Great to see such a thorough pre-flight. I'm sure the ground crew are consummate professionals, but as PIC the ultimate responsibility... The technology that was present in aircraft of the 1930s and 1940s never ceases to amaze me to this day. Automotive technology by comparison seemed so last century.
I'll bet the preflights were that thorough for all the guys that came home - the English Channel doesn't look like a large stretch of water until you encounter a problem halfway across it (I know that would have been Bf109Es, but the point still stands).

Such a coincidence, I was just reading Robert Grinsell's book, that my Dad picked up at a garage sale the other day. Over 30,000 of these planes were produced. I had a fairly good sized diecast toy of one when I was a kid. Loved that plane!
amazing how it changed to a two seater during the landing and then back to a one seater on the roll out :D. Anyway good to see another one up in the air. :)
Quite the collection, from the two ME 109's, the FW 190 and the two seater Buchon, simply amazing that any of these aircraft even exist let alone are in such great flying shape, congratulations.
The most beautiful airplane ever! German vehicles from the war are always the stars of every exhibition. Whether that of the Tiger, the FW190, the ME 109, . . . . . . . Everyone wants to see them.
Why?The British and the American War Birds are equally beautiful. It's simply the dark Nazi-Mystic-Shit that makes thoseGerman War-Machines for some people so interesting. And don't forget what they were made for: to make war-to fight for a regime that built gas chambers too!!!
Nice to see someone have the shutter speed on their video camera set correctly to get the nice prop blur. Also, rest of your video work was beautiful, too.

So good to see and hear the DB engine in a Bf-109. The ''landing'' however if not mistaken was the now Merlin powered two- seater, D-FMGZ. if i am correct it was powered by a DB engine before the Merlin.
The first 10 seconds is like something I thought I would never experience. Just like that 190 they pulled out of the woods & got it flying again. Two of 3 main fears of allied airmen in WW2. First being "flak." Nice reference source also.
An amazing aircraft. The sound of these planes surely instilled fear from anyone that heard them. My grandfather said it was one of the most recognizable sounds while he was in the war.
The bf 109 is a beautiful aircraft and an iconic piece of German war machine during world war 2 it great to see one in such amazing condition and all the young German pilots that few them , i remember as a child building model kits of this plane and all aircraft of world war 2 , this plane looks just as menacing and frightening as it would have been back in the war 😮
That Daimler DB 605 engine sounds beautiful, but it does still sound different than the Merlin, I believe I would be able to tell without seeing the aircraft whether it was Friend or Foe. Thanks for the wonderful demo flight.
Beauty is something very subjective ... Anyway nice restoration for an efficient fighter despite a sinister reputation. The "truncated" svastika on the tail is questionable, to say the least, especially for a plane registered in Germany. Just my opinion.
@@drstrangelove4998 Yes probably: it's indeed illegal except for the purposes of historical representation. It's the grey area ... In my country it's the same: forbidden except for artistic (historical films, etc.) or religious (Hindu Gods bearing the swastika) purposes. In my view it's a problem since this symbol is not only referring to the Nazi regime as such but also to the Holocaust. On another hand I know that, at least for history representation, it's debatable. Not simple
We should never forget these machines were designed for air superiority and ultimately to kill but they are incredidly fascinating machines, i've been building scale models of these things for 50 years, Spits, Mustangs, 109's, Typhoons, Fw190's, etc. The fascination and admiration and respect for these machines and the men who flew them is still as strong as ever, great video 😁
It's got to be a nightmare getting the pieces pulled together for the engine,I don't know alot about airplane restoration but I do know those Daimler engines are extremely hard to come by...I would like to see some of the Wizardry that goes into repairing parts that are just not available.. so some creative machine shop work and a clever machinist would be worth his weight in Gold
Thanks to computer-assisted manufacturing they can now easily produce lost components. In the 1940s they just cranked engine parts out as fast as possible and used whatever metal was available Longevity wasn't an issue because the aircraft would last less than a month in Frontline service
@@jamesricker3997 I was wondering how much could now be made that way, Quite a few years ago I read some articles about a 109 and a Mitsubishi Zero being restored and the restoration folks were scouring the pacific islands and Europe for any parts they could find so an original engine could be rebuilt and fitted to the airframes...they even fished discovered crash sites for usable or repairable crankshafts, blocks, Cylinders and sleeves..I was just amazed they were able to get the planes running
@@jamesricker3997 About a year ago i was reading some translations of daily reports from different Jagde-schwader flight groups and the attitrition of available flightworthy aircraft on a daily basis was pretty dismal . A question was asked as to how many hours before a rebuild was needed and i was astonished @ how low the hours were but I cannot remember ...seems like it was sub 200..or perhaps even less. As to armor it was said that Axis and Allied both required tending to practically daily. Guess we shouldnt be surprised it is after all a very hostile environment and equipment is pushed to the limit.
I have been told by an old WW2 aircraft mechanic ( my late father) that the original BF 109 engine crankshaft was so well perfectly hand machined by German machinists with a method still secret today. They don't know how they did it.
The crankshaft also had a cannon barrel running through it which made it all the more difficult to machine. There's nobody making them anymore so every time a warbird crankshaft gets bent, it renders the 109 unrestorable. 🤠
@@jamesburns2232 No it doesn't. The motorkanone was laid in the base of the vee between the cylinders, and through the reduction gear on the front of the engine.

