@@oliabid-price4517 George Lucas in a number of interviews referenced 633 squadron, Battle of Britain, Hells Angels and Dam Busters as inspirations for his space battle sequences in Star Wars 4 A New Hope, which was ironically his first movie!
Shotgun is absolutely a fan favorite. He's probably your best OpFor. The man flies really well and never fails to impress. And his disrespect is just.. *chef's kiss
Yeah, some of those pilots, like the 83yr old check-ride pilot that gave me my ticket, and flew in the Battle of Britain, were incredible natural pilots. Even at 83 he was far and away the best pilot I have ever flown with. Mad skills. It was a great thing to have him as my check-ride pilot because it humbled me at a time I was starting to think I was pretty good myself. Perspective can save your life as a pilot and inspire you to become a really GREAT pilot.
I think that might actually have value in a modern context. I think the metal and wires in a RR track could mask a low flying attack aircraft from look-down, shoot-down radar. Can anyone confirm this?
Shotgun already had my respect but that 1st round......man! That had to have made it in the top 3 dogfights of this channel in the 3+ years I've been watching. Well done to both of you. Please more WWII fights. Let's go!
that was genuinely one of the most entertaining fights I've ever seen on this channel. shotgun is a fantastic adversary, at 13:27 you guys look like dolphins in the air
I really like how much more finesse it takes to get guns on target at these lower speeds, when the defensive pilot has time to see an angle coming and dodge out of the way. You can see a little bit of the yoke and rudder being less than perfectly intuitive when it comes to getting nose on target, and stall-fighting is a thing in a way it isn't in jets. I'd definitely watch more prop content
8:29 I never understood exactly what my grandfather meant when he was describing his fight's against the 109's... That illustration makes me wish he was still here so I could show him this.
Shotgun going full throttle 20 feet off the ground in a thick forest was one of the most insane things I've ever seen. Bro deserved to win just for that maneuver
Oh, man, this is an awesome vid!! The switching perspectives, the old warbirds, no missiles, no high-tech radars and stuff, pure pilot talent. Thank you!
Shotgun's bag of tricks is DEEP. If anyone can be your foil in all of your video I have watched, it's definitely him. Your precision versus his unpredictability make for some very good fights. Shotgun is definitely unconventional, and a perfect example of not giving up because it's not over until it's truly over.
5:07 This is INSANE! One of the greatest dogfights on your channel ever. Mad props to Shotgun and that crazy jinking in that P-51D, he seriously knows how to turn the tables on a losing fight.
@@GrowlingSidewinderthanks for the WW2 content man! It's great. You've got a long history of teaching us jet-era tactics and terms, would you consider the same for the props? For example, the move you tried twice is called a hammerhead, or you could teach about aircraft strengths such as climbing turns in the 109 or dive escapes in a P-40 or weaknesses like exploiting high speed aileron compression so a 190 can outmaneuver a Spitfire. You could do so much!
That was an incredible fight, I thought for sure it was over when Shotgun kept flying straight and low (the exact kinda thing I would have done haha, trench run style!), but somehow he just kept slipping away and pulled it out of the bag! Amazing fight!
In his autobiography part 2 "Going Solo" the writer Roald Dahl tells the story of him flying an RAF plane over Greece in WW2. He pulled off a similar escape flying a few meters above the Greek countryside. Cool to see it here!
Ya know, it's funny some time ago, the Discovery Channel had 2 P51 pilots and 2 FW190 pilots being interviewed simultaneously. Both P-51 pilots were absolutely astonished as to how well the German pilots were doing with the visibility and poor layout of the cockpit was in their fighter aircraft was. Then the German pilots got into P 51's and were stated as saying that if they were flying that aircraft, we would all be speaking German now!!!
I watch all your videos. The commentary, especially for those of us of DCS and flying ignorance, is excellent and informative. Your knowledge of platforms and weaponry is amazing. I enjoy the modern era fights but this video is tops. Great job by you both.
I wasn't even that interested in seeing this fight until I saw the fight and realised this is probably the best one I've seen on this channel! You guys are very skilled
I found this channel when it had only 500 subscribers. I have been watching this channel for a very long time now and I must say this content has gotten me through tough times. Mellow videos that get your mind of things. I’ll always appreciate this channel’s content, and GS if you somehow see this comment, please fly the F35. It’s one thing I’ve always wanted to see on this channel
thank you, I appreciate your support, the channel has certainly come a long way since then. I will gladly do some F-35 content, just waiting for a mature version of the mod to show up before I show case it.
That was bloody awesome, he is a legend of a pilot. Insane flying through the power lines and road or railway. Awesome video mate. Just have to say they are both beautiful looking fighters. What weapons for the age of them.
I love props. Shotgun did a good job skimming the line between stalling and borderline maneurverability. Look at that rudder turn before your first death

I see it took a little time for the video, but thank you again . Hope you are doing well
Id like to see some more ww2 fights. This video was amazing
Sidenote- how are you so good at flying the tomcat and keeping it from rolling over. Especially in high AOA situations like dogfights.
Spitfire XIV, perfect example of an energy/turning fighter. 447 mph, 5,000 fpm climb, and turns like, well a Spitfire
@@Kadin208 Rudder, if you can use the rudder correctly she doesn't roll so much.
Shotgun practicing his Death Star trench run skills.
I was thinking more Dam busters myself - however that is where George Lucas got the idea for Star Wars came from!😉👍
Actually, it was 633 Squadron that inspired the Star Wars trench scene.

who tf is Shotgun?
Mad props to Shotgun. That first fight was insane.
Absolutely, phenomenal dogfight to watch!
that was craaaazzzyyy good!
Also this cinematic szenes were top!
Greased pig.
ABSOLUTE CINEMA
Going through that railroad cut - that was some ballsy flying
I have to say, that first flight is one of the few times I've seen GS get SOLIDLY beaten.
More Shotgun, please, and more WWII as well.
More WWII dogfights and definitely more Shotgun! He's an incredibly talented pilot 😎

Shotgun & Toxic & Anvil!
@@jurestormchaser5382 all of them are good, but I think Shotgun is in a class of its own.
My late grandfather would say that Shotgun was "Flying like a bat out of Hell with an Angel on its tail on a Sunday afternoon."
I can tell your grandfather and mine would have gotten along very well!
That is a classic

You know Freebird was absolutely blaring in shotguns head that whole time.
Now I'm listening to the solo while watching this 🔥
Shotgun doing some pilot sh*t
“Cmon Mav! Do some of that pilot shit!”
This was fun. The low flying from Shotgun while glancing back... daring. Shotgun's engine was redlining everything. Go Merlin ❤
The camera angles of the first fight were so cinematic. Amazing job ❤

4:41 Shotgun is the alumni from Mavericks school of radar evasion .
shotgun really said "we are so back" and came back all over the place. Truly the dogfight of all time
That railroad scene from the ground with him passing you chasing with rounds incoming was insane! Great flying guys! Love the WW2 stuff!
I feel like someone in hollywood could see that and think of creating a movie just to have that scene in it.
The howl of the engine and the roar of the propellers is just unmatched. Love these WW2 dogfights! Would love to see the Hawker Hurricane!!

The K4 is an absolute beast in the vertical. I'd love to see a similar fight in a Dora, where the Dora could leverage it's high roll rate.
Damn flying so close to poles and trees, sill looking back. Mad respect
Darn well about time you got back to the pistons. I hope to see many more of these WWII videos... :)

Don't usually go for the WW2 stuff, but glad I gave this one a shot b/c it's very entertaining to see 2 skilled pilots handle their planes like that.
