@@wedonteatbears almost every single feature you mentioned was there in sole form in Civilization 1, or at the very least 2. There was no Steam back then, so nothing counting the play hours. But the original Civ is probably my most played game ever. And that's with about 6.5k hours in CIV V.
I have played Civ since 2011 when I was 9 years old. When Covid hit Civ 6 was pretty much the only game that I played and it really was the silver lining of the pandemic. This series has followed me through my entire life and really shaped the way I see the world. I am so happy that that will continue.
I started in 1999. Civ 2. Playing on a LAN with my friends in our school's computer room after class. Hoping to play Civ 7 online with one of them some day.
No reason? More like about time. Navigable rivers have been fundamental to the development of human civilizations since time immemorial. The Mississippi still IS fundamental to United States trade and development. It was a massive oversight not including them in previous games.
@@ChristopherTriplett What I mean is that from a gameplay perspective it doesn't do that much I do like it as I said an amazing decision especially considering how in real civilization rivers where really important as you said
@@IDKisReal2401 It doesn't do much in the games because it has never existed in the games bruh. Every game I play there are rivers that at some point would have made excellent sense to embark troops down in order to move them more quickly. Or trade routes for that matter. Or having ship-yards at the end of a massive river allowing in-land high production cities to produce some (Maybe not AC's) naval vessels, especially when you have several major cities along a river towards a coastal city. Or even scouting in the early game could be entirely changed if you spawn next to a river.
During my childhood in the early 90's, I played Civilization I. Or just Civilization. I turned 10 in the year 1991. Playing that game was glorious. Civ II I didn't play that much, but Civ III even more.
That was my exact first thought too! Like it's great to get some in game footage, but there wasn't a single *gameplay* thing in that whole trailer haha.
There were hints about things though. A boat going up a river. Continuing with a districts-like system where you have buildings/etc taking tiles. The keeping of natural disasters. But I get your point. Though even as someone that's planning to stick with Civ V there were things I liked such as them making civs' unit styles look more unique. And the art style.

I've played every Civilization since the first. The older I get, the less time I've had to spend on each new game. I've played dozens of games of Civ, Civ 2 and 4 as a kid and teenager. A few Civ 5, and then it dropped off a cliff with Civ 6 when I entered full dad mode. To me it still feels like a new game I barely dipped my toes into. Yet it's 8 years old already! Yikes! Played the OG on DOS, when all you got were squares on a VGA monitor. Still spent countless hours, beat the game with all civilizations: Zulu, Greeks, Romans, Chinese, American, Germans, Mongols, Indians, French, English, Egyptian, Babylonians, Aztec, Japanese, Russian.
I like aztecs but im kinda sick of them, it would be nice to have a different leader, like benito juarez, francisco i madero, lazaro cardenas, just something different that is noy aztecs
Read the description in this video. It seems there will be some sort of culture evolution mechanics like in Humankind and also it looks like the leaders are decoupled from the civilization. So it'a definitely possible for any leader to lead any civilizations like Napoleon leading the English for example.
Simple fix to solve hate: Make civ changes optional. Award a "legacy" bonus for staying w a civ that counters not getting age relevant units etc. If you want to take the Aztecs to space you can. If you want to min\max w civ changes you can. Forcing change on players = bad. Don't steal my Roman legion musket lines.
Civ 2 is still my favourite game of all time. I used it so much, that eventually the CD-ROM -which unfortunately you always had to leave in the drive, got scratched and wouldn't work any more. Navigable rivers for no reason is an amazing decision
And I mean it
No reason? More like about time. Navigable rivers have been fundamental to the development of human civilizations since time immemorial. The Mississippi still IS fundamental to United States trade and development. It was a massive oversight not including them in previous games.
@@ChristopherTriplett What I mean is that from a gameplay perspective it doesn't do that much
I do like it as I said an amazing decision especially considering how in real civilization rivers where really important as you said
No reason? The fan pages on Reddit have been asking for it. I’m one of those people.
They are going to force us to change civilizations each new era. Consider me out.
1 MINUTE AGO. WE ARE BACK TO DOMINATE GAMING
5 minutes for me. Got distracted by breakfast, lol
I've got something to tell you
During my childhood in the early 90's, I played Civilization I. Or just Civilization. I turned 10 in the year 1991. Playing that game was glorious. Civ II I didn't play that much, but Civ III even more.
This wasn't even a gameplay reveal, it was more of a cinematic reveal
That was my exact first thought too! Like it's great to get some in game footage, but there wasn't a single *gameplay* thing in that whole trailer haha.
There were hints about things though. A boat going up a river. Continuing with a districts-like system where you have buildings/etc taking tiles. The keeping of natural disasters.
But I get your point. Though even as someone that's planning to stick with Civ V there were things I liked such as them making civs' unit styles look more unique. And the art style.

The cities are really beautiful and a huge step up. I hope the gameplay is as fun as it looks good.
0:44 inland cliffs? 0:32 Weather disasters (interesting bit of land next to that volcano, hills maybe?). 0:29 River trading (can units use them too? Also whats that white stuff on the dead trees top right?). 0:48 Monument taking a tile? (do buildings take tiles now? Or maybe just aesthetic). 0:49 Tiles blend together really well and look great! (Districts I assume) 0:53 Wonders still take a whole tile. 1:18 Trainyard/station. 1:28 mountain plateau? (maybe natural wonder?). Not really seeing many farms, do we build houses now?
1:28 is Roraima mountain I guess
If theres no farms im not buying

Looks promising, but I am sceptical about the switching civ per age. I think I would rather just play the same civ throughout the ages. Wouldn't have mind it much if the leader changes per age, but a leader from that specific age.
This is what happens in human kind. Human kind is a really good game in honesty. There is more competition about now. I hope this game live up to the legend of its predecessors. I have thousands of hours across the series :)

Each new era they are going to force us to change civilizations. :(
My Civ journey started with the first game on the Amiga. Little did I know that I'd still be playing Civ 30 over years later!
Yikes!
Getting old is scary.

Too bad you missed out on Civ III, the best of the series.

@@hairharbor5080 I played several games of Civ 3 too, but much less than 1, 2 and 4. For some reason it didn't leave the lasting impression that the others did, and I didn't play it as often. Could be I was distracted with other things during its time window.
@@wojtulacehoe5089 Endless Legend is great, except for the AI that barely does anything. In the few games I played it was extremely passive. That's the problem with these games that have very detailed mechanics. Coding an AI that is up to the task is extremely difficult, so the developers frequently skimp on it and leave it underdeveloped.

Read the description in this video.
It seems there will be some sort of culture evolution mechanics like in Humankind and also it looks like the leaders are decoupled from the civilization. So it'a definitely possible for any leader to lead any civilizations like Napoleon leading the English for example.
Si, espero que si esté como civilización aparte de los aztecas y mayas, los 3 juntos pero separados al mismo tiempo
