    Wow, I mean just wow! Guys, this is one amazing explore! Eagle Eyes, you are the man! Finding those first aluminium pieces, in all that forest growth, was incredible, but then, young man, you showed us why you earned your nickname. You did us proud finding the rest of the plane, and yes, the actual crash site. HH, EE, just fantastic work! Seeing what remains of the 109's engine just laying there, broken and wrecked, was just an amazing thing to see. That 109 hit very hard, and just concertinered herself into the hillside, as you can see by how the alluminium has been squashed together. The rest of the engine is probably still there too, scattered into the bushes, and trees. The German recovery team probably had little to do apart from removing what was left of the guns, and their ammo, and just left the rest where it lay. Again guys, just an incredible, amazing, explore, and find! Thank you for sharing this, and, more importantly, for all the effort it took to reach the site! Cheers to you both! Stay Healthy!

    This is a great find, worth the research time and legwork, HH. Finding part of the engine block above ground is phenomenal. Actually, a lot of the metal is still left. It looks like they grabbed the military hardware, MGs, and radios and left the rest. I loved the accordion piece; it gives you an idea of how fast the plane speed was when it impacted. Excellent spotting, EE. Great work, people. Stay safe and well.

    The gun couldn't physically fire through the crank because it was not a complete tube. It did go through the top of the block somehow. I will have to look it up now myself lol

      There is an offset to the front gear box. The propeller does is not bolted directly to the crankshaft. All V-12s have a reduction gearbox. The small gear is on the crankshaft and the big gear has the splined propeller shaft on it. They are made in 1 piece. The cannon is usually placed between the Cylinders. It has to be fairly easy to take out for maintenance.

    • @spamhead
      @spamhead 4 месяца назад +8

      Yes, that’s correct. The cannon was positioned below the crankcase, and fired between the cylinders(inverted Vee)

He spared a crippled B-17 bomber and it's crew and protected them on their flight back across enemy lines in 1943. He could of been shot for doing that. I always enjoy your videos.

    The oil coolers, and Ethylene Glycol engine coolers (Radiators) are made with a brass frame designed to hold an exact number of tubes. The tubes themselves are made with a Hex end, so when they are assembled the Hex ends fit together tightly and are then soldered. The Hex end is slightly larger than the round middle section , so when assembled , there are small spaces between each tube, that allow the fluid being cooled to flow through the cooler. The flow is also controlled by a thermostat. When an engine starts to go bad and make metal, the metal flakes get imbedded between the tubes. No amount of cleaning can get them all out. The oil cooler is sent to a shop and the core is then de-soldered and a new core is installed into the body.

      @@WW2HistoryHunterThe BF-109 and the American P-51 were my favorite war birds. The Daimler V-12 motor was so far ahead of it's time with its sophisticated fuel injection system. I look forward to seeing more of your content!

    Another great exploration you guys I wish I had eagle eyes vision thanks for doing all the hard work to find the amazing history and sharing it with us the city that I live near has two world War 2 naval ships and a submarine of the same area as museum ships but the two ships were converted to be missile ships but they are still still very cool to see them because my father served in the Navy but we don't have any crash sites her so it's cool to go out on this exploration thanks for dealing with the gigantic blood sucking bugs

    Aviation Archeology is very interesting to me but I am too old to actually go trekking to find any wrecks. About 20 years ago I did some research and got the locations of several crash sites here in Georgia, USA. From WWII to the 60s.

    How on earth did you find that? LOL. Amazing. As you know the 109 is my favourite airplane. In particular , I love the Me109G-2 although going by the engine parts, I'd say yours was an E type. Maybe E7. Hard to tell of course. Great job EE. Amazing brilliant job guys. Wow.
