I've been gaming these irons for the last year and have had some of my best rounds with them. I'm around a 12-13 hcp and shoot in the mid-80s depending on the course with a few rounds in the mid/high 70s. I've only been golfing 4 years but live in San Diego and practice and play year round. I have tried out about a dozen sets of irons until landing on the Ping i525s and can say they are as forgiving as people say but you can also work the ball more vs a cavity back. My only gripe is when I pure one out the middle (usually off the tee or when sitting up in the rough) and it seems to trampoline off the hollow body. I usually hit my 6 iron about 165-170 and have hit shots 180+ off the tee. Same with the 5 iron. Generally 170-180 and have driven it almost 200 with a teed up shot which puts me in a bad spot. That said, you'll also get a few more yards when you don't get it right, so it probably averages out over time. You'll definitely remember the trampoline effect shots and wonder how you bombed it so far. Maybe it's because I have 105g Project X shafts, but the 4 iron sounds and feels very tinny, almost like a hybrid. So you may want to just play a 4 hybrid and get the U-5 iron set vs P-4.
I currently play the Titleist 714 AP2's which I do like. After 8 years playing with these it was time for an upgrade. Now in my mid 60's it was time to get something more forgiving and give me the distance I have lost. The Ping i525 fit the bill. After trying numerous other brands these were the ones that fitted me best. I ordered the set and look forward to putting these irons in play for the next 8 years.
It’s been 7months since you posted. How have the i525’s performed? I’ve just turned 60 and have the AP2’s as well , just like you did. Lost distance and need forgiveness. May I ask what colour spec you went with. If I look at Pings chart I’m around the Green dot area.? Shaft ? I was using a Project X rifle 6.0 in my AP2’s. Did you go with the power lofts, the stronger ones?
Just played my best 2 rounds of the summer first weekend with them in the bag!!! They are really confidence inspiring. Coming from blades that I wasn’t quite good enough to play with… wish I had these in the spring. They are super long. They go miles high! I don’t care what anyone says about the spin. I was backing these up into pins the last 2 days! Great review!!! They are perfect for me
Im a 10 handicap, I upgraded from ping G15s to i500s and honestly cant fault them. Tried the G410 and the I210s aswell but the i500 felt the best of the 3 for me. I've seen a couple reviews mention the sound but ive never noticed an issue.
The i210 feel way better than the i500 and as a high swing speed player that 105 gram stock shaft in the i500 felt like trash to me. Maybe better shafts woulda been better
Good too see ping pricing irons back in the realm of reality (even though it hurts as someone considering the I59's). Really though why are the I59's priced so absurdly high.....
For the 2024 season intend new irons. I am a 12-13 hcp. I tied and purchased the TM stealth 2 irons but returned them within 3 weeks to many flier and they went way to far. I tried some Wilson Staff, titelist, and he TM790. I don’t know what it was but the ping i525 felt the best for me so I purchased them 5-UW. This is my first set of Ping clubs and they have been great for me. For my swing they are excellent and I have no problem stopping them on th green using UW-7i. I am not worried about looks or sound I look for performance and these definitely perform. If you are looking for new clubs check these out even in 24 or 25 they may be great for you.
I ordered some i210s last July and still waiting for them. Currently expected second week of march. Glad to see they've been able to make new irons despite not meeting orders from 6 months ago
I’d cancel ASAP! Bro, you could have been playing with something else already! 😂😂😂 Personally, I’ve switched from Ping everything to Callaway everything because of horror stories like yours.
In my opinion the best guy on RUclips at testing golf equipment whether it be clubs, balls etc. Always worth watching and taking on board his honest opinion, great video James 👏👏
I must admit that a softer and responsive feel is what I prefer. I've played PING G30 before and they were good performance wise. But I ended switching to Srixon Z585 irons which perform just as good but feel much better (which is always subjective, of course).
Ping has always been a club that was just out of my reach. But when I first started playing they were the club to beat. I've used other players Pings and loved them. I welcome a chance to try or test these newer ones. Thanks.
I’m late to the party, but just tried and ordered i525 5, 6, 7, and look forward to enjoying a mixed bag of those, and 7-U of i210’s. Loving your videos in Chicago.
Ordered the i525 a week ago paired with true temper elevate shafts shortened 1/2” with mid size grips. Came In only 6 days!!! Liked them better than the p790s and titleist t200s
I'm currently gaming Ping i500. I am firmly of the opinion the Feel of a club has a "Honeymoon period" that wears off and they all feel the same in the end. Don't get me wrong, I love Forged because it's adjustable, but Ping have their Dot System and it works. I'm keen to try these...
