  • *just realized this morning, that it might be because i now have Invisalign that i look a little more swollen again? I'm not sure, but I definitely have felt the muscles in face become a little sore, so it's possible it's just inflammed from that.

I was thinking this same thing.
You've said it so nicely. ❤
I'm very sure her entire face is still healing. So changes should still be expected.
I'm more concerned with Shelby's perfection issues?
At least it's starting to seem like she's having issues with expectations of perfection, or maybe it's just instant gratification?
      Maybe I'm wrong.
Struggling is difficult no matter what the root causes are.
Maybe it would be a good idea to find a professional to talk to, and learn how to let go of some of these worries.
I'm not judging you Shelby, really I'm not.
I just don't sugar coat things.
I'm simply seeing patterns, and am concerned from one human to another. ❤
Please, take that a face value. ❤

@@gardengatesopen She is a beautiful person inside and out. I think sometimes people don't understand the scrutiny people are under by being on youtube and her channels are huge - I cannot imagine it with that large of a channel. Sometimes people leave such insanely terrible comments Other than that, I agree that we are always our own worst critic. I am the same way. Hope it gets better. I think these things can really take a long time to heal. Sometimes doctors say it will take 6 months and it can take way, way longer. I had a foot surgery (obviously completely different) years ago and it was supposed to heal within a few months and it took well over a year.

Shelby, you need to practice self love! I know that’s much easier said then done but honestly, your nose has never stood out to me (and I’m sure that’s the case for most people). Changes can always be difficult and that’s okay, you might just need some time to adjust. You look great and you’re out here achieving more than most of your subscribers! We look up to you and find you an inspiration. At the end of the day, it’s your face and you can do whatever you’d like but from the bottom of my heart, I really don’t think you need to worry. You look great after surgery ❤️

I had my jaw removed and replaced 3 weeks before you got your surgery done. We’ve been healing at relatively the same pace so I understand where you come from. I haven’t felt 100 back to normal and still feel insecure about my appearance but just know you are not alone! It’s okay to go through the motions and honestly everyone’s experience is different.

I learned this a few years back. When you're 20 you think everyone is thinking about you. Then at 40 you don't give a dam what others are thinking about you. And at 60 you finally realize that no one has been thinking about you at all because they are to busy thinking about themselves. You look great and just keep telling yourself that. When I was 14 I was in an accident that left a huge scar on my chin and it took a few years to completely forget that I have the scar on my face. Now I never notice it and nobody ever says anything about it. Your new look becomes you and you look great!

Okay so as someone who has had your jaw surgery in the past, I completely relate to feeling like your face doesn't look "normal". For me it wasn't my nose but my chin, but like you, I didn't have feeling there for ages, and it was just kind of puffy looking. And people would tell me it didn't look that different, but I felt like it looked different and it made me pretty upset. It really did eventually go away, but it took a little over a year for me to feel like I was totally normal again. I think it's just when it's your face and you don't have partial feeling in a body part, you're always kind of aware of it. I don't think your nose looks weird or bad at all, but I completely understand why you're upset, and I don't think it's ridiculous or vain. You have to stare at your face so much for videos; I get why it would bother you. Anyways, I hope you feel better! Everyone in the comments section is rooting for you :)

I think this is common for many surgeries. I didn't have this surgery but I had abdominal surgery to repair diastatis recti (separated abs) and I was so swollen for nearly a year and even 4 years later the skin/muscles don't have the same sensitivity. Once you start getting your body cut into it's never quite the same.

I had jaw surgery about 8 years ago. And it took a long time to really recognize and reconcile my new face vs old. I still am completely numb in my chin. I honestly almost never think about it anymore you really do get used to the numb stiffness. If I were you, feeling the way you feel, and doing the kind of work you do, I’d wait six months and if you still feel the same way about your nose, see a surgeon and get it 100% the way you want it. It is totally worth it, not at all silly, and could have such a big impact on your mental health. Also maybe find a therapist and chat with them about it. It can be so helpful to process. Just my two cents!!

I think they say that it takes over a year for your face to settle after jaw surgery! And I think we have a tendency to pick on ourselves extra hard when we're going through a stressful time, so that probably adds a lot to it!

