These look amazing. I did have i200s last year and there is no denying they make great clubs. Getting properly fitted for a set like this will be the key.
Great video, love the on course review, those simulators give data but on course is where it's at to really see & hear the performance, and visualize. good job.
Have owned these for a week now, popped over to Ping and had the lie angle changed and the lofts weakened by 1 degree all done while I waited and no charge for doing this !!!
Love my i210s but these look great. Will be trying them for sure
From a Mizuno iron player I love the look of these. Ping my be the most underrated OEM
Great review.
I’m using the G410 but thinking seriously about these.I have to say they look very nice.
Great looking set of irons, Played Ping for years, then switched to Calloway. May have to take another look at ping.
Next Video Andy - Ping i525 vs Mizuno Pro 225? Do it. Just picked up the 225’s yesterday. Great feel and a gorgeous club. Your review helped me choose them. Cheers Andy !
I just realised those images of the clubs are not from Ping. It's maple syrup sweet camera work, and the review is gravey. Thanks to you both.
Nice looking Irons from PING, with a PXG 0211 vibe
Interesting definitely worth a try
Bro, you have moved into my favorite person to review clubs. Our swings and results seem to align perfectly. I am excited to try these as my irons are 6 years old and would like something newer and a bit more than what I have. I play the Callaway CF 16 so would these be an upgrade. I will get fitted as want to try the p790 and a few others. But I am just a PING fan
If they’re available I guess I’ll add these to my iron fit in a couple of weeks
Nice review. I'll add the i525 to the list as a possibility.
Look nice, I wonder how they compare to mizuno pro 225, and new p790?
Really nice looking irons. How do they compare to the Callaway Apex21. Just your opinion. Thanks Andy.
Are these the ones - forged👌 prefer forged blade all way down to 7/8 but below that happy for a bit more help - short irons have to be soft as butter and consistent on length - will give these a go!
I’ve got these irons and love them
Hi, could you review the Takomo 101, 201. I would like to know your thoughts. Seen some reviews and seem impressive. 👍
Nice review Andy, would these be less or more forgiving than my i210s? Looking for a little more help these days, thx
With such a high trajectory, how do these irons perform in windy-ish conditions and can you flight them down when needed? Thanks!
Enjoy your reviews Andy as they have a reality check to them that we all need. Play 410’s at moment of hcp of 13.7. I note from a previous review you put the PXG gen 4’s in your bag. I am thinking of an upgrade and going to a ping fitting day where I can try 525 and i59. There is a local PXG testing nearby, would you advise trying those as well before making a jump to clubs that I would hope last me 5 years or more. I have always liked Ping as they get the best out of my half decent swing.
Cheers
Gary
I would always say try them if you have the chance, you have nothing to lose and can gauge against the new efforts from Ping
Nice review as always Andy seen James Robinsons review he hit some half swings into a couple of greens in his video and they ran straight through the green , your full shots had a better flight hight and decent into the greens . Would need to see some different shots but great looking clubs, I'd like to have a look a cobra king forge rec , taylormade 770 and pxg 2011
Some great choices out there Andrew
Hi Andy!!
Just curious. What do you think about the i525 short irons as far as trajectory, spin, consistency and feel? How are the short irons for pitches and chips? Thanks, Joe
Like the look of these irons. I would most certainly get the retro lofts. Like the idea of forgiveness but wouldn’t want the strong lofts.
How do you compare the i525 to the PXG gen5 irons
Hi do you use a regular or stiff shaft?
Good looking clubs . . . If I’m the market, I’d test them out
Been playing i200 irons for years now. Still haven’t found anything to better them for me. Custom fit by Ping, Titleist and Taylormade in past to confirm my spec.
Those TrackMan numbers don’t add up? Your smash factor is in the range of 1.55 no way, that is up there with the beast of the best professionals!