Same! Was it it an old Revel? Something about the box art grabbed me as a kid. WW2 German kit always seemed to have the most aesthetic appeal.
The deeper tone of those huge cylinders is apparent. Very pleasing to the ear. Well done team restoration.
i love it
Wonderful to see an original in the air again, with the right engine.

@@azorean88 are you sure the one in the video is a former Buchon? The video poster said in a different comment it was a '44 original
They always say this to boost the value of the aircraft. The ONLY original Bf 109 to fly since the mid 1950s was the RAFMs Bf 109 G-6/Trop Black 6 ALL the others are converted Buchons or replicas based on very minimal, if any, original airframe parts. But that said the aircraft in the video are superb replications of the original shape and having original DB 605’s the sound compliments the shape and form
@@bf9142ftw after researching again for the same plane, they say its a original Bf109, crashed in Austria on may 1944 and was built in early 1944. Im sorry for my mistake and thank you for the wake up call.

Beautiful aircraft! A work of art!
Gee, that DB 605 engine! *chef's kiss* - magnificent!
Fantastic . So many years after coming off the drawing board , it's ageless . It looks and sounds , I imagine the same as it did straight off production line .

Great to see such a thorough pre-flight. I'm sure the ground crew
are consummate professionals, but as PIC the ultimate responsibility...
I like the way he gave the wing tips and flaps a good wiggle, checked the
leading edge slats and looked into the pitot tube - wasps dont need A/S indicators,
but we do, and a nest in the tube will make for a challenging day...
Bet this pilot is as meticulous with every airframe, be it a C-152 or a BF 109 !
Beautiful aircraft, sounds great, it almost "whistles" as it goes by....love the sound of the engine cranking up!....note the technical progress...only one man needed to move the plane out...great video, thanks!!

Say what you will about the German war machine, We all have our politics,. But on this site I like to admire German engineering and the planes they designed and built and used to great effectiveness,
The whistle is the sound of the compressor.
Yes, it does indeed whistle, fabulous.
Nothing beats the original DB605. Congratulations on the restoration and the sharing of the video.

Thank you for this remarkable upload.
That BF 109 has always been my favorite plane of all time. I really regret that we Don't even have one in hour museum in Normandie. Thank you very very mush for that sound.
This plane is so beautiful. Although it has been more than 70 years, it is very well maintained!
Beautiful plane and sound. Thanks for letting us hear the sounds without music or narration. Thank you so much. Reminds me of my IL2 days. They did pretty good replicating sounds.
Awesome aircraft, looks and sounds terrific, a credit to all who worked it.
Very nice video 👍

Sounds terrifying as well, those things are scary yet beautiful.
I’m gonna say that is a high time pilot, professional preflight inspection, wonderful piloting. Awesome to see an original flying again!
Thx 🙏
agreed...you know for sure they don't just let anyone climb into the cockpit of an aircraft like that, regardless of flying time.
Not original, a constructed 'data plate' replica, please seek my posts above for more details

A beautiful aeroplane. Sleek lines, she looks shark like in the air. Fantastic sound of the engine.

The technology that was present in aircraft of the 1930s and 1940s never ceases to amaze me to this day. Automotive technology by comparison seemed so last century.
I can just imagine an old veteran watching this thinking "Our aircraft never looked so good, and our preflights were never so thorough!"
And not having to start the bloody thing with a crank handle!!
Like a full MOT beforehand 👍
Well, a few Cs might've looked fine and dandy in....dunno' 1938?
WAIT!? It has to be with thé 605?
how did I ever survive being so exhausted? Wie habe ich jemals überlebt, so erschöpft zu sein? (thats Yankee Deutsch)
I'll bet the preflights were that thorough for all the guys that came home - the English Channel doesn't look like a large stretch of water until you encounter a problem halfway across it (I know that would have been Bf109Es, but the point still stands).
What an amazing machine! And that engine sound is awesome!
Mikael is a great man! Take off and landing a BF 109 G is very tricky! I include Klaus Plasa and all other current BF 109 pilots!
Good they brought them back to earth
Klaus Plasa is the tall blond chap, helping the pilot before the start, by the way.
Incredible how fast and smooth it started, no smoke even. And a smooth idle straight after.
Boah, hört der DB 605 sich sauber an. Chapeau vor Rinner Motors Austria. Sauber hin bekommen, das gute Stück. Es ist schön, so ein historisches Stück Ingenieurskunst zu sehen und zu hören.
Such a coincidence, I was just reading Robert Grinsell's book, that my Dad picked up at a garage sale the other day. Over 30,000 of these planes were produced. I had a fairly good sized diecast toy of one when I was a kid. Loved that plane!
Great show. It’s always good to see beautiful airplanes

amazing how it changed to a two seater during the landing and then back to a one seater on the roll out :D. Anyway good to see another one up in the air. :)