I'll have to demo these but I have to say I'm a bit skeptical that they improved the clicky tingy sound of the i500. Thanks James for the very honest comments and the end of the video about the feel and spin. If you want to chase distance then these are up there with the looks. (Or you could just get a set of Wilson D6 crazy loft irons for a lot less money and just as much if not more distance!) By the way.... G710 ???? Wonder where that line is going ?
On holiday at the moment in Florida. Just bought a set!!!! 5 to pw. Plus 2 wedges. Looking forward to trying them out on the course. Have to say. In the sim they felt fantastic!!
Great review James! Looks like Ping has a real winner on their hands! I really like the i500 and now i525 irons! So much so, that I just bought my daughter, yesterday, a lightly used set of i500s! It will hopefully be an upgrade from her previous G700 irons. (Less offset and thinner soles) Makes me wonder if the price would have dropped a bit today! 😡
They look great to me. I have a set of the G425 irons and love them. Very forgiving clubs that launch high. Sound is irrelevant to me, sound doesn’t affect the flight of the ball.
do you find they carry too far? I've never gravitated toward strong lofted irons because it never seems like you can get good gappings between clubs. I hit my standard lofted 7iron 170 so the thought of hitting it 190 with strong lofted just doesn't seem necessary. I also worried about low ball flight with them too, but you say you don't have an issue with that which is pretty cool/unexpected imo
Long time Ping user - Karsten III onwards. Had the I500s. Swapped to Mizuno 921 forged. Lovely feel on the 921, but I do like the looks of the 500 series.
Looks is one thing. I agree with you there. But if you ever hit the i500 in comparison with the feel of the 921 Forged like I have I bet you will not shell out $200 / club USD for the looks. JPX line will get you the distance with feel and accuracy. The new Mizuno 225 (HMB next gen) takes the 921 Forged tech and merges it into the old HMB head but with improved topline, size as well as 30 deg loft 7 iron for distance. You should demo both but I tell you the 921 Forged is very sweet IMHO !
@@JohnnyDSR It's a bit of a shame John, that golf manufacturers bring out new clubs so often. They sort of make me feel like a bit of a heel if you're playing anything older than 2 years. Played most Ping models at one time or another, and 410s and 500s were turned into 921 forged and this fine set will do me for the next good while. Bobby Jones hit it 250 in 1922 with a $5 driver and they only hit it 300 a hundred years later with a $1,000AUD driver - price increase has not matched performance?
Have the i210s had them for a few years now. Find it insane Ping have never replaced them. Basically saying they can't improve them so they basically aren't just pushing after profit!
I played the eye 2 in high school, the Zing and Zing 2 and ISI in college, the eye 3 in the early 2000’s and the s 59s. My last set was the G series and in all of them the on center hits were good the off center hits were sharp feeling. I just bought the i525s and with technology I think the feel should be just fine.
What you said about ping irons and feel, I bought a set of ping eye blue dot off a friend about 10 years ago. I played ok with them, but they felt like junk. I replaced them after about 2 years. I’m not the best golfer, but I am very sensitive to feel. I can’t get new clubs very often, but I’m always searching for golf balls I like the feel of since I can’t afford to lose proV1’s and I can’t always get the same ball depending on the store I go to.
Great review James. I did play the i500s for a couple of years and got on well with them (even if the feel was a little hard), however, every now and again for reasons I can’t explain I’d get a shot that flew 10-15 yards more than it should and that for me was the biggest drawback. I’ve since switched to Callaway’s hollow body Apex Pro which both feel so much more playable and consistent. I’d definitely give the new club a go (and the fitting experience at Ping is awesome) but unless they have fixed that rouge flyer I doubt I’d be changing
Had a not dissimilar issue with Mizuno HMB’s. Moved to MP20- MB’s which are all about consistency of distance control and no occasional shots flying 10-15 yards further than expected!
Nice job on the review. I just bought this set 4-pw on sale for $1000us and I feel like they're soft, but I have always played a cheaper cast set of clubs too. I shall be trying these asap just wish i new when a new I210 might be released to blend in with the I525's as spin at the lower end of the bag might well be needed by the looks. Great review again JR. I also love the "VLOG LOL" just desserts for your hard work and pioneering.
