Mizuno has consistently made irons that work well for me and I've played the Mizuno JPX 919 tour's for the last several years. From what I hear they are fairly similar to the Mizuno pro 223's. 13 hdcp. I use the Cleveland Launcher UHX in combo with the Launcher Halo Hybrids. I love the clubs, especially the hybrids. So much easier to hit than lower irons.
As a 22 handicap, I got a set of Cobra LTDX irons, regular steel KBS shafts. I just love these irons that offer me confidence, distance and good dispersion. So happy with them.
10 handicap, was playing Wilson Staff D7 forged, they got me from 28 down to 10. Just traded them in and got the Cobra King Tour irons! They’re lovely to look at and feel amazing ✌️
Just got the Wilson D9 forged after scoring under 100 pretty consistently and have already shaved 2-4 shots off my score over 3 rounds with them. Absolutely love the feel coming from hitting Dunlop Surpass Irons 😳 for the first couple years of my golf journey
I got fitted to the T300s a few years ago, and I LOVE them. I shot a 96 over the weekend. I can only imagine how much higher it would have been if I had the T100s
Me too, been playing them for a year and love them. Lowered my handicap from 35 to 24, still nothing impressive, but I'll be playing these for the foreseeable future.
My coach that I go to now, a former Korn Ferry tour player, told me clubs that are made for pro should only be played by pros! He said play clubs you like, and always stick to clubs that offer more forgiveness! If you’re not playing and practicing daily with a plus handicap you really shouldn’t be playing tour level equipment. His opinion!
I'm an average handicapper that hovers around 11 - 12 . I currently have the P-790 5i to AW the love the feel when middled, also love the feedback on off centred hits.. they keep you honest.
I started playing a year or so ago after a 30 year break... I got hold of some used 1980s Spalding clubs and couldn't get much distance out of them (back issues, getting old etc). I went along to a Srixon fitting day and the guy pointed me to Cleveland Launcher XLs with stiff graphite shafts to raise my ball speed and, oh my God, it was like hitting butter. I managed to get the distance I should have been for my very high handicap and I'm loving playing even more, and I can keep up the pace with my mates because I'm now not topping, slicing or hooking every shot into trees and bushes. Now to get some lessons!
I am a 10 Hdcp and play the PING 425 irons. I generally shoot high 70s to low 80s. Struggle with consistency, mostly by trying to swing too hard and not looking at the ball when striking it
I just bought a set of G430s. I have the same peek a boo and swing speed issues. Lol I tend to jersey the club down at the top of my backswing, which I'm working on smoothing out.
I'm 19.5 currently and I play i230s with the project-x R flex steel shafts. I absolutely love these irons! They Launch and are very forgiving. They look more like a players iron, but have a cavity for plenty of forgiveness.
I'm a14 handicap and got a set of John Letters irons back in i think 2008. The shop in St Andrews let me take a 4 and a 7 down to range at the Old course and told me to hit 20 with each club and come back and report my findings. Told them that i was pushing them a little so they closed the face a little and sent me back out again. Started hitting them straight as a die and they've been in my bag ever since.
As someone who is looking to get a new set of irons this video is perfect especially because these days I have no idea what’s really good quality for players around my handicap
Just bought a brand new set of Rouge st max irons from callaway and those are the beat irons I've hit. Spent most of last year trying out tons of pings and few callaways and Taylor made. Almost bought some mavericks but these feel so smooth, hits long, and gives me so much forgiveness.
Spent over a year looking for irons. Finally chose Honma tr21x fitted with a stiff shaft. Quite literally the best irons I've hit. So impressed I moved to their Tr20 driver and tr21x fairway woods.
I've just returned to golf after a 16 year absence and was not a single digit player back then so knew I needed irons that would make my life as easy and enjoyable as possible. I tried pretty much everything the shop had to offer and it was a lot of clubs, in the end the Callaway Rogue ST stuck out for the consistency, distance and feel. 1/4 inch of the shaft length and hopefully being delivered to the shop on Thursday for range practice Friday and Saturday followed by 18 holes Sunday! Wish me luck....
