      ***** this is one of the easiest squares there is, and I hope you will be able to do it (especially if you never crocheted before) - if it will be hard in the beginning - have someone show you chain stitch, double crochet stitch, single crochet stitch and slip stitch..... or just simply watch the video many times, until it will make a sense... some people can train ("wire") their brain for crochet and knitting fast, some much slower... I wish you the best luck with this new hobby - I love it - it is my passion (that and my art hahaha) and it makes me very happy!!!

    This is a great video. Thank-you for being so generous and posting it.For those who are new to crochet, if you run your cursor over the bottom of the video, there is what looks like a cog or a circle with teeth around it like a sun. Click on it and you will find that you have the choice to change the speed of the video. I hope this helps anyone who is having trouble following along.

      +snow fleas - your comment deserves billion of thumbs up - WHAT A GREAT INPUT FOR YOUR FELLOW KNITTERS AND CROCHETERS!!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH - I think I need to make a video about that :-) so people understand completely

      +Bronislava Slagle (HandmadeRukodelky) Thank-you for your response. I only with I could remember where I saw this helpful hint so that I could give credit where it is due.
      Also, when I am following along trying to crochet with a video, all awkward and such with my hands full of yarn and hook, it is easier for me to tap on the space bar to stop and start the video. This is another hint that I picked up from the comments section. It is so much easier than trying to manage the mouse.

      Bronislava Slagle, is it possible to continue this and make it into a blanket or do you have to make square and then sew them together?

    • @HandMadeRukodelky
      @HandMadeRukodelky  9 лет назад

      ronniesgirl0705 Absolutely, you can continue in the same manner where you add those extra stitches in the corners until you make one giant square. But, if you would like rectangle, then you would have to make two squares (of a desired width) and then attach them together... then you could crochet a border around - even just a simple one to give it a finished look...

    Thank you for this very easy, simple pattern. I have crocheted basic blankets and never made granny/blanket squares. I have watched 4 different videos, *tried* to read directions (it's as if it's in a different language) and have unraveled many squares and started over! I got very frustrated. I successfully completed a square that I am happy with thanks to you and it even makes sense!

    I’ve watched other videos on this square and they came out awful for me. I love this one. The double crochet is my favorite. Plus I like how you chain 3 giving more space in the corners compared with other patterns I’ve seen.

      Denice Salinas that is wonderful... if it doesn't look great, frog it (take it apart) and make it again - I bet the next one is going to be looking much better.... crochet with video again, it will make more sense the second time around... good luck and share your blanket when you are done... I finaly took images of my finished blanket and will be posting it to my blog :-)

    Hi love your video so easy to follow, 1 question when u go into 1st stitch to make it round is it the slip stitch or 1st stitch after that. Sorry daft question really x

    • @HandMadeRukodelky
      @HandMadeRukodelky  6 лет назад

      excellent question - if you make a chain first and you need to connect it into a circle you need to place your hook into your very first chain stitch and make a slip st = pull yarn through the first stitch and the stitch on your hook... then you continue making your first row starting with ch3 - I hope this helps

    oh at last a teacher that I can learn from, I would like to know what size hook and type of yarn to start with please, I am on the fast track learning grannie squares, my first grand child is due in 4 months, and would love to have made a blankie for her.xx

    • @HandMadeRukodelky
      @HandMadeRukodelky  8 лет назад

      +T Brouwer you can use any yarn you want, but make sure you have enough of it because crochet takes a lot of yarn... Sometimes you can see on the label an image of the blanket and on the inside you can see pother and also it will tell you how many balls of yarn you need, the size of the hook is usually recommended by a manufacturer - it is written on the label (look for a couple of small squares). I would suggest to crochet with worsted yarn, because if you're not used to crocheting the thicker yarn will be better for you to manage and also you will finish your blanket faster.
