I'd say it's more of a 50/50 chance he'll either miss you completely or continuously hit you till your PC crashes due to how much rubberbanding you'll both be doing on launch day.

@@weakish From what I've seen that's only true if you keep up on your tax to the Emperor, so if you fail at PvPing for Spice, your base is open to raids and destruction.
I'm sure the Thumpers will cost like a billion in game credits. To ensure players arent just summoning worms every 10 secs.
I bet same goes for all bigger vehicles, probably a lot of grind only to lose it to someone else anyways
Hopefully. My first thought was the amount of griefing that will happen with that thing.
It's possible is a world event and all teams have so long before the thumper is deployed. Like a 5 minute pvp match and a thumper comes out at 4 minutes or something.
@@serrahighsfinest from what I've gathered, the worms are active AI, thumpers can be deployed but they may not work if a worm isn't already nearby to begin with, it doesn't just spawn them in

Edit: Since some of you seem to be a little slow, I'm not saying "turn the game into a solo experience", I'm asking for them to add solo things to do. I don't want to have to get a big group to buy the game and then schedule ourselves so we can play. But that's me, I just want it to not be unplayable solo.

There's a high likelihood of updates to allow players to travel to the ice caps and offworld + a possible 4th House.
Well, they are still updating Conan Exiles to this day and it came out in 2018. They, meaning Funcom.

It needs more CQC. Short swords should be the main weapon and guns should be less punishing. I’m worried it just becomes a shooter and not a dune game. There’s very cool mechanics you could integrate to the combat system like fremen having the ability to hide under the sand, having a pattern to use with short swords to be hable to land a hit or make it even simpler and just incentivate the player to use CQC to attack instead of just shoot shoot. The use of specific guns could solve the issue. There are some technologically advanced weapons on dune that are capable of penetrating a shield by slowing themselves down will spinning on the shield like shown in the first of Dennis films. Maybe give a slim chance to allow players to negate the bullet trying to penetrate their shields and not just make it a Fortnite shield. You guys really have the opportunity to make something special here. And all I’m seeing is really good work, I just wished something’s were more book accurate.
1. there is melee in the game, literally a class featured in this video is based around that style, we just only get glimpses of the melee. 2. Guns are absolutely used on Dune, the personal shields drive the worms into a frenzy, no-one wears them beyond the shield wall. You mention the first Dennis film, I guess you forgot the opening of the second where a troop of Harks get sniped.

In the gameplay, they showed the unbalance when one uses shield and the other uses guns. Melee will definitely be powerful!
He didn’t say there were no guns, he said they should be less punishing. Melee weapons are the main choice in the general Dune universe because lasguns cause nuclear explosions when they hit an active shield and general firearms that we saw in the second film would be useless against one. There are obviously other planets outside of Arrakis, so this is really an exception to everywhere else. It gives the devs a little leniency with weaponry, but it’s a valid concern because if this ends up as a generic 3rd person shooter it’s going to be disappointing.
@@mitch7424 That has been addressed for game purposes.
In this case, when using a lasgun on someone who has shields, the Lasgun will stop working against the shield wearer, making it a liability against anyone with a shield, but devastating against anyone who doesn't.
On the topic of shields, having a shield activated on open sand is a death sentence as it will quickly bring in Sandworms, so its a trade off.
Fight with shield and gain an edge against long range weapons, but bring in sandworms faster.
Or fight without shields and lose that advantage, but not trigger sandworms until much later.
But this game more or less proves a point i've made for a long time, shields are powerful but not perfect or impenetrable and good old quantity still works against shields.
Granted creating a slow penetrator round is highly efficient, but expensive and regular ballistics work well against shields, just take a while to break the shields.
On the note of firearms, so far it seems that weapons are holtzmann effect weapons, meaning they are more like railguns than conventional ballistics, with the Holtzmann effect being a gravitic accelerator kind of thing, propelling spike type projectiles at high speeds without the need for antiquated gunpowder.
Don’t rush this. This needs alot more work and we’ll wait! This game could be insane!

