- Check out these amazing abandoned old slaughter houses hidden beneath the streets of Monmouth along the river bank. They were built in around 1834 and have been abandoned since the 60's. Beautiful buildings with untouched original features.
I enjoyed watching this, I have read somewhere that the first 3 slaughterhouses were used as air raid shelters for the school that was directly above and across the street - there many have been a tunnel at some point going to that but I'm not certain - there are many underground tunnels in Monmouth but unfortunately they are inaccessible and blocked up.
I didn't know that, i wish i knew at the time. I looked up the history on it but couldn't find much at all. Its nice to know though, I had a feeling those tunnels wit back further. Thank you for the information, thanks for watching.
Very unique find mate!
Thank you : )
I live in Monmouth most people don’t go down there as they say it’s haunted or stuff and if I were you I wouldn’t go down there at night!
Lol So do I, and we don't... it's full of kids. Smoking and skiving school... 20 years ago I was one of them. In the last few years, there have been talks about renovating them into a promenade but the cost of structural surveys and the potential repairs required was seen as a "can of worms" by Monmouthshire County Council.
@@sebastianwcalland3693 that would be great if they did
Great bit of hidden history , thank you .
Its a shame its hidden but its an amazing place, thank you for watching.
Fantastic, I'm surprised I didn't know about this ~ Sam .W
I had no idea about it myself, someone wrote to me and told me about them being there so just drove up to take a look. They are up the top of the town underneath the museum. Check them out they are quite interesting.
Lovely video my friend i realy like it :)
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
very cool
Thank you :)
Such a weird place, never seen a slaughterhouse in an area like that! Really interesting video :)
yes it is a bit of a strange place but the market used to be directly above so in those days in 1834 it was easier for them, thanks for watching.
Thank you for a really interesting video x
Yes theres a lot of interesting stuff down there. Its such a shame that its been hidden for years. I can imagine it could make some nice trendy wine bars as it is in the town. Or it should be protected.
Now that is a great idea. x
you find some really interesting places
Thank you. You too.
Wicked - thumbs up 👍🏻
Thank you.
I love in Monmouth

Yes Monmouth is a lovely place...full of history.
I, unfortunately did a seance in this place, a very long time ago... Put it this way... It was the last one I ever did... 👹
Crikey, Ive literally just walked the dog along there on my own!
@@sharonsquire3971 ..lol...it was a long time ago,I'm sure it's a lovely place now .....🥴
Cool Romanesque architecture! I have less difficulty to envision it as a wine vault or a mushroom farm. Two uses this place would be excellent for if fully refurbished. How about the upper section? You cannot explore it?
9:40 I side with you in this one. It certainly served to create cooked meats like blood sausages. It requires a long cooking process to sterilize the entrails and blood accordingly.
I didn't know that Brits call these blood pudding. Funny name.
The upper building is now a museum. They could make these into trendy wine bars. Which i think would be great along there. But keep the old original features in them. Thank you for watching.
Wouldn't that have been a rendering vat? Think beef tallow for candle making.
I'm not really sure, it's a bit of a new one on me.
Hey CollidingPlanets Exploring, I have a question! What camera do you use for recording?
I used a Panasonic Lumix 20-1200 60 x optical zoom. Thanks for watching.
Dayum, great videos btw! Thanks for coming to my home town!

what an amazing spot you guna spent the night there at 1k ? hhahahaha sucks they threw waste in the river
I don't know about spending the night there...its creepy enough in the day...lol. I think the homeless stay there at night. Yes they used to throw all the blood and guts into the river back in the day. I think its because they didn't have fridges on those days lol.