I love the look of these, but like you mentioned I'm curious about the gapping on a full set, power spec'd irons get a little dicey in a full set. I'm waiting to see if there will be a i210 upgrade this year before I can pull the trigger on any new clubs
Good call on the i210s
@@TheAverageGolfer have you heard and news about i210s in 2022?
Great video Andy. Could a mid handicap ~15 game these? Love the launch and gapping you’re getting with them!
I would say yes absolutely, I dont like categorising clubs by Hcp so I would definitely try them
If you get a traditional cavity back maybe 33 loft for 7 iron I go higher
which irons did you use , standard, power or retro designs
Just bought them. Seem amazing so far but you know how that goes. Been playing apex for the last year and never had ping due to the weird looks.
IMO the i500 were the forgotten club in the Ping range. The problem was that the competitor clubs were just better by just about any criteria to care to name. So, unlike my beloved i210s, a replacement was essential.
In looks the i525 are really pretty irons - but so are the Mizuno 225s, the P770 and Apex's.
In terms of numbers, they perform as I would expect. Great high launch and I see from other reviews the spin rate is a bit low for the loft, but not massively, so the peak height and descent angle should be enough to have control on the greens unless you play hard links courses in summer. The problem for me is the numbers are just about the same as every other iron in this category.
They are good irons, they are equivalent to the competitor irons (although I slightly prefer the looks of the P770s) so it comes down to price and these are expensive
I think you have this spot on Justin, competition is very high right now
They look very pretty but I've become wary of players distance irons and other hollow irons in short and mid irons because of the increased fliers. I think most golfers can play blades, cavity or dual cavity irons for these clubs.
I play PXG 0311 Gen3 p distance hollow body irons and I hear about these “flyers” but I personally have yet to get one with my irons.
The gap is very important from the 8 to 5 iron.
Sorry it too long to see this review. But just ordered them, replacing my Takamo 201's after 6 yrs. Yourself and James both agree on distance looks. Plus sound and feel.
Wish me luck ha
I have played ping irons for the majority of my golfing life but not the last 6 years. I will wait to see whenthe i210 replacements are released, if they are as good as these i525’s, that could be an excellent combo set. I currently play the ping 4 hybrid and I think it’s the best hybrid on the market. Excellent review Andy!
I'm waiting for Ping i20 replacements :)
@@MattieGriffin I was too, just traded in the i20s and decided to pull the trigger on these i525s. Just picked them up today, am excited for the weather to break so I can get out on the course.
Is Carden Park your home course? That would put you up just a bit south of Liverpool and Manchester. Question two: Have you ever tested Miura irons, specifically the TC-201s? As you mentioned that all or most of the hollow players distance irons like the Ping 525 and TM P790, even those that have forged elements, have that different feel and sound than solid forged irons, I would be very interested to hear you thoughts and reaction to the Miuras. Although forbiddingly expensive, they are said to be the absolute best and softest forgings.
Carden Park is where I film all (most) of my on course content and live 30 mins away. Never tried Miuras and would love to given the chance
Would love to see a head to head with the P790 Andy!
I am sure wont be too long!
I did a fitting today, hit multiple different irons, was really expecting to get fit into the G425s, hit G425s, Apex DCB, Mizuno 223, Rogue ST Pro, and the i525s. The Rogue ST Pro, DCB and i525s were the best for me, however the i525s were far and away the best for me to help with my left miss. The Project X IO shaft in a stiff was the best shaft for me, tried 3 other shafts and none were as good. Ordered my i525s after the fitting as the numbers blew away my Mizuno MP20 HMBs. BTW, the 223s had really good feel in them as well, numbers just weren't quite as good, the ST Pros were surprisingly good as well.
Did you try the Mizuno 225 ‘s or just the 223. I’m currently using the first of the TM p790. Considering updating but not keen on spending the money unless it achieves a noticeable difference. Would look at these Pings, the new 790 or the Mizuno 225. Appreciate your thoughts
@@tiborsol6376 I didn't hit the 225s even though they are considered the replacement for my HMBs. I did hit the P790s and they were ok, still the numbers for the i525 were the best for me.
