Wilson clubs do a very good job of selling themselves without a load of player sponsorship. Had FG59's then Staff model blades and they are the goods every time I middle one. Less often than I would like. 🤪
Went to get fitted and the new Wilson Staff CB's came in a very very close 2nd to the T150's for me. They felt softer than the T150's as well. T150's just a little better performance for my swing personally.
Got the dynapower forged this summer, changed my game completely was the best decision i ever made in golf dropped so many shots the control and distance these clubs have has shot my handicap from 18 to 13 in a few months
I started playing the Wilson Dynapower Forged about 3 months ago and I'm in love! I now enjoy hitting my irons more than my other clubs which was not really the case before.
Just wanna say thanks for the vids. Hit my first 2 sub 90 rounds (89,86). Watching this channel and your swing quest channel have taken about 10 strokes off my game.
This is a tough topic to tackle, but I applaud you, Pete. It "seems" straightforward, but clubs are so subjective in the hands of the golfer. I went from a 32 handicap in 1998, bought "game improvement" irons (Callaway X-12's), and taught myself how to play by reading everything. By 2003, I was a 6 handicap and graduated to Mizuno MP-14 irons and still play them. I'm no longer a 6-handicap anymore (11-handicap) but I rarely ever mishit my irons. I can't putt to save my life, lol. I did find my old Never Compromise VooDoo putter from the early 00s, so hopefully, it helps bring some better putting!
As a high single figure/low tens, I thought I'd be in the T200s for sure when I got fitted, but I hit the T100s so much better and preferred the feel to the T200s. Still keeps it online when I barely make contact with the grooves
Likewise, I’m 11 HC and I hated the 200s but loved the 100s and got fitted into them for PW-6 and the 150s for a 4&5 iron. I thought the 200s were harder to hit clean
Just bought a set of the TaylorMade P790 irons (I’m a 23 handicap). What a revelation. They look great and my distance and dispersion is much improved. Did try the Wilsons but nowhere near as good as the P790s.
Looked at the p790’s but found the equivalent with TAKOMO 101’s at one third the cost and same maybe longer just pure ,I also have the King Cobra Forged TEC about same price as the P790’s which are also great Irons ,all Hollow Body Forged.
Those Ti fusion look good for about half a round. They mark up terrible in a carry bag. It’s a hell of a lot to pay for something to look naff after one go.
I recently got fitted for the p770 I am loving them plenty of forgiveness for me and somehow they launch slightly lower and carry a bit further than my last set of irons. (2021 t100s)
I switched from Cobra F max irons to Sub 70 659 forged cavity backs. The difference is so dramatic when I hit it good. I'm new to golf so I don't want any training wheels
It's starting to feel like there are too many tropes about "forgiveness" vs "workability". You can slice or hook the hell out of an SGI iron, and I have done that many times, so why should you pick a semi-hybrid set of irons that disguises a 6 iron loft as a 7 iron and has a bigger dispersion? Irons are meant to aim at tight spots, like greens, so what is the point of trying inflate your distances? Is it to stand on the tee and impress people by calling out a pitching wedge that might as well be a 9 or an 8?
Are you in favor of everyone playing blades, because my argument if you’re saying just play places/muscle back, would be age as you age you need the help provided by the delofted clubs, I’m just confused on your point I guess not trying to argue
@@peterfinchgolfgo look at Cool Clubs robot reviews and there is just not a clear relation between what the irons look like or are aimed (HCP) at and what their dispersion is.

Same with the drivers, throw in a top of the line and a super forgiving one for high handicappers. 1 guy, same day same conditions, 2 sets of clubs head to head.

@Pete, interested to hear your thoughts... The big pricing problem IMO is that manufacturers bring out new equipment every 12 months. After a product has been on the shelf for 12 months, it's only 1 yr old, it's still very modern and can't lose much, if any of it's release RRP. So when they bring out new equipment after just a 12 month turn around, it has to be advertised as "worth more" than the previous models which hasn't had a chance to reduce it's price. So therefore, the new equipment must have a higher price tag so it doesn't appear on the shelf as the same or inferior compared to last years models. That would push players to buying older equipment which may start getting clearance sales etc
Cost is not a problem for manufacturers. What you pay $1000 actually cost them $125 so even when they clear out them they are making money. But once you as a customer buy something you won’t buy again for years so they need to keep business open convincing you a little improvement is a big one for you! Every business it’s the same
@@mjdm1925 I'm not saying it's a problem for manufacturers. It's a problem for customers/consumers that prices just go up crazy amounts every year. The previous models don't have time to depreciate in value, so when new products are released it has to be released at a higher price than the previous model so it can be sold as a better product that's worth more
Robot testing a while back showed the best consistency for front the back dispersion when mishit of the toe and heel strikes was with the Srixon ZX7 / ZX5 mkII. I went for a fitting a year ago and after trying a lot of different irons from all the top brands the best distance and dispersion for me ended up being the Srixons. Check those out
Pete, maybe you could reach out to Titleist and see if they would make you some T350’s without the offset. Then you might actually be able to stick them the bag! That would be an incredibly informative experiment to see a golfer of your caliber play a whole season with ultra forgiving irons.

I am a 12 handicap and got fit for the QI HL. I was a 24 handicap when I got them. I feel that they are too inconsistent on distances for me. When I hit it right on the screws it flights way farther and over the green most times. Should I consider switching sets?
Regarding the black finishes chipping.... I wonder why they don't consider molybdenum alloys like impact sockets. Impact sockets are black and stay black after getting beat far worse than any club ever would. And they use the molybdenum because its softer and far less prone to shatter under impact forces. (I.E. nice feel) IDK...just throwing it out there.
Q. If I'm buying a set of irons are there places where you could actually try 3 or 4 different types on a range before deciding which suits the best? I've got a £200 budget so I guess 2nd hand would be a good option
I’d go to a local golf club (note not American Golf) and pay for a fitting. My fitting was £30 with no pressure to buy. I found out what shaft was best and I tried all the heads I was interested in. I bought some but with a £200 budget I’d have gone on eBay and bought an old model of the same clubs or something similar that came with a similar spec shaft. I’d then go back to the golf club and get them adjusted for length (so buy correct length or longer) and lie as fitted and get new grips if needed.
