    So, ignoring his "looks" category (because it is completely subjective) the actual rankings would be:
    Joint 1st: Ping & Callaway (19 points)
    3rd: Mizuno (17 points)
    4th: Kirkland (16 points)
    Joint 5th: Cobra & Taylormade (13 points)
    If you then also ignore the price (if money isn't an object to you) the rankings would be:
    1st: Ping (17 points)
    2nd: Callaway (16 points)
    3rd: Mizuno (13 points)
    Joint 4th: Kirkland & Taylormade (10 points)
    6th: Cobra (8 points)

    I've just picked up my P770's today. Always go for a fitting and never go solely on RUclips reviews. I hit the CW apex Ai200 irons furthest and had a faster club head speed but a wide dispersion. The Ping i530's were ok, not the furthest and not the best grouping. I tried the P790's but didn't get on with them, did ok with P7CB's but the P770's had the best dispersion by far and a consistent distance. Never buy blind and never go in with your heart and mind set, try everything and really try lots of shafts because I found that made the most difference.

    • @johnpetolillo288
      @johnpetolillo288 Месяц назад +2

      Couldn’t agree more with that statement. It’s all what works with your swing. I went for my first ever fitting and got fit into the P790s. Hit them great and very consistent with dispersion. Thought going in I was getting fit into the Pro 245 but my swing didn’t get along with them for some reason. Hit a bunch of different irons but the P790s were the clear winner for me. Got fit into a heavier shaft as well which I was kind of shocked with

      @johnpetolillo288 my old shafts were KBS Tour x stiff 130 and I just couldn't hit them anymore. I'm now using a Dynamic Gold Stiff 115 and it's made a world of difference. I honestly believe it's more about the shafts than the heads there days.

    • @johnpetolillo288
      @johnpetolillo288 Месяц назад +1

      @@craigpusey4733 Absolutely, Shafts play a huge part. The head is more or less of what you are comfortable with at address to an extent. I think the shaft is more important. My current gamers (well old ones now) JPX 923 Hot Metals have KBS Tour Lites Stiff flex in them. To my surprise, I was fit into a heavier shaft but a regular flex. Here I thought I would be fit into a lighter flex. By being fit into the heavier shaft, it shrunk my dispersion circle a lot and I was hitting much more consistent shots. Was definitely surprised with that.

    Entertaining content as always, but yet again a complete absence of Srixon products. The ZX series irons have consistently won praise, accolades and positive feedback from around the golfing community. They've won awards and have consistently been reviewed as some of the best irons on the market for mid handicappers (ZX5) and lower handicap golfers (ZX7). Having followed Rick and his channels and podcast for years, Srixon is never mentioned to the point where they're conspicuous by their absence. I can only assume that there's some kind of embargo or cease and desist which leads to Srixon never being mentioned or tested alongside other leading (or DTC) brands, including Driver, FW, irons, wedges and balls. Although I seem to remember Rick testing the Z Star years ago, but that's about it. As a fan of the channel, a listener to the podcast series since day one and a huge fan of golf I'd love Rick or Guy to at least comment on why. I'm fairly sure I'm not the only one thinking this.

  • @bobpegram8042
    @bobpegram8042 Месяц назад +5

    Because all of the irons hit hit the ball within a 5 yard variance, it seems distance should rated way lower than accuracy. Accuracy problems will cost way more shots than slight distance differences, especially since the distance differences don't matter as much once the golfer knows what distance each club hits. To put it in a more extreme way, a shorter hitting golfer who is very accurate will usually beat a longer hitter who has accuracy problems, assuming equal ball striking skill levels. Looks are somewhat personal so those should be weighted less as well. I agree on the weighting of price and feel. Summary: Accuracy should be weighted double. Price and feel as is. Price varies by a golfer's economic status so each golfer will weight that differently. Distance and looks weighted half. If the distance differences were more extreme, then I would say weighted full. Takomo's should have been included as others have said. I would buy the 201s if I were in the market for irons. Mine are old - 2011 (old lofts like blades). They are the head model Furyk used to shoot 58 (Callaway RAZR X Forged). I didn't know that when I bought them used from Callaway pre-owned.

    I think you missed the boat on two factors. First and Foremost, the number one factor for all golfers is accuracy yet all factors were equally weighted. So Rick answer the question, which would you rather do, hit the green or put the ball into the gorse but look good doing it and save a tenner per club? The Second Factor was you left our Srixon and you left out Takomo but included Kirkland. The weakness of Kirkland is you can't get the lie adjusted or the shaft shortened or the shaft upgraded but Takomo can be had with many upgrades and adjustments. For 2025 the competition include all brands, maybe 2 first rounds: first of off brands then big brands then a final.

    It's good to see reviews on clubs but it's not the be all and end of the search for new clubs. I recently had a full iron fitting and tried the i530's the Callaway and p790's, also zx5 and t200. Initially the T200 and i530 offered the best performance but once we started interchanging shafts it changed completely. The p790's stood out by far, the best in launch, disbursement and feel. So while these reviews are good they are no guarantee that the club that comes 1st or 2nd will be the right club for you. Go get properly fitted to avoid massive disappointment. And just before I get any negatives, I am an avid Rick supporter, Pete and James too!

    I'm not one to ever usually criticise Rick but how on Earth can you score clubs using the same criteria on distance only when the lofts are significantly different? Granted the looks category is subjective but I'd give Rick a pass on that but there's no way you can score a club low on distance when it's basically up against a club at least 1 club stronger in loft 🤣
    As I say though, Rick is still by far the best RUclipsr to go to when I'm looking at changing anything, obviously I get fitted etc but I like to see what his thoughts are.
    FWIW My greatest ever golf purchase to date is my TaylorMade p790's where, ironically I got fitted for at Rick's old stomping ground, Trafford Golf Centre, outstanding iron's 👍

    I own Kirkland's and Apeks CF16s, Kirkland's would now be the better iron set, for feel, distance and accuracy. Very happy with them.
    I expected the 115gram shaft to be away too heavy but no, fine, I went reg flex too, and see no issue opting for a soft feel and a higher launch, I would almost compress my shots too much.
    Critics would be the shafts are 1/2 too short, so had to buy extensions just make standard length. But wear is excellent 30 full rounds and look like brand new. ( Apeks marked up after 3 rounds!)

    Dispersion would be a better criteria than accuracy; given potential differences in weighing of clubhead and shaft or offset differences.... But all in all, much appreciated since this is my market as a firmly mid golfer.

    Looks have always been a weird one for me as a reason to buy a specific club.
    Older, more experienced golfers love the thin, bladed look because that’s what they grew up with associating with great players.
    I’d be really interested to see what a new or younger player thinks of the looks of a comparative set like this. Someone without that bias. I have a feeling it would be very different.

    I think when buying irons you would want to know the distance dispersion as well as the accuracy left and right of target. I would want to know the percentage of shots that hit the same distance not an average distance. Forgiveness is important too so I would want to know how the club performs from slightly off-centre hits. Not many mid-handicap players strike their irons perfectly all the time.

    Rick, cheers again for the reviews. Love the relaxed style of the videos.
    I know you're trying to keep the testing fair but you're not doing a large enough sample size to account for your inconsistency. Preferably you'd need to use Robot swing testing for the relative performance part of the review. Otherwise you're giving mis-information concerning the performance of each club & that produces unneccessary turmoil in someone's purchase decisions.
