    Myles Kennedy has something like a 4 octave range - it's one of the greatest vocalists ever, he's otherworldly. As a song writer, Tremonti is one of the best out there already, but pair him with Kennedy, it's mind blowing. As a bass player, I can tell you that Brian Marshall is another unsung hero - he lays down the thunder and the melodies better than nearly everyone else out there active in the Rock/Metal scene right. The weakest member of the band is Scott Phillips, who's better than the majority of drummers out there, but downplays his skill to fit the songs more appropriately (that's not an insult; to say the the weakest member of the band is one of the best of the best, is just illustrating how ridiculously talented these guys are). It's impossible to quantify how good these guys really are. Tremonti is one of my big heroes in music and I can't wait to see what he does next with either of his bands.

    Fun fact in case you may not of known. If you take out myles the rest of the band used to be creed. When creed broke up their singer was Scott Stapp. Mark tremonti ( lead guitar ) Scott Phillips ( drummer ) and Brian Marshall ( bass ) were the other 3 members of creed. When creed broke up a couple years later they started alterbridge and had myles Kennedy come in for tryouts. Which turned into this beyond amazing band.

    In terms of Guitar tuning. When playing live they generally tune in what has been called "Open G" tuning, D.G,D,G,B,D. Mark Tremonti (The lead guitarist) has said in interviews previously that they tune down an extra half step in the studio. Also cool fun fact, Mark Tremonti is also the founding vocalist for Creed and later formed a self titled band "Tremont. Another fun fact, everyone in the Alter Bridge other than Myles is from Creed.

    • @RB-oc7ti
      @RB-oc7ti 2 года назад

      Tremonti wasn’t Creed’s vocalist. He did some backing singing and harmonies though behind Scott Stapp. He does sing a few AB songs however; and continues his great harmonies with Myles Kennedy singing most of the leads.
      AlterBridge is so much more complex musically than Creed was. Myles is also heavily involved in the songwriting process in AB and he plays rhythm and lead guitar. Tremonti is allowed freedom to rip face melting solos with AB like he wasn’t allowed in Creed.

    Brian Marshall is outstanding on this track.......mind you, so is Scott. Everyone always talks about Myles and Mark (understandably), but the other two - well, I'll just say it wouldn't be Alter Bridge without what they do.

    People use to think I was crazy about the musicianship of creed. Mark Tremonti has progressed so much through the years as a writer. And singer. Miles is a perfect fit. I’m glad they didn’t continue to use the name creed. By that time it had already had a black eye.

    When Myles hits that long high note at the end and Tremonti just looks over with that smile. I'd say Mark picked the best rock voice of this generation. You are correct about the alternate tunings, Tremonti never plays in standard tuning. Most of it is C#, G5, Drop D, he brings 7-9 different guitars on tour just because of the tuning.

      Not technically true, Take You With Me and Bringer of War off "A Dying Machine" are in E Standard! Also a bunch of stuff from Creed and two songs off One Day Remains, though I forget which. But from Blackbird through Walk the Sky and his first 3 Tremonti albums you're absolutely correct, not a single E Standard song in sight.

    Myles is my most favorite rock tenor. The band - Mark Tremonti (lead guitarist) Brian Marshall (bassist) & Scott Phillips (drummer) were previously Creed. The ending kills me each time I hear it and I listen to it alot. I believe Nathan Klein & Andrew Skeet did the orchestral arrangement for this song.

    Some background on this song that I think you'll consider interesting. Specifically, THAT vocal note near the end was the reason for this song not being performed live for the seven years after it was recorded, despite it being a common fan favorite. Myles talks about it a little just before they perform the song on their official video (not sure if that's what you used or not, so here: ruclips.net/video/fTvJ1TYORJg/видео.html ). You can see Mark Tremonti's (the other guitarist and singer) reaction after Myles nails the note and if you listen closely you can hear the audience's rising reaction as well.
    A beautiful song about two friends with opposing viewpoints on religion and faith, one secular and the other non, turned into a beautiful overall performance. Thank you for your take on it; you've earned my subscribe. :)
    May I recommend their song Fortress, either from the album Fortress or off this same orchestral performance.

    Thanks, it was nice to hear a more technical reaction to this. I was there that night, actually both nights, for this gig. Can I just add that the sheer majesty of a band at the height of their powers, backed by a full orchestra, mixed perfectly, in acoustically brilliant venue is utterly breathtaking. This was definitely one of the best gigs I've been to, and I've been to a few over my 40 years (yes, I'm that ancient) of concert going..

    Sometimes it is almost impossible to verbalize what Miles does with his voice. I personally, think of superlatives that just don’t quite seem adequate most of the time. He is just flawless. I just love this band as a whole! Mark’s supporting & alternately leading vocals are incredible. His guitar play can give you chills. Brian’s bass play is perfect given the soaring guitars & vocals. Scott is likewise amazing. This band can seem dark, yet ultimately you can’t help but feel uplifted by the end of their songs. I absolutely love these guys. As close to perfect as one can get really. The first time I heard these guys I was hooked! Man, Miles’ voice is so sick! His range is incredible & he is as pitch perfect as anyone I’ve ever heard. An amazing band! And bringing in the orchestra on this song was a perfect harmony of two opposite ends of the spectrum. I love the mix of an orchestra with metal or hard rock music. You wouldn’t think these genres could turn out this beautiful. However, when it is done right it is spine tingling & almost spiritual. I’d say this is my favorite Alter Bridge song, but I say that about all of them. On any given day who knows which one will be my favorite. I just love them all!