Dune, the desert planet, where you can meet hundreds of other players, randomly... and create your base in the open because obviously that's lore accurate
Just hope there's gameplay for people who don't like PvP or people who just prefer playing with family and close friends (so maybe ~6 people max).
Just like Conan Exiles, it will have separate servers, some pve, some pvp and some pvp with limitations.

@@marvinfreitagsmueller9527 From what I've heard there are hot zones in the game where PVP is enabled like Spice fields but you can build your base away from those zones where PVP isn't enabled. If you don't like PVP there will be servers for you to play on, they wouldn't alienate PVE players I promise you that
The game looks beautiful but you don't have to wonder how they can keep an MMORPG survival game fresh without it getting boring pretty quickly. It needs a lot of mission variety and a lot of cool unique places other wise the player pop will drop very fast. Fingers crossed they nail it.
The Deep Desert is periodically completely reset by Coriolis Storms, giving you a brand new map to explore each time. That will help a lot.
They created conan exiles more content is def coming
AFAIK the "shifting sands" is a map POI clear/cycle so that "after the storm" there's new stuff to find/look for.
Also, they can borrow a lot of stuff from whatever the movie brings to the universe since they're working closely with the film adaptation (particularly with art direction/style. It looks like the "walking around" parts are actually separate maps/play spaces, connected by an "overworld/over-map" that you fast-travel between

What others said but they specifically mentioned the map design the way it is so they can continue to add to the planet. Meaning more map areas after release.

Looking good. However, why are they doing HARKO VILLAGE? The book literally has a Harkonnen outpost city, being Carthag, they didnt need to make anything up.
Edit: So their new video stated that Carthag was destroyed by an atomic, with Harko village replacing it. Idk why they had to do that, but at least they explained it now.
This is a timeline without Paul Atredies being born, so things won't match the books.
@zainegardner those circumstances wouldn't stop Carthag from being built, since the Harkonnens still ruled over Arrakis for the time.
Regardless, the newer video just gave a decent reason why Carthag is gone, so I'm not pushing it further.

If you're into Dune even remotely, throw out any idea of this game being at all faithful to the books in any semblance other than "iconic things." @@_Digishade_ It is going to be the world of Dune, except one where there is no Muad'Dib/Quizats Haderach to break the current regime.
Also the surprise attack on Harrakeen fails spectacularly, leaving the Atreides as one of the most powerful Houses in the Imperium.
The Harkonnen are not out of the game, but have to rebuild slowly and fight for Arrakis.
Same with the Emperor, whose plot got exposed and so is forced to send his Sardaukar Legions to secure his own Spice production.
The Guild has a vested interest in the spice continuing to flow and so will transport anyone who can supply the spice, meaning that the Guilds monopoly is breaking as lines are drawn.
And the Gene Besserit sisters continue their plots in the shadows manipulating all against one another for their gain.
If anything this is a more interesting universe than the original, as several factions vie for power and control and the traditional control methods break down to allow the spice to continue to flow.
In fact other actors could appear, like the Ecaz, Tleilaxu, Ix, who see an opportunity for their own rise to power in the midst of this war between the Atreides, Harkonnen and Corrino and the Guild selling its services to whomever can continue to provide spice.
It's giving anarchy online 2.0 vibes which is a massive compliment for anybody that's an MMO OG

The thing I miss most about MMOs (first one I played was Everquest) is that all the older ones seemed to have opportunities for emergent gameplay, such as having interesting places to just visit, for no other reason than they're just cool, and being able to just socialise with random people. These days it's all about the grind, the daily quests, the half dozen different currencies, etc, etc. There's no time to just enjoy the setting. To enjoy the multiplayer. Older MMOs always had space to just "be", not just "do". The problem with content is that once you've done it, you've done it. Find ways for players to build emergent gameplay, and they'll make their own content.
@@macgonzo if you loved EQ1, I recommend you to check Pantheon Rise of the Fallen. I played the alpha and I can tell you is the closest MMO to the original EQ ever made.
This is looking a lot like some Ark Survival/Rust pastiche or maybe Destiny depending how many missions they do. Don't know why they're claiming it's a competitor, it's obviously one of those games where they rely on players to create their own excitement. Claim a plot of land and put your shitty house down.