15-18 Hdcp here, learned on a beginner set of Rams for about a year. Shafts we’re waayyyyyy too soft. Bought a used set of original AP2s. Not a great choice for a beginner. But I struggled through and am still playing them today. Been hitting my friends new t-200s and I absolutely love them. Added about 15-20 yards compared to the AP2s.
@@dmkfactor1721as someone who is personally floating around a 20 handicap but shaved ~5 off of it this year just from actually getting better, I’d 100% volunteer to borrow and play some blades for a round to look like a doofus and have fun and hopefully provide some entertainment to others 🤣
I hit the apex mb irons nowhere. Now my 0317ST PXG irons... those irons are amazing. I never thought I would be a PXG guy, but here we are. Give them a try, and if you don't love them, I'll be amazed.
I was fit into the Apex MB 21's and have to say even among the forged blades they feel and look over the ball better than any other option out there. I fell in love with them after the first swing, tbh.
@@mikeabel7577 I did. I spent about 6 weeks hitting irons before my fitting and among blades I hit most of them. Some examples, Titleist were underwhelming, Mizuno were very good (as usual) and the Ping blades were surprisingly nice, but the Callaway feel was, to me, better than any of them.
I got fit as a 15 hdcp 2 years ago and got the Mizuno JPX hot metals. While I love them, my biggest gripe over time has been they are massive. Now I am down to a 10 and looking again and really looking to get back to a traditional small head size that I grew up with.
I had the same issue. I was a 5 handicap with some Taylormade M2 irons and couldn’t stand to even look at them anymore 😂. I went to Mizuno JPX tour. I couldn’t recommend them enough. They are far less punishing on bad strikes than I originally thought they would be. Could easily take your game up a notch with those
@@owenmiller390 nice will have to take a look at them and was also thinking of looking at the 225/223 pros too. Either way, I like to hear they are less punishing then you thought because thats why I stayed away from them as well. Was also thinking of looking at the Titleist line too.
💯 agree, after customer fitting recently the best irons I used during the fitting was the Apex MB 21. Easily the best feeling off the blade! Great post! 🙌🏼
Great video, great editing (loved the crescendo on the background romantic music near the start). Great twist, and great content. With content like this golf magazines will need to convert to gardening or holiday packages.
I'm around that as well and play a combo set of the TaylorMade P770s/P790s. They've been great. Looked at both the Mizunos and Cobras during my fitting, but just hit the TMs best, so I went with those. The right shaft and lie angle helps too.
As a 26 handicap I've used Mizunos before and I lived them. I regret getting rid of them. Right now I'm using Callaway X-Hot irons and they are definitely better than what I had after the Mizunos.
two questions... 1. what about lefties? Mizuno for example makes great clubs but tends to limit their selection for lefties. 2. where do you stand on club fittings? recommending 2nd hand clubs is a great way to update gear in a bag at a discount but the confidence knowing that the length, lie, shaft flex, shaft weight and grip size are fitted specifically to your swing is very confidence inspiring... Have a set of fitted clubs means that every time I miss a shot I know now I can't blame the gear.
I come from a very high handicap (42) and I am now 28 handicap after 2 years - all thanks to a lot of practice combined with Cleveland Halo's, lovely clubs for beginners
No BS: I bought my first iron set when getting back into the game in 2019 from golfbidder (RSi1) and although I will eventually get fitted some day, I knew of golfbidder bc of your & Rick's challenge and I am still very happy with my purchase
I had the RSI1 from 2015 to when i replaced them with PXG 0211 this year. They were great irons and I only replaced them as all the face slots seemed to be breaking apart and they were losing pop. Was happy I purchased them and gamed them for so long.
6min and 34sec in the video I hit the subscribe button. I'm playing in two day's. I'll keep you guys posted if there was falls advertising or Peter spitting facts.... cheers 🍻
10 handicap: Just picked up a set of Cleveland Launcher XL irons (Not Halos) to compare to the Ping I500’s I’ve had for a while. Launchers have a longer blade length than the Pings but honestly are very solid and feel just as good.
Great video! I’m a 20 handicapper looking to get some new irons. My buddy has a set of taylormade p770 forged 2017, are these a good set for me? They’re in great shape and we are talking half the price of retail or even used in the same condition. In terms of ball striking some days I don’t fell like a 20 handicap it’s just bad course management and lack luster short game.
