- I'm with Phil again, and this time, we're in Herefordshire.
We're exploring a 17 mile stretch of the former Hereford, Ross and Gloucester Railway, between Hereford, and Ross on Wye, to see what remains we can find.
We found plenty.
We start on the outskirts of Hereford at the former site of ROF Rotherwas, where we explore a former WW2 munitions factory.
From there we follow the trackbed south to Holme Lacy station, before climbing into Ballingham Tunnel, and taking a look at Ballingham station.
We then follow the line as it weaves along the River Wye, finding multiple viaduct remains, before hitting Ross on Wye, where we find the goods shed, and even gain access to film inside the former engine shed, now a garden centre.
Loads to find, and the weather was positively Mediterranean, which always helps.

Beautiful part of the world
I really enjoyed that. Great little railway adventure that. It’s a gorgeous part of the world anyway.
Really is mate.
A full day is needed for this, Ste, & the stretch down to Monmouth is even more scenic.
another excellent video nice one gaz, lovely to see some clear skies for a change to and a nice bit of sunshine,
Thanks mate. Got lucky for sure.
Nice sunny day, it beats the thunderstorm where I was yesterday. Skegness...go there every week...fab as always thank you
Thank you. Pretty grim where I am now, too.
Thanks for the upload i enjoyed the video.
Fantastic video as always hope you Phil and gang well was awesome Phil being able to get you to film old engine shed even without any tracks very iconic

Nice one Gaz! I’ve only just started watching, but I’m commenting now coz I’ve literally been eying this up for me sen, dam you lol! Great part of the world. I love it down there. Anyway I’ll carry on watching. I’m just at the cows watching telly part haha
Great trek and followed with a glorious beer.
It's the law.
As a hiker myself I agree that it is the law.
Done most of the Bowes incline today it was brutal, and rewarding. Kept thinking the Walk would like this stretch, there's allot of preserved lines and rail heritage
Need to get to the NE for sure.
One of my faves of recent treks. Weather helped, of course, but so much to see and all picturesque. Could have spent much more time but i reckon we managed a good overview. We will try do a follow up down to Gloucester and the stretch to Monmouth sooner or later. The Wye Valley south from Ross in a stunnner.
Thanks for helping us along on our journey of life
Definitely, mate.
Looked like jurrasic Park in places. Beautiful
"Velociraptor on the line"
Cool...
Those sheds were all part of the Hereford munitions en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ROF_Rotherwas
