He was jumping up and down here and just smiling form ear to ear. I am touched by that my friend and we thank you for the kindness. Please leave us your mail if you may. I believe they are primer cannisters for those big cannons you know the really bid ones were you load from the breach the shell then the bag of powder then close the breach load the primer into the breach block then boom

  • @mikep490
    @mikep490 10 месяцев назад +18

    From reading, the 5 is the number of items. Zdlg was the abbreviation for primers (fuse explosive). The fuse screws into the tip of the shell. The nose of the shell is a void and the detonator (fuse) shoots its flame thru this cavity, igniting the explosives in the shell base. A, B or C type indicated how it was secured in the shell, so shells and detonators had similar compatability markings. This could have been the location of an anti-tank gun, of various sizes up to 10cm bore. I've seen bakelite containers for similar fuses for sale online. USE CARE WITH ANY THAT SEEM HEAVY. THEY MAY CONTAIN UNEXPLODED ORDINANCE THAT COULD BE UNSTABLE.

    Wow, a huge find of fuse boxes, both metal and Bakelite, what a find EE and HH! A once in a lifetime discovery! • @lordgarion514
      @lordgarion514 9 месяцев назад +1

      VERY much so.
      We missed plane production numbers by around 30% or so, because they couldn't mine and process enough aluminium.
      Mining and processing was increased as fast as possible. But more and more planes were needed until near the very end.

    Definitely one of THE most incredible "once in a lifetime" discoveries ever. What a super amazing find by Eagle Eyes! To see these containers, lying under that rock shelf, in all that greenery, while focused on getting to the magnet fishing spot, and not expecting such any Finds. Huge support for EE to just keep on doing what he does best. Finding amazing things, in the most unexpected places! I'm wondering if that area was an artillery range used for practice shoots in the early stages of the war, after the Fall of France, and before Operation Barbarossa? Since most of the Gaine containers seem to be dated around 1940, and the round Flare container would fit that too. And you guys just found the "secret" dumping place for unwanted containers. Well done to both of you for digging so many pieces out of there! Thank you both for sharing this amazing, incredible, find! Stay Safe!

      Yes for me it was just a case of let us get to the water but for him it is adventure everywhere and it pays off. very glad for that. Those containers held Aerial flares for a Flare gun. Remember......at night they were popping these off every minute or 2 in order to see if the enemy was creeping on them OR were launching them for night attacks or repelling night attacks. Pretty cool if you found the flare pistol

    What a fantastic find. This is what I found on the containers and it looks to be correct. Thank you both for sharing this once in a life time find and as always " Good Hunting " (Zdlg. "A")
    The gaine consists of an aluminium body 2.95 inches long and 0.83 inch in diameter, filled with a pressed pellet of Cyclonite/Wax 92/8, weighing 577 grains, density 1.61. The Cyc-lonite/Wax mixture is tinted pale blue by the addition of a small quanitity of drystuff. A cavity is formed at the head end to receive the detonator, which is enclosed in an alumi-nium tube. The detonator contains 6.5 grains of cylconite under 6.3 grains lead azide/ lead styphnate (58.8 per cent/41.2 per cent). A disc of aluminium, with a central hole, holds the detonator tube firmly in its cavity and is itself held by a leather washer. An aluminium ring completes the closure by being folded over the lip of the body. The body is marked "Zündladung A" or "Zdlg. A".

    During the Vietnam War one of my Vietnamese Interrogators brought me a bakelite container which had a clockwork mechanism inside it. Reading the writing on the mechanism I determined it must be Russian made since it contained Russian writing on it. I kept it on my desk and a few days later while interrogating a North Vietnamese mortar man, a POW, I asked him if he knew what this mechanism was used for....he said, "it's a time fuse for a 82mm mortar or a 122mm rocket which allows them to have a timed air burst". At that time we were having problems with our helicopters being damaged by air bursts, but we didn't know what the North Vietnamese and the Viet Cong were using to obtain those air bursts. I forwarded this mechanism to CDEC/CMEC in Saigon, along with a copy of my interrogation report which solved the "secret" of how they were attaining air bursts when shooting at our aircraft!

    A gaine is a small booster charge that is more sensitive to a detonator than the main explosive charge, it transmits the detonation from the detonator to the main charge. Not sure if these type were pre fitted with detonators in the boxes, ( probably not for saftey reasons ) so if you find any live ones the gaine itself is not sensitive to shock or heat but the detonator if present is very much so.

Great find on the bakelite items also. Cool indeed. Mosquitoes suck literally 😮. Be interesting to know more about your finds with the texts. Awesome finds EE. Thanks ❤

    Spectacular random finds!
    So many of them!
    Probably a good thing that you guys got lost on the way to magnet fish😂
    I was surprised those ignitior/gain fuse containerswere made out of aluminium... early in the war, by the dates...
    I guess the bakerlite ones were from later, when the Luftwaffe needed all the aluminium for aircraft.
    Keep up the excellent work History Hunter team ❤

    That's exactkt what they are, cases for artillery fuses. Not magnetic because they are made of aluminum which is why they're in such good condition. Pretty wild to find all of those in such good condition.

    These are cases for signal flares, but without the launcher. Hence the wooden and aluminum construction, (anti-spark). The only other possibility is that they’re murder shell casings for stubby mortars mounted on the turrets of tanks in cluster tubes of 5 each.
    IMHO . . .

    Truly an astounding discovery! The containers are kinda cool, but what impresses me most is the finding of such an ecological paradox...
    That this space beneath the rock, in the middle of a predominantly deciduous forest, has remained almost completely devoid of leaves and other vegetative materials for around eight decades warrants extensive investigation.
    Add to that the containers, for these eight decades, were apparently never found until now...
    It also occurs to me that soldiers are normally instructed to conceal their refuse in combat areas to prevent detection by enemy forces. This cavity seemed to have served as a very convenient trash receptacle. That there is such a limited variety of cast off materials has me downright flummoxed.