In 2021 I bought the Sim2 Max OS irons. After a decade with older Yonex irons, the difference was something. I know that was more the delofting, but I also find them much more forgiving. I'm a low to mid 90s golfer. I was a mid to high 90s golfer before then. Was that the clubs? Who can say. But they are chunky, and honestly, I like them a lot.
I love that you went Nike! I just bought a set of the VR pro combos (set before vapour) and they're absolutely brilliant! Was previously using Ping i500 and didnt get on with how much of a trampoline the face was. Plus £185 is a bit more palatable than £1200+ for a new set with fucked up lofts 😂
I currently use Mizuno 921 forged. But my previous set were the VR pro combos and I still use the PW (Mizuno I got 3-9 and went 46 in Cleveland zipcore to match my wedges and that was a mistake) but the VR pros were and still are so good
I don’t keep a proper HCP but I play off around 12-14. Been using the TaylorMade RazorBladez Tour irons for almost a decade now. Love the Mizuno’s recommended here if I decide to switch - can get 4-PW for less than $1000USD off US version of GolfBidder
@@dchildress17 there’s 2nd Swing and Golf Avenue. I think Golf Avenue is the one directly affiliated with GolfBidder. Both sites are effectively the same thing though.
I just bought a set of G430 irons. I'm hoping they will allow me to improve my ball striking. My old set were from 1998, so these are a significant step up in technology and performance.
Just invested in my 3rd set of Cleveland Launcher XL Halo the newest ones and Ive tried other sets but just coming back to Cleveland best game improvement irons on the market IMO
I put my pride aside and got a set of t200 and t350 set. 350 long irons... 200 short... and shot under par. I don't care what people think of my clubs. Under par... oh yeah!
I'm currently a +4 and play totleist t100s. Most consistent, still workable. Apex on any given club was the same or just higher than my p730s and spin rate was pretty much identical. Picked up and extra 15 yards which is just massive.
I am a 11 handi cap. Don’t get to play as much as I like but I love my ap-1 I got for Christmas . Lightly used and the whole set was for only 200$ tour grip mid size white grips on my titleist ap-1 . I feel good striking the ball and even on my miss hits I still get good contact
Been playing 3 years now and at 15 handicap and find the Srixon z785 irons are great! Looking at upgrading to the ZX7 MKII or some Mizuno irons next season though
I think the Z785 feels and especially looks better than the ZX7. I have tested the ZX7:s several times. Also hit some Mizuno 223:s, which are somewhat equivalent but didn't like them as much.
The Vapour Pro Combos are the greatest set of irons ever made. I adore them even being a little above the 5-10 handicap range. They launch high and also provide brilliant forgiveness. I was surprised to see you giving them some love Pete!
Got back into golf after a hiatus played the HB launchers but after getting back up to speed had to upgrade to the T-300. HB's became hook machines. I will still keep them in case the daughters get into the game. Great for beginners.
14HC golfer, recently got fitted and grabbed a set of taylor made M4 irons. Also grabbed the M4 driver. And im pretty consistant with striking but man noticed both with irons and the driver an off center strike still goes a decent distance and direction. I really need to shank one or fat it to create a bad shot.
Love your content Pete! That did I play something close to what you call 25 handicap clubs. (Cleveland). Im a 10 HC. Actually playing your 10 HC clubs would make me a 25 handicapper.
Im a 13 handicapper who uses 2020 Cobra Forged Tec irons. I think they're a great middle ground between my former cavity back players irons and midsized game improvement irons. The only downside is that I got them with low-mid launch stiff shafts that are a little much for my broken down 61 year old body.
I went and got fitted at Club Champion 4 weeks ago for a full bag fit. I hit some balls with the 225's and a few other irons. I also hit some balls with ZX5's and preferred the Srixon's to the Mizuno's and other brands. I got them fitted with Fujikura Axiom shafts with an extra inch in length. I'm 58 pretty unfit and play off 14 and these go a bloody mile and feel amazing.
I’m an 8 hdc and use P790s I got fitted for them when they released fall of 21. I almost went with the 770’s and though I think I would have played just fine with them, I put my ego aside and the extra forgiveness definitely comes in help on those off days.
