superior field of vision. (NOTE: the _Erla Haube_ canopy was often called "Galland Hood" by post-World War II British aviation writers.) However, the biggest weakness of the Bf 109G-6 was the fact its top speed was only 386 mph with the DB 605A engine. That lower top speed made it particularly vulnerable the P-51B/C/D/K models, the P-47D, and the Spitfire Mk. VIII and later models. P-51 pilots took full advantage of the Bf 109G-6's lower top speed limitation, and as such by the summer of 1944 had pretty much wiped out the most experienced fighter pilots in the _Luftwaffe_ .
Thanks, I'd been reading about the 109 since the 1970's, and I never heard about the Erla Haube Canopy. The 109's problem was it was obsolescent and the luftwaffe should have replaced it by 1942 at the latest, but they couldn't. And not even their other fighter, Fw-190, could do what the 109 could do: attack the enemy Jabos at altitudes over 25,000 feet. But besides being outdated, the 109 had other huge problems. Excessively short range in action was one, and the narrow landing gear was another. The narrow landing gear caused problems for pilots to the very end. With the massive engine torque in a light and small airframe, the109 had a tendency to wing over and crash on landing and take-off. The Germans lost more Bf-109's to accidents, than to enemy action.
@@Tiberius_I I think had the _Luftwaffe_ been a bit smarter, they should have prioritized developing the Junkers Jumo 213 engine specifically for an higher-performing version of the Fw 190 *MUCH* earlier. They should have gotten the Fw 190D series into service at least one year earlier, and the much higher top speed and altitude performance of the Fw 190D-9, had it been available one year earlier, could have made it far more difficult for the Allies to gain air superiority over Germany.
@@Sacto1654 All that's true, no doubt! The men who led the luftwaffe were in general, highly competent if not brilliant leaders, fliers and engineers (with the notable exception of Herman Goerring himself). Men like Field Marshall Erhard Milch, armaments minister Albert Speer, and the remarkable pre-war visionary Gen. Walther Weaver, gave their all to running the luftwaffe, but in the end none of it was enough - too many external and internal factors proved impossible for them to overcome. Shortages of aircraft and fuel, a cumbersome internal bureaucracy, Hitler's constant meddling, and eventually allied strategic bombing, proved to be a fatal stew that by 1945, had all but wiped out the luftwaffe's combat power.

The gear on 109s was connected to the fuselage so it's wings could be removed and it could still be on its wheels, which is the only relativley unknown fact I know about the 109
I have been waiting for someone to do an in-depth look on the bf 109! Since you modeled everything so detailed, I have a question. Do you think the G series air frame could have a wing mounted mg131, like how the E series had the MGFF?
Just a fun tidbit I find interesting: the world's ace of aces, Erich Hartmann with 352 kills over the course of 1,425 sorties, made the majority of them in Bf 109's. He survived crashes sixteen times, giving him a kill-death ratio of 22;1.
I like the accent or the IA translator it is quite natural, and seems as if an english speaker was speaking spanish. This solves the problem of having to chose among the different spanish language dialects. The only problem is that it sometimes uses the "preterito perfecto simple" tense when the correct form would be the "preterito imperfecto" tense.
Awesome video! 😊I liked it special because this is my favourite WW2 fighter. Our hungarian pilots mostly flew by Bf-109Gs. What's more in a hungarian factory (Magyar Waggon és Gépgyár and Kőbánya) built more than 400 pieces (some of them used by the Luftwaffe).
So the Russian developers for both DCS and IL2 don’t believe in freedom of speech or historical accuracy. So the German planes don’t come with a swastika by default. It requires a third party mod/skin to get that historical marking for maximum immersion. But it’s not compatible with online multiplayer because that is not the default for the game

The plane was slick and caused the italians to lose the title.
I think this kind of landing gear was used to make the plane more lightweight and to allow taking off the wings while being on the ground.

EL MEJOR CANAL, DIOSSS EL NIVEL DE DETALLES ES INIGUALABLE!❤
Hi David thank you a lot for post videos they really help and also millions of thanks for share these information please continue and that would grateful if you made a video about Stuka .
Amazing videos on some of my favourite aircraft! Loved the videos of the Horten 229 and ME 262. I hope a video on the ME163 is coming as the details behind that thing are insane. Thank you 🙏🏼
Ripper video I really enjoyed the depth of detail and metric measurements
love your videos, and this new channel
I’m extremely excited for German and Russian tanks, I have a feeling they are coming soon. Thanks again for such high quality content, the background music, the editing, and the Morgan freeman tier narration. Sheer excellence.
Atomic scale animation creation. Oh I just closed my lab and watching this lovely documentary... ❤
Excelent work Sir, thank you for sharing and greetings from Germany... 👌👌
Excellente vidéo Merci, on en veut encore !! C'est génialement fait ! We would like more planes, it's fantasticaly made. Thank you and keep working on.
Another fantastic video! Id love to see something like the inside of a Char B1 Bis tank, itd be pretty awesome to see a 3d render of one of those beasts.
That was a great insight into the details of this sinister but effective adversary-
This channel is a digital meoseum on its own. Amazing work.
I love you too fellow Hungarian
Just wow
This channel will surely reach million subscribers in notime
please do video on rifles, pistol too
I haven't watched it yet but I already think it's a great video, like all the other videos on the channel
Great video!!
It amazes me today how simple aircraft were back then. Keep it simple!
Can't wait to see more videos from this channel...superb.
Magnífico canal. gracias por su excelente trabajo.
Thanx a lot David
Outstanding video and presentation.
Really big THX for the great animations and vids
Não pare com seus vídeos,to falando aqui do Brasil
Amazing 😍, wish for Inside US M1 Abrams (M1A1 model from 1990-91 Gulf War) main battle tank in the future 🥺
The DCS and IL-2 CLoD/GB years taught me a lot about the Bf109 procedures
So the Russian developers for both DCS and IL2 don’t believe in freedom of speech or historical accuracy.
So the German planes don’t come with a swastika by default. It requires a third party mod/skin to get that historical marking for maximum immersion. But it’s not compatible with online multiplayer because that is not the default for the game
This is Excellent video!!
Subscribed!!
The part that started at 9:53 and ended at 10:45 looked more realistic than Masters of the Air's did.
Excellent presentation of material! Thank you!
Please do the B-29 Superfortress next.
This channel would actually be able to do that aircraft justice within a sub-30 minute timespan.
Very calming during projects 😌😇
Wonderful video!!!
Amazing models and animations!
Gracias por éstos videos!
Love these videos and Conflicts of Nations
The 3d work is really nice.
Really good work man.
