- I'm back in Wales, and I am back with Phil on another disused railway explore.
This time, we're looking at a short section of the former Ross and Monmouth Railway, between Monmouth Troy station, and Monmouth Mayhill.
The railway closed in 1959 but there are still plenty of remains in this small mile long section, including a tunnel, bridges, a magnificent viaduct, and some rather head scratcher remains in and around Monmouth Troy station.
Monmouthshire is beautiful at the best of times, but when the sun is shining, it's magnificent.
I hope you enjoy.

The playing fields adjoining the track bed actually belong to Monmouth School where I spent 7 glorious years in blissful ignorance of the history just a few steps away up the embankment. In the far corner of the playing fields where the bridge crosses is where some of us used to go for a crafty smoke - the video brought back many memories of playing rugby, cricket, tennis etc by the river, so thank you both.
That's great. I'm glad you enjoyed it mate
Stunning scenery, the viaduct ending at the river bank was very interesting. The oddness of things intrigues me I've come to realise. Love your walks with friends.
Great little vid that Gaz! That ruined viaduct was spectacular! I love um! Exceptional engineering. Cheers lads.
Thats my evening viewing sorted .
welsh countryside really is stunning, that can be said for countryside all across the uk, thanks for all your time and effort on these walks gaz, they are really relaxing just to get through a few eps at a time.have a great week ahead mate.
Thanks mate. I swear the countryside keeps me sane...ish.
Great video Gareth , beautiful landscape! 😍
Thank you!
Just a few miles downstream. Spent many a summer as a kid jumping off redbrook railway bridge into the river whilst my parents and their friends were sat outside the pub. Good times.
Thats the next episode, mate. From Redbrook to Tintern, and beyond, through the tunnel. Awesome place.
@@IckeWalks Looking forward to it. My dad was born in a house next to the river in Brockweir and remembers riding the line as a kid.
another smasher of a video , great music for the intro too, very welsh
Thanks, mate!
Great video Gareth. On the back of your Snailbeach video I booked and went on the leadmine tour down to the Perkins tunnel level. About a 2 hour tour in all. Absolutely amazing mate!
Oh fantastic! That sounds great. I do love me a lead mine.

Jeez im ready for a return down there already. FOD & S Wales is a minefield of choices.
Oh absolutely mate!
Amazing, you were literally on my door step . I love your videos even though I'm not that interested in trains . Would have bought you guys a pint if I had spotted you outside Lidl.
It's a lovely place, mate.
I reckon by then we would had accepted your offer as we had been travelling/walking since 7am and still had a few hours to go !
🙂 I'm looking forward to the next part of this walk .
Have a great summer.
Re Beeching. It was healthcare and other services vs railways losing vast sums of money because there was disruptive technology called cars and lorries and few people using railways. Beeching simply had a job to do which needed government approval to implement.
Maybe a series on light railways and their history?
So many light railways out there. The older ones are difficult to trace, if in Industrial area's, but we do cover some from time to time.
Definitely worth it, mate.
Hi Phil. I was thinking more like existing restored ones running. Btw.. You do an awesome job with Gareth mate!
@@incognitoguy5599 Cheers mate. Its a joint effort, really. I tend to take a bit of a back seat and let Gareth do all the talking 😃 I do like Narrow guage lines, though. Running ones included.