How are you finding them 3 months down the line? I’m considering making a purchase this week but don’t have the chance to test. Was considering 425s but think I’d like to try something less ‘game improver’. How are the i525 in terms of forgiveness?
@@jameshill23 Not bad, but TBH the sound of the i525 is starting to bother me.
Nice review, the clubs look and appear to perform great however I had i500's for a short while yes the performance was excellent but after the 3rd card wrecking short iron flyer they were history. I think Ping are now using a foam filler aka TM? Hopefully this is an improvement as I personally experienced some really weird feedback off the i500's.
They’re not using foam. They put a badge on back to dampen.
@@TripsView Yeah just read that on Ping's website, will be interesting to see if it makes the response more consistent. I hit many shot with the i500's that felt frankly weird, look up and the ball is on the green. Hopefully this is version 2 which fixes the issues with version 1.
@@leeshaw3733 yeah I didn’t like feel
Prefer my Mizuno HMB set for hollow forged goodness, though these new Ping do look swell! You're absolutely right, though... Hollow player's irons do everything well EXCEPT for their sound and feel. I describe the sound of my HMB as a very loud click. Go figure!
Or chip
PXG irons in my bag they have passed Ping in performance, and I was a Ping player for most of my golf playing life
Good review. I started using the Ping G425 max driver towards the end of the season. I was considering the G425 irons. Curious how the i525 would compare to the G425 for distance and gapping?
Saw other reviews with 35 yards between 7-9 iron. That’s a 17 yard gap. And chipping with irons like his is trash. They’re beautiful tho
@@TripsView thanks. Are you referring to the i525’s or G425’s? Gapping at the longer end of my irons is where I tend to have most of my problems.
@@clientbuilding8737 the i525 but the 425 have same chipping issues with the bouncy face. Hallow body irons in general are prone to the flier
@@TripsView I have a similar problem with the Callaway clubs I currently have. That’s why I bought vokey 54 and 58 deg wedges. Sometimes I wish I could chip with a 8 or 9 iron. Really hard to find clubs that can do it all.
@@clientbuilding8737 ping i210
Which Mizuno model do you think they compete with and how do they stack up?
Good question, maybe the 225's and very close call
I went in for a fitting, intent on getting the Mizuno 225, ended up ordering these Pings, as they performed slightly better for me on mishits (when I hit them both flush, they are very comparable).
Nice looking irons
Agreed
These a replacement for the i500s or aimed at the lower handicap player ?
Replace the i500
They look great but I feel nobody does hollow body better than PXG, Including TM.
They look nice but I have to say I hate how ping do the numbering on the sole of the clubs ☹️
tbh i switched to pxg 0311 xp and i love them, cant beat them.
love ping, have there woods and driver, but the irons for me always a bit “ techy” and clicky, and no where as nice feeling as pxg
I agree
You obviously never hit the i210 then
@@TripsView exactly what I was going to say, the i210’s are a tremendous iron.
@@biggeecee359 my favorite I’ve owned and I’ve felt forged irons that weren’t as balance of soft
@@TripsView youre correct, but i cant see them feeling better than pxg. arent i210 cast?
Nice video wells one as usual , but this time sorry data betray you: 7 iron w a 163 carry at 77 mph … means smash factor far over 1,4!!!! Not an average golfer. Generally I like your video because “Average golfer” more close to my golf stratus (75mph w a 7 Iron and 130 carry and 15HCP) …. These number is more close to a normal review done by professional golfer such as Newman or second swing miles away from average golfer.
They look good but I can buy PXG Gen3 for have the price and probably the same or better performance and feel. Ping has raised prices too high on irons not considering they are cast and don't have many stock shaft options.
That’s funny cause vokeys are cast and they’re the most expensive wedges on the market.
