Check the points where the cable is tightened. If they are frayed, the cable is getting closer to breaking. Also for the end staying in place - there are cable caps that exist exactly for this purpose. But if it's still a good cable, sure, this might fix it.

This is actually amazing, first short tip I will actually use.
Gen X'er here born in 1972. Spent my entire childhood riding bikes and that would've been the greatest hack ever!!!
Finally something practical in a RUclips Short!!!
But about 40 years to late lol, I was turning them with vice grip heating it and some lead, it never loosen or broken after that, this trick is much simpler and fast.

Nice!! I have used my fingers to rewrap the cable and then bend it so it runs closer to the brake caliper so it does not catch on anything.