I’m really sorry that you don’t like how your face has changed. I have a friend that went through jaw surgery and she felt the exact same way. Her nose changed and she had a hard time adjusting as well.
It’s ok to feel like this and to be sad. It’s your face - you have to look at it everyday so what’s most important is that you like it. However you get there is personal to you. People don’t understand that having a constant source of anything, whether that’s pain, regret, etc is so difficult!
I feel for you. Wishing you the best on your healing/adjustment process, Shelby 💕

I was born with a cleft palate and had 7 surgeries between 6 months to 20 years old to correct it. I know how it feels to hate your face and cried looking at my nose many times because of swelling. Our face can take YEARS to heal. I can even see a difference from my healing from 22 to 24 years old. Trust the process and don’t compare yourself to others. Healing takes time 🤍

As someone who has also had surgery that changed my face (temporarily), I can relate to how you are feeling. It’s perfectly normal and valid, as so much of our identity is how our faces look. Keep reminding yourself that you had MAJOR surgery! It’s not unexpected that your body will still be adjusting after 6 months. The Invisalign will also likely be a frustrating process for you - having work done on my teeth was the worst. But I feel much more confident now that I have better dental health and my teeth look better. In another year, you’ll feel much better about the situation. Hang in there for now, and enjoy your youth!

Zoom is literally the WORST! I had such struggles getting used to it especially because I started getting acne again from wearing my mask so every time I had to get on Zoom, I also had to cover my acne. I started to just do my makeup and that surprisingly helped me feel better overall. Now that my skin has settled down I have reduced the amount of makeup I wear each day but what made me sad was feeling like I needed to put makeup on just to feel human. I've never before in my life felt that way.

It’s not superficial at all to feel stuck in a different body and especially a body you don’t love. I understand. 3 years ago I developed a chronic pain and fatigue condition and let me tell you the HARDEST part was feeling like my body was against me. Not a safe place for my soul anymore. And it sucks. So I just want to send love your way and tell you that it’s okay to feel this way and it’s not petty or superficial or materialistic at all. Not saying surgery is the answer but I know how frustrating and depressing self hatred can feel and not wanting to ever take pictures. Like the primering and painting of the cieling in your Palm Springs house and putting together the desk. I love that you talk about the stock market and you school us on it. You are so beautiful and so inspirational. You have so much to offer!

Hang in there! I absolutely understand where you are coming from. I went back to your old insta pictures and I can see swelling going on in the tip of your nose and also your jaw. It takes a year to heal. I am sooo sorry that it’s bothering you so much. Please be patient and try to focus on the positive aspects of the results! Remember that you still look beautiful!

Shelby! Allow yourself to be sad and upset. You are experiencing a shift in your life. Just because six months have passed by you don’t have to be over this and happy with your face. Really let your body release your feelings, give yourself grace. We all know we are our toughest critics, and it’s hard to face what’s worrying us. And then it’s okay if the thought comes back even after you’ve let everything out. Honestly feel these feelings.

I have watched your entire jaw surgery journey Shelby and I think you're looking great! I bet there is even more healing to come too as inflammation can takes ages to settle down. Please be kind to yourself.

Shelby, thanks for being so honest about what you're dealing with after the jaw surgery. You are such a sweet, intelligent and hard-working person. I hope it will continue to heal and the swelling will go down. But, if it were me (you probably already have done this) I would talk to my doctor about it. If it ends up bothering you excessively down the road, you may want to do something about it. You need to do what's right for you. I think it sounds like it's still healing, based on what you said. And, even if it's been 6 months, it was a major surgery and I think it could definitely take way longer to go back to normal. Hope the situation gets better. I think you are beautiful! 🤗

Dear Shelby, you look beautiful just the way you are. As a potential jaw surgery patient, your vlogs helped me to understand the surgery process more realistic and i can't thank you enough for that. Thank you for showing your emotions and thoughts without filter and fear. I watched lots of jaw surgery videos and i still think that you are swollen. I heard that the recorvery process could even take 2 years. So 6 months is nothing. You still have a journey ahead of you and you are rocking it! Even if your nose stays like this(tbh i don't think there is anything wrong with your nose) you would still have options to change it if it affects you mentally.