Is testing in February on seasonal greens which wil be harder a true test for stopping power , will be interesting to see spin numbers versus other sets indoors
Interesting....im an i210 player and is am looking for a longer iron. May bend my 210's to power spec and stick with them! Couldnt get past the feel of the i500.
James I currently game the i59’s and love them. I also just purchased a second hand set of i210’s 3-UW for $500USD which I thought was a great deal after trying a buddies on the sim as a backup set. What is your favorite Ping iron of the past few years that you could see yourself playing as everyday gamers? I know you love your Mizuno’s but just curious.
When reviewing clubs, I assume you get the standard steel shafts from which ever company send them to you. However, do you get the regular, stiff or XS flex normally?
I play i210s and whilst I could benefit from the extra forgiveness of the i525 they are not for me. Spin is low, not excessively, but lower than I prefer. Then there is an issue about gapping, there is a 5 degree gap between some irons which feels a bit too much. Finally are these better are even equal to the performance of competitors such P770s
A very good review! Those are fine looking irons! I would note that Ping sent the 5-7-9 to Andy Sullivan -- I wonder who received the pitching wedge? :)
James. JPX 923 and i525 and jpx923 I am looking for more straight and consistent irons with light weight shafts due to my ages. Which do you recommend for fifties, single handy cap golfer?
James I enjoyed the video on the new Ping I525 irons did the irons have strong lofts because I would really like to see you play them with the retro lofts and hears your thoughts as compared to the strong lofts or if retro lofts how would you feel playing strong lofts and seeing the difference between the two irons?
They look fantastic, and hopefully the feel and touch improvement over the i500s make these a big tick 😀 Btw get together with Mark C...he was sent the odd numbers so you'd have a full set 👌👍

Love the look of these clubs, currently gaming G410s but the look of those alone could tempt me to upgrade. Can't fault Ping
Need to test these against the Mizuno 225s.....please!!!!
Small flex showing the Aston in the intro 💪🏼🤣
James ------ Quick fire question... You can put these in the bag or the new Mizuno Pro 225, which do you choose?
Interesting....im an i210 player and is am looking for a longer iron. May bend my 210's to power spec and stick with them! Couldnt get past the feel of the i500.
James I currently game the i59’s and love them. I also just purchased a second hand set of i210’s 3-UW for $500USD which I thought was a great deal after trying a buddies on the sim as a backup set. What is your favorite Ping iron of the past few years that you could see yourself playing as everyday gamers? I know you love your Mizuno’s but just curious.
Such a good looking club.
From your description they seem to be like the taylormade irons minus being forged
So these or the TM stealth?
I have the 420s not bad by my standards.
Getting out the Aston? Yeah boi!
What handicap range would you say these were for James ? thanks
Great video James. Who are the 525 aim for? Mid to high handicapper!
Yes mate defo
Nice looking Irons, that remind me of the PXG 0211's
A very good review! Those are fine looking irons! I would note that Ping sent the 5-7-9 to Andy Sullivan -- I wonder who received the pitching wedge? :)
Need to see these up against P790s
James.
JPX 923 and i525 and jpx923
I am looking for more straight and consistent irons with light weight shafts due to my ages. Which do you recommend for fifties, single handy cap golfer?
How would you rate them compared to Chris’ powerbats?
We filmed that this afternoon. Lots of fun. Coming soon
Looks cracking. Would be interested to see how they compare to the forged Tec of Chris's. Are they in the same bracket of club?
Well done James 👏
Nice video enjoying content keep it up
Thanks mate
James I enjoyed the video on the new Ping I525 irons did the irons have strong lofts because I would really like to see you play them with the retro lofts and hears your thoughts as compared to the strong lofts or if retro lofts how would you feel playing strong lofts and seeing the difference between the two irons?
What handicap do you think these irons suit best James?
They look lovely
Ping isn’t my favorite but these irons look nice
Looking forward to next iteration of the i210
The look so much better than expected. Don’t like all those grooves. Strong lofts need to be matched carefully to wedges and hybrids.
James, great video. Would you say these offer m ore forgiveness than the Callaway Apex CF16?
Nice looking irons is there still a wainting time on ping orders just putting it out there as I’ve heard that people are waiting a while on orders
How do they stack up against the p790’s?
They look fantastic, and hopefully the feel and touch improvement over the i500s make these a big tick 😀
Btw get together with Mark C...he was sent the odd numbers so you'd have a full set 👌👍
I think it’s finally time to retire my Ping I/3’s… thanks for the update 😜
Are you using a new camera today as the footage looks so much crisper?
Great review , really fair 👍