@@TripsView vokey also makes forged wedges for the Japanese market. Tour spec used to stock them regularly. I currently play a forged wedges. I will say on a wedge the difference is less because you are compressing the ball less on impact and the ball rolls up the face a lot more. Big difference for me with irons.
@@TripsView I thought Ping has the most expensive wedges
@@kevinwood1722 was just at the store and if you get super custom
Glide pros maybe. But vokey are nearly 200 a stick. Cast. While point was there’s a stigma issue and most people don’t even know what they’re talking about
Are they going to release an i210 replacement? Or is that what the i59s are??
I210 will be replaced later this year I think 👍
@@TheAverageGolfer thank you
They look beautiful but how forgiving are they
Why is there a notch in the back of the iron?
It makes them easier to custom bend to specs of your liking.
Beautiful club
It sure is
You need to go head to head with the new mizuno jpg 923 family
Stop it Andy your going to bust me 😂 I have i500s at mo 🤔🤔 they do look 🔥🔥🔥pal
Sorry Paul!
@@TheAverageGolfer 😂😂😂👍
Could a 8 to 10 handicapper hit these ?
This one just did!
@@TheAverageGolfer I have p790s do u think these are better?..and I love your channel
5-15 handicap
@@dandumm4319 I might up grade I hit p790s now I'm about an 6 to 8 handicap if I play alot I can get in the 70s regularly
Price, price, price. Over $220 per iron! That's pretty steep for a non forged Ping iron. Considering Ping cant even deliver last years models in a timely manner, so not unrealistic to expect if you order these
Nice review, just not an iron which catches my eye really, no real reason though 🤣
You think these are better performers than the PXG Gen 4 P irons?
WOuld like to test the long irons which was the most impressive part of i525s but the PXG feel better
I doubt it on a number of fronts. Right now great deals on Gen 3. I have both Gen 4 in long and Gen 3 0311XF long P 67 and 0211 ST for 8, 9 W. Can't beat the feel, sound and performance for the price point AND with Mitsubishi shafts no less!
Another big negative has to be surely the huge price of these irons
I need irons, with a consistent gap ...arround 12 yds.
I need irons, with no big gap to the 51° wedge
I need irons, that have enough backspin, to stop on the greens
I need irons, there are precise with a consistent length
I play Mizuno MP 18 MB/SC
an have all these, with a supreme feel👌
Where will the jacked loft end up? For a 7 iron 30? Really.
Every 7 iron in this category is 30, you seem like it’s the first time you heard this?
@@TheAverageGolfer but where will end I asked.
That’s not all that low now days. Strong yes but game improvements are even stronger.
186 carry with a 5 iron is not average golf. You may need to retitle.
If I didn't have my Gen3''s I would give these a go. But alas...sorry Ping, the original is better
The Gen03s feel better
I have never been a fan of testing indoors.
Ping always seems like a wan a be in the quasi - "forged" marketplace. I game their driver, woods and hybrids and they are exceptional. Irons, not so much. I am willing to overlook the sound in the big sticks in exchange for their performance / distance / forgiveness ratio . But at this price point for irons? Unless they have the feel and sound of a true forged iron on a good strike, they will have problems competing with Mizuno 225, Apex, Sub70 699pro, TM 790 and PXG 0311 / Gen 3 and others which all have filled cavities for dampening acoustics with the same distance / loft for under $200 / club US. Small tweaks like precision "hot metal secret sauce" on the back of the face, for the new price point, doesn't seem to cut it with respect to feel and sound. Time will tell if it ticks all the boxes for folks looking for a new set of "player's distance irons" given the competition out there including the DTC brands that did well during the pandemic.
The Mizuno 225s blow these away
I wouldn’t go that far, I went in for a fitting intent on getting the Mizuno 225s, end up ordering these i525s. Across the board they are comparable, but the Pings performed better (feel and outcome) for me on bad strikes.
Keep the fkn camera still hey have u ever heard of motion sickness from a video yeah me either dont cause it.