I had the same jaw surgery you did, and it took over a year for my swelling to fully go down and for me to feel good about how I looked. It's such a long process. A lot of what you don't like is swelling, and you will see such a huge difference at the one year mark (same with the numbness...the swelling in your nose will go down too). I didn't even realize how swollen I still was at six months until I looked back at pictures. My face changed SO much after the first year. I promise you will feel confident again. I know what you are experiencing, and it's so tough. You are absolutely stunning, but I know that doesn't help because you're the one that sees the changes and things you don't like. But just know you are beautiful! And you will feel that again once you are fully healed. Sending you so much love! :)

Shelby you are so so so beautiful! I know you feel like your face looks different, and even though there is a slight change it hasn’t changed how beautiful you are. You are one my favorite RUclipsrs. It breaks my heart that you don’t feel pretty. I hope you start to feel better about how you look soon. Maybe once the house is finished you’ll be less stressed and will view yourself the way we do...smart ,beautiful and chill af. You are literally goals!

I hope you start to feel better. I really think between the changes in your face and the renovation you're STRUGGLING and I just want you to know we hear you. I did a major renovation on my bathroom - JUST THE BATHROOM - in my house that was complete over a year ago and I STILL stress about it. Your stress over the house is totally normal I can't even imagine with the scope of your project . As for your nose, I feel like since it doesn't feel right it IS still healing/swollen. I hate that you're struggling. I highly suggest chatting with somebody (a therapist) if you don't already because these feelings you're having can possibly be managed with an outside perspective. Sending you love!!

Your side view is so awesome now! Your surgery achieved its goal. I hope your headaches are gone now from not having your proper bite before. Now, you have taken care of that part... just take time to heal emotionally a bit. You are an amazing young lady and from an amazing family. Always remember that!

Yes, your nose is a bit different now because they have to push back inward. If you still feel unhappy about your nose, get rhinoplasty. I wanted to that when I was your age because I also feel my nose is too big, but I come to terms with it now. I am an old lady and I still feel unhappy about it sometimes. Find it in yourself if you really want the nose job then go for it, and when you make that decision, try your best come to terms with it.

Shelby I had a year when my husband worked in another city which was a four hour drive away and I used to drive there every weekend to see him (I had a 3 day weekend at the time so it made more sense for me to go). I found that the secret to making the long drive go buy was listening to mysteries and thrillers. Those kind of stories are written to keep you 'turning the page' so I'd be happy to do my extremely boring 4 hour drive each way just to listen to them. Get Audible to sponsor you and try it!

Your nose looks fine but if you don’t end up liking the end result - don’t torture yourself and just get it fixed with surgery. You are the only one that matters when it comes to opinions about your own face so do what is best for you - even if that ends up being surgery.

Came to say basically the same thing. I would give it a full year and if I was still unhappy I would go talk to a plastic surgeon. It’s hard not to recognize yourself and it’s okay to have strong feelings about it.

Completely understand where you're coming from when it comes to being saddened with the change in your appearance. I had to have a skin lesion taken off my nose a couple years ago and it was really hard for the first year+ because I felt like I didn't look like myself anymore. You get so used to your appearance and it can be really jarring to have a change. For me it got easier with time, but I still get sad sometimes when I try to take pictures. Sending you positive energy and an air hug.

Hey Shelby, I had my jaw surgery 6 weeks ago and watching your videos helped me alot. I don't feel alone with my troubles and I'm sure that you are helping many people out there. People tell me that I look good and they see nothing wrong and it can be upsetting sometimes because it feels like nobody understands me (even though they mean it and they are trying to be supportive).
I do see that your nose shape has changed after the surgery, I don't think it looks bad, but I understand how you feel because we are all extra harsh on ourselves and I will also feel bad if I had gone through the same change as you did. I am thinking of having a cosmetic surgery after the swelling goes down to fix the parts I don't like, because as much as positive thinking is good, I look into my face everyday and it's important that I like it. Our problems are something that can be easily fixed with a cosmetic surgery, if you can find some relief in that. Also if your nose still feels weird & stiff, there is a possibility that it is still the swelling, since it can stay for 1 year. I hope you feel better :)

And also, not saying that you need a nose job, but it’s always an option if you continued to feel so unhappy with your appearance. No one can judge you girl you have been through it with jaw surgery, you deserve whatever will make you happy!