You must add a randomly generated walking animation to the game so that the worms don't catch up with us. And let walking be activated by a separate button.

I just can’t play a game like this anymore when every time you turn a round there’s a griefer looking to ruin someone’s fun.
In some respects I almost consider the griefers part of the mechanics and lore with a game in this context, the battle for survival being rather merciless. Also means friends and allies are as rare n valuable as water in the desert. Just my thoughts on how I RPG it.

There’s no pvp in the main map you play in. There’s a specific map where pvp takes place

Please, make sure the game's not only MMO. Playing this as a multiplayer survival game would also be hella fun
Looks fantastic! This has the potential to be my dream game. I have been a fan of Dune since I first started reading the books in 1978. I've been a fanatic for the universe since then. Lately, after having been mostly into MMOs over the last couple decades, I've started to love playing survival games, particularly ones with systems like this game is supposed to have. If it turns out to be as good as it could be, and I hope it is, it might be "it" for me... I cannot wait to get in and start living this game!

Unfortunately Funcom is the one making this game, so I wouldn't get too hyped up if I were you, just look how Conan Exiles turned out. Nothing more than a base building, virtual farming simulator with a rushed lore thrown in after development to appease the fans. Funcom studio lacks the imagination to create an immersive story and environment. So many of the same promises with Conan, promises to make things better with patches, etc. only to scrap all of that to focus on selling skins and cosmetics. They lazily would not test patches as well before implementation causing players progress to be entirely wiped in order to assure items made it to the online store without delay. All of Funcom's games always degrade to a pit of micro-transactions, while all other features of the game are ignored by them, including exploiting players and mesh bugs. Some of these bugs are half a decade old and are still untouched. This game will be no different, they will listen for a year, then focus solely on their in-game store and selling overpriced skins to whales, like Conan now. The difference being, they may have learned from Exiles, and may actually release a full game, with a completed map.
I honestly don't know how this game will work, especially in the long term.
From what I gathered so far:
- It's an MMO (Like Age of Conan / WoW)
- With massive open PvP
- With an extensive Crafting System
- With an extensive Building System
And that.... should work? Unfortunately, my experience tells me, it will fail. Why? PvP. Players will herd to one or two strong guilds. Smaller guilds will get crushed, won't get the ressources they need, to get anywhere. So either join or die. Spice spots will get camped, rare/important other ressources will be camped as well.
You want a nice base? Good luck finding one, that isn't already taken, or good luck defending said base.
The demonstration of a "friendly" veteran greeting a newbie? Lol. Have you ever played something like DayZ or any other "survival" shooter?
I'll tell you what will happen: You spawn, you get killed for your blood, so that a veteran will get some "fresh" water.
As I said, I don't see how this will be fun, or will even work with a huge player base.
Should've gone the Conan Exiles route imho.

@@5aiv. Yes, for people who play the game 24x7 and have nothing else to do. For the rest of us with a job and family who want to play the game maybe for an hour or two at night or on weekends this game might be a nightmare.
As a longtime diehard fan of Conan exiles, I really hope this game has a lot of the same or similar mechanics. It looks like you guys are kinda doing that but without just making "Conan exiles in the future" which is good. I really loved the armor crafting, weapons crafting, and base building in Conan exiles. I play a lot of open world survival games and Conan exiles crafting system is the best and it's not even close so hopefully you guys brought over those things. I would be up all night into the next day just crafting and dying armor. I am so excited for this game man. Honestly I had never even watched a Conan movie but after falling so deep in love with your game, I started getting interested in watching the movies and now they're some of my favorites. Bravo funcom!

I know you guys read this stuff so believe me when I say I'm still pulling for you Funcom but what you finally just revealed there was just, well.. at most.. decent looking. Joel talked about the deep desert massive, combined arms combat having up to 400 players. I was expecting to witness some epic Planetside scale of combat in this game play reveal and what I just watched was definitely no Planetside. That wasn't even close to your typical Battlefield game experience. That whole "early 2025" stuff is looking a little crazy. Please ignore the ultra discord fanboys and just take your time, push this thing way back if needed. We don't exactly get many big budget western mmo's anymore.. I don't want to see the very few we do get just crash and burn within 6 months.

