- Welcome out on another explore.
This time I am joined by Phil, Ande, and Ande’s lad, Jake.
We’re in the historical city of Nottingham in the east midlands of England, and we’ve come to have an explore of the famous Castle Cemetery.
Known locally as ‘Rock’ Cemetery, the thirteen acre site was build in 1856 inside a disused sandstone quarry.
The area was once where the city’s public executions took place, and so this part of Nottingham has for the last few hundred years, been overwhelmingly connected with death.
Many great industrialists, politicians, architects and the cream of Nottingham’s high society are buried here, with each grave grander and larger, than the next.
But there is an area within the cemetery called ‘The Paupers Pit’ and sadly, it's exactly what it says on the tin. Around the end of the 1800s Nottingham, had become so impoverished that many could not afford a funeral, or a gravestone, and so they were merely thrown into the paupers pit, often more than twenty to a grave.
Just in this small paupers section of Rock Cemetery, 20,000 bodies lay, with the youngest age inscription reading ‘five minutes’.
Heartbreaking.

Thank goodness us ‘paupers’ have a much more dignified burial today!
I won’t lie, I adore a walk around a cemetery so truly enjoyed this video.
Thanks guys. 👍
Thank you!
OOo interesting, I do like to roam the graveyards on occasion, in the Old Cem where I grew up all the headstones are stood in a row near the wall now. I like exploring, graveyards on occasion. Thank you
Yeah there is definitely something about them.
This series is fantastic!
Thank you very much!
Re -wilding just looks like another way of burying the past and re writing history to fit a narrative . I'd be pretty sure there are some secrets under that area that someone wants left undisturbed for now . Great vid Gareth
Maybe right.
This guy looks like a Chad David Icke.
Eh up Gaz, great little vid. Very interesting. We almost went here last weekend after we’d been to Bramcote.
There is a vibe there, mate. Right up your street!
Its a bit of a joke that the everyday folk get booted out at 6pm but the 'happy campers' are free to roam 24/7 🤔 No doubt aided and abetted by the near harvest conditions in certain parts of the site.
That was ace. Can’t wait to explore this 👍🏻
Cheers!
I hope you kind gentlemen got the young lady over the wall too! Fascinating vid Gareth 😊
We walked around back to the corner, and Phil used his arms as a foothold, and I climbed on top of an electricity box with Jake, to pull her over. Alls well that ends well!
@@IckeWalks nice one!