That Big old engine sounds terrifying at distance!! Amazing sound!!
You’ve never been to Chino when the only original A6M Zero is dragged out.
Nice to see someone have the shutter speed on their video camera set correctly to get the nice prop blur. Also, rest of your video work was beautiful, too.
Seen & heard a lot of warbirds here in California, Reno Air Races, even Oshkosh. Would love to see a 109 with the DB605. Thanks for posting this awesome video. And huge thanks to all responsible for the restoration, so us mere mortals can enjoy the sight and sound of such an awesome machine.👍😎
Thanks watching and your comment
Superb engineering at its best. Engine Engineers of that era, German, Russian, American and British . . were all top notch.
So good to see and hear the DB engine in a Bf-109.
The ''landing'' however if not mistaken was the now Merlin powered two- seater, D-FMGZ.
if i am correct it was powered by a DB engine before the Merlin.
correct
I noticed that too...I replayed that after it landed because I thought, "wait a second...that was not the same airplane..."
The first 10 seconds is like something I thought I would never experience. Just like that 190 they pulled out of the woods & got it flying again. Two of 3 main fears of allied airmen in WW2. First being "flak." Nice reference source also.
Another beautiful restoration. Well done!
Achtung!! 👌 Awesome warplane.
An amazing aircraft. The sound of these planes surely instilled fear from anyone that heard them. My grandfather said it was one of the most recognizable sounds while he was in the war.
How did hear the engine of a ME-109?
Только вы со своими самолётами, что то о делались во вторую мировую😂😂😂
The bf 109 is a beautiful aircraft and an iconic piece of German war machine during world war 2 it great to see one in such amazing condition and all the young German pilots that few them , i remember as a child building model kits of this plane and all aircraft of world war 2 , this plane looks just as menacing and frightening as it would have been back in the war 😮
That Daimler DB 605 engine sounds beautiful, but it does still sound different than the Merlin, I believe I would be able to tell without seeing the aircraft whether it was Friend or Foe. Thanks for the wonderful demo flight.
My favourite aircraft of all time, what a thing of beauty, so happy to see another one in flying condition :-)
Thx alex
Beauty is something very subjective ... Anyway nice restoration for an efficient fighter despite a sinister reputation. The "truncated" svastika on the tail is questionable, to say the least, especially for a plane registered in Germany.
Just my opinion.
@@patolt1628 the swastica is illegal in Germany, but I believe there can be an exception for museum artefacts?
@@drstrangelove4998 should be in my opinion
@@drstrangelove4998 Yes probably: it's indeed illegal except for the purposes of historical representation. It's the grey area ... In my country it's the same: forbidden except for artistic (historical films, etc.) or religious (Hindu Gods bearing the swastika) purposes.
In my view it's a problem since this symbol is not only referring to the Nazi regime as such but also to the Holocaust. On another hand I know that, at least for history representation, it's debatable. Not simple
What a hell of a video and who would have thought tyhat these can be brought back to their days of flying glory like you see now in this video.

Wonder how much a plane like this is worth? $3-4M?
One word. TRAWLERS
Thanks to computer-assisted manufacturing they can now easily produce lost components.
In the 1940s they just cranked engine parts out as fast as possible and used whatever metal was available
Longevity wasn't an issue because the aircraft would last less than a month in Frontline service
You would read where a group commander would say that they left with 20 someing aircraft and perhaps 11 would be forced to return due to mechanical difficulties.
A V12 unmistakably sounds like a V12, no matter what configuration it's in. Fantastic to see the old bird flying with its original engine!
Yes thx watching and subscribing
I have been told by an old WW2 aircraft mechanic ( my late father) that the original BF 109 engine crankshaft was so well perfectly hand machined by German machinists with a method still secret today. They don't know how they did it.
The crankshaft also had a cannon barrel running through it which made it all the more difficult to machine. There's nobody making them anymore so every time a warbird crankshaft gets bent, it renders the 109 unrestorable. 🤠

No it doesn't.
The motorkanone was laid in the base of the vee between the cylinders, and through the reduction gear on the front of the engine.