I’m a 15 handicap and I was fitted with mizuno 223 but with true temper 7.0 shafts. I went with no preference but the trackman didn’t lie about the dispersion dialing in
I picked up a set of Vapor Pro Combos this spring and absolutely love them. I'm a 17 handicap, but I am playing these far better than I ever did my Aeroburner HLs despite coming off a torn rotator cuff. The look behind the ball and the feel on the shot is amazing for an "old" club.
8 handicap and just switched to MP 20 blades from the jpx forged. My scores aren’t any worse and if anything I’m finding my distances to be way more consistent!

Lol
I tend to jersey the club down at the top of my backswing, which I'm working on smoothing out.
Same I'm an 8 and play those same irons they're awesome
Almost bought some mavericks but these feel so smooth, hits long, and gives me so much forgiveness.
just got the Mizuno 225's last year. i love them they are great clubs. You get the looks and the help in one club. great list.
Spent over a year looking for irons. Finally chose Honma tr21x fitted with a stiff shaft. Quite literally the best irons I've hit. So impressed I moved to their Tr20 driver and tr21x fairway woods.
Got fitted last year for the callaway apex. At that time i was handicap 12. Now at handicap 9. Love the clubs.
Wilson launchpad 2 irons are perfect for beginners, and alot cheaper than big brands, i love them
I've just returned to golf after a 16 year absence and was not a single digit player back then so knew I needed irons that would make my life as easy and enjoyable as possible.
I have the Mizuno MP20 HMB irons and love them. Feel and forgiveness in a great looking design. Not even tempted to look at the Pro 225’s
I'm a 6.5 and I play the mizuno pro 225. Love the look and forgiveness.
32 years playing, mostly with a set of TA3 845's, and recently switched to the Takomo 201's which is another player iron. Love them!
I said yesterday i needed new irons and you posted this today..........you're fast Pete.
Would be an interesting idea for you to play 18 holes with each and see what the scoring difference for you as a great player would be.
Would love to see people of various handicaps use each set honestly! THAT would be a GREAT series!
@@TripodianTT Have you ever heard a word called fun and another called enjoyment?
@@dmkfactor1721as someone who is personally floating around a 20 handicap but shaved ~5 off of it this year just from actually getting better, I’d 100% volunteer to borrow and play some blades for a round to look like a doofus and have fun and hopefully provide some entertainment to others 🤣
I hit the apex mb irons nowhere. Now my 0317ST PXG irons... those irons are amazing. I never thought I would be a PXG guy, but here we are.
Give them a try, and if you don't love them, I'll be amazed.
I was using a set of R7 taylomades till earlier this year, I got myself a zx5/zx7 combo set and love them
I was fit into the Apex MB 21's and have to say even among the forged blades they feel and look over the ball better than any other option out there. I fell in love with them after the first swing, tbh.
Did you hit other blades before you settled on the Apex MBs?
As a 15-17 (depending on time of year), the Cobra Forged Tec irons have been amazingly perfect. Remind me a lot of those MIzuno 225s
I'm around that as well and play a combo set of the TaylorMade P770s/P790s. They've been great. Looked at both the Mizunos and Cobras during my fitting, but just hit the TMs best, so I went with those. The right shaft and lie angle helps too.
@@jacktremper8090 bad mistake...TM buys their cheap metal from china and forge it wrong
@@giomusah2155 They've worked great for me and very happy with them.
I’m a 10 hdcp and have been playing Mizuno JPX 850 forged for years and I love them.
18-25 here, Callaway Razr X have been the best thing to learn on period. No desire to change irons at all for the foreseeable future.
As a 26 handicap I've used Mizunos before and I lived them. I regret getting rid of them. Right now I'm using Callaway X-Hot irons and they are definitely better than what I had after the Mizunos.
I'm a 16 handicap I have the t300 and absolutely love them love your chanel though pete
two questions...
1. what about lefties?
18 handicap and I play the rogue st pros. love em. they look good and let me get away with some bad strikes sometimes.
I'll keep you guys posted if there was falls advertising or Peter spitting facts.... cheers 🍻
Update- facts!!!
12 handicap here... Titleist T-MB's are amazing. I was using the Srixon ZX-7's for 2 years prior to finding a set of T-MB's.
