- Another day, another disused railway explore.
Phil and myself are in Gloucestershire to explore a section of the Wye Valley Railway, just across the Welsh border from our last stomp in Monmouth.
We start off at the site of Redbrook station (Which I call Drybrook at one point for absolutely no reason), before heading across a former railway bridge that spans the River Wye, and into Wales.
Before carrying on down the trackbed towards Tintern we take a short detour into Redbrook to take a look at an incline bridge of an 1812 tramway, that preceded the railway by many years.
Then we head down to Tintern where we explore the incredibly restored Tintern station, before climbing into Tintern tunnel, and taking a look.
We end the walk by following another tramway that crossed back over the River Wye into the village of Tintern itself.
Beautiful scenery and plenty of incredible remains to be found on this one.

Perfect timing, mate!
@@IckeWalks 😂😁😁😁😁
Again great video! Always love to see the excitement from both of you! ❤️
Also the Sugar part 😂
Thank you!
Spent many a summer back in the late 70s jumping off Redbrook bridge walkway "No health and safety back then" into the river as my parents and their friends sat in that pub. My dad was born in one of the riverbank houses in Brockweir half a mile up from the station and remembers catching the train there as a kid. My favourite part of the world. Thanks for that.👍
It's a lovely area. Definitely tempting the Boat Inn!
Trains, trams, bridges and beautiful nature. I imagine there was far more connectivity for the local people than today. Probably on time and cheaper too.
100%! I think people just had more respect for themselves, and each other.
Brilliant video, as they all are, thank you😊
Thank you very much!
Fantastic video yours n Phil’s knowledge awesome hope you Phil and gang well ❤❤
Cheers, mate.
@@IckeWalks your welcome it was also impressive how you and Phil avoided stacking it was interesting seeing those semaphore signals and signal box very rare to see old signals still standing let alone distant signal showing clear aspect
Nice one! Great explore!
Cheers!
Nice area. I walk in walking boots all year round. Can never rely on dry soil in the UK. Always a puddle or boggy bit. 😂
I need to learn this!
Loving the intro music. I’m a few seconds in so, let’s go guys……👍
Thought it needed some energy!
This must surely be saved under your ‘nugget’ list!
Getting to know Phil over many months of your videos I’ve grown very fond of him, his knowledge is amazing. If he doesn’t know the answer he will give us an educated guess from his knowledge. Thank you Gareth for your love/knowledge of the railway system, nature and for human life. 🙏
@@jaynegrace4541 Hah , thanks. I reckon educational guess's are a vital requirement on some of these walks we do !
So much to see in this episode, the signal in the trees was interesting. Were the carriages used in any way? I sometimes go to sleep to rain and thunder, totally get that. Interesting mentioning King Offa, I read a book a while ago where he was mentioned. That look again made me chuckle. Good one again.
They used to have camping carriages there, but I think these ones are newer and only there for decoration. Be great if it was an air bob or the like, though!
@IckeWalks that's a good idea!
On the subject of my awful accent gagg in the tunnel, I should have offered 'It int in tin in Tintin' which translates as 'It isnt in the Tin in Tintern' 😂😂
Say that ten times quickly.
Enjoyed the accent gagg Phil!
GWR loco's were right hand drive approaching a left curve signals were on wrong side for sighting reasons
Ah! Nice they're still there, though. Even if they're in the wrong place!
Blimey, another video. Is it going to be one a day? 😂. Evening sorted again.
Haha. I have 5 in the bag waiting to be edited!
Your visit to snailbeach has inspired me to visit the area. I love black and white photos and as you were walking around the site, I could see pictures in my mind.
@@andrewcrisp9391 It is lovely round this part of the world mate.