I think it looks good, my only concern with sandbox games is that it pretty heavily relies on you making your own fun essentially which can be awesome and annoying at the same time. I really hope I find some friends though who will enjoy it with me.!

@@Vitnir that doenst sounds good aswell. So there IS allways pvp ? what we want to hear is, there is a server without that shit. PVP Optional. Thats the way to do it. They will lose so much players if they go all the way forcing it
@@marvinfreitagsmueller9527 AFAIK there won't be different servers, I believe you start in the south of the map where there's just PVE, but if you go north far enough you'll eventually start to run into PVP.

Since it's multiplayer, I wonder how are they going to limit the call of sandworm with thumper. If at least 25 (or more) players all put thumpers in one location or different location, will 25 sandworms appear all at once? How will the server react on this? And that rock climbing is going to be a pain to QA test.
But can we swear allegiance to Corrino?

One thing that worries me, is if the bases have "expiration dates" when inactive, sure, servers must allow space for players, but at the same time, would be bad if needed to leave the game for a long time, only to find your progress erased. It would be cool if some places like haga Basin and other áreas less inclined to endgame could be played (optionally) in a non-dedicated session, with a drop-in drop out system for whoever wants to Join the game. Leaving the "wipe" system for places like the deep desert, where it would make more sense.
I must not fear, fear is the mind killer.

0 sword combat shown, and pretty much all guns... very concerning, considering this is not how the universe should be
Not to mention shields and laze guns were no good. Atomic explosions and all. Oh yeah and how easy it was to summon a worm with a shield, not to mention just building straight in the desert and not in caves or solid rock ground or riding around on a 4 wheeler and expecting not to be eaten by a worm in less than 2 minutes.
Need fish scale armor for endgame. Then eventually become God Emperor
and what about open beta? the beta was supposed to be released in 2023 and we're already halfway through 2024... if the game comes out in early 2025, when do they plan to open the beta? It doesn't make any sense xD
Beta has been going for long while now. Not everyone who signed up is going to get invited.

The chance of this game being highly dependent on aggressive group mechanics and off-game communication is huge, like the LFG in Destiny 2. Besides, many things open precedent for P2W apparently. What's more, if the raid mechanics in other players' bases are not well balanced and polished, the amount of trolls screwing up the global economy will make the game unviable.
Damn, so many gameplays this season. Game developers must have sweated themselves under insanely hot temperatures to finish this masterpiece before the deadline.

Gotta admit, the hummingbird/dragonfly whatever's wing animation is so jarringly distracting I couldn't even see the video content beyond it when present, and just sat here thinking about how to play without using that ship or if there will be alternate animations that can be toggled.
lasgun and holtzman shield together? This is one of the most widely known fact in the dune universe is that one doesnt go well with the other.
I imagine the mechanic is in game. Will be a game of rock paper scissors to risk any item you use.

Well, the interaction is supposed to be chaotic and random (one of which does include the double explosion). Obviously though, they can't just remove that aspect entirely.

Seems like someone isn't familiar with the books. It's just an homage to the novels, no one actually believes that it's the most dangerous, though it is objectively harsh as hell especially in the deep desert with the Coriolis storms
Not gonna lie, this looks rad as fuck. Loving the verticality of the map, very few MMOs have this. Add the free-climbing system from Conan: Exiles and it's chef's kiss.
The ideal Dune video game is where you play as Paul Atreides and you are constantly bombarded with visions and have to use your prescience to strategise and reach 'an' ending. Like a mix between Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice (visions) and Life is Strange (Max using her time travel powers to find the best timeline).

Why tease people with unfinished product. its like tryng to Sell a house with no roof no doors and no furniture yet with a sign w furniture.

So shameful to always see such strong and coherent universes turned into the most generic and boring video games possible... always the same gameplays and meta gameplays clones everywhere with zero creativity, and a global cosmetic "from this very old licence finally hyped by a big movie".
Only independant devs are creators nowadays... the amount of money put in a big project (a big part of it being the licence use only) lead the producer to take zero risk...

as far as I know it's pvp only in certain areas, no single player, very much doubt there's private servers since this is an mmo.