10 handicap: Just picked up a set of Cleveland Launcher XL irons (Not Halos) to compare to the Ping I500’s I’ve had for a while. Launchers have a longer blade length than the Pings but honestly are very solid and feel just as good.
225 owner, this man is spot on. Moved from mavriks, to mavrik pros, and then finally to fitted 225s.
They will be used till the faces are shot.
I love my Nike vapor pros! One thing I think that helps me, I practice at home with an OLD bladed 3 iron lol helps my ball striking a ton
Honestly I’m a +1 and I just switched to the rogue ST Pro irons and they are insane!!! I highly recommend!
My friend finally is getting serious into golf this year. All new clubs, to him anyway. He just picked up a set of T300 and really likes them 🤙
Was using srixon z765 for 5 years - now have set of zx5s
Srixon are the best most underrated manufacturer about - butter and pillows all day!!!
But my previous set were the VR pro combos and I still use the PW (Mizuno I got 3-9 and went 46 in Cleveland zipcore to match my wedges and that was a mistake) but the VR pros were and still are so good
I’m about a 12/13 handicap and it’s funny you said Mizuno for that group, because I just got my Mizuno JPX923 Forged Irons a few weeks ago.
Love that you have the pro combos in here.... I have MP69s and MP4s but I still play my pro combos to have a little bit of forgiveness.
I’m now a subscriber, can’t wait to hit my best score in the 50mph wind and rain we have today
Just got fitted for the cobra forged tech irons blew everything else out the water for me unbelievable irons
I don’t keep a proper HCP but I play off around 12-14. Been using the TaylorMade RazorBladez Tour irons for almost a decade now. Love the Mizuno’s recommended here if I decide to switch - can get 4-PW for less than $1000USD off US version of GolfBidder
What’s the US version?
Index 7.2. Was playing Mizuno MP20 MB, just shifted to i230’s for some pop and forgiveness. Super consistent subject to obvious operator errors!
Im a category one golfer and i use the cobra's. They are great and can spin like hell when struck properly.
The Vapour Pro Combos are the greatest set of irons ever made. I adore them even being a little above the 5-10 handicap range. They launch high and also provide brilliant forgiveness. I was surprised to see you giving them some love Pete!
Never heard of then b4
Got back into golf after a hiatus played the HB launchers but after getting back up to speed had to upgrade to the T-300. HB's became hook machines. I will still keep them in case the daughters get into the game. Great for beginners.
14HC golfer, recently got fitted and grabbed a set of taylor made M4 irons. Also grabbed the M4 driver. And im pretty consistant with striking but man noticed both with irons and the driver an off center strike still goes a decent distance and direction. I really need to shank one or fat it to create a bad shot.
Love the Nike vapor pro combo feature! I’ve been gaming them since they came out and I’m now an 11. Seriously underrated clubs
I have never shot under 97 ever. I just subscribed so I will be in touch with the results when I go golfing in 2 weeks
Currently off 7 playing t100s, great irons, plenty of forgiveness but have got t-mb irons in the 3,4 and 5 irons for a bit more launch❤
Playing off 6 right now and absolutely love my Ping iBlades.
Nailed it Pete. I’m off 12 and playing 225s 👌🏼
Just got back into golf got my self some zx4s as I was really struggling with my old blades I use to use yes there power sticks but I really like them
I’m an 8 hdc and use P790s I got fitted for them when they released fall of 21. I almost went with the 770’s and though I think I would have played just fine with them, I put my ego aside and the extra forgiveness definitely comes in help on those off days.
I’ve got those Nike Vapor pro combos in my bag and can’t see myself changing anytime soon. They’re so good 💪🏻
The clubs I prefer are my T100s. They took the place of my AP 2s that I used for 2 sets over 10 years. You can’t beat ‘‘em for feel and performance
I’m a 15 handicap and I was fitted with mizuno 223 but with true temper 7.0 shafts. I went with no preference but the trackman didn’t lie about the dispersion dialing in
16 hcp and I play the Mizuno HM Pro and absolutely love them, super forgiving without being a huge iron. I have played forged and these feel forged.
I bought the T300 last year and they’re awesome!!!!! Best ones
Don't understand people not playing combo/split sets, think when you look at most brands now blending makes so much sense
