  • The soaring popularity of players distance irons is showing no signs of slowing down, and PING is making sure it won’t be left behind the crowd with this latest release.
    The new i525 irons boast an advanced, hollow-body construction to deliver ballistic ball speed and great forgiveness in a compact, players-style head.
    Our man David Cunninghame (@D_Cunninghame) decided to take PING's latest creation out onto the course to find how just how powerful this new players distance iron really is.

    I now have the i525 changing from the mizuno jpx 923 tour. Distance is a club longer so my Ping 7 iron is like the mizuno 6 iron. The performance is really good and my mis hits are much better.

    Just got fitted for i525's coming off from Mizuno MX300's (2009). Closest iron in this category matching that old Mizuno feel. Absolutely loved that 7 iron, but will face some calibration settings on the driving range now hitting everything 20m further.

    Great review, I am concerned about gapping as I’m considering these irons. Would you suggest going to retro lofts and still seeing gains ?
    From reviews it appears they work out a club longer in distance generally which isn’t a bad thing.

    Thanks for the review. I’m contemplating moving from MP20 blade to the i525. Looking to get those last couple of shots off the index to get to Cat1. Had a fitting for them and fantastic consistency with distance control and they felt very solid. The more I hit it the tighter the dispersion became as I gained confidence with the club. Put them side by side with Mizuno 223 and the look at address and “feel” is more than acceptable. What I’d like to see is what the gapping at the lower end of the bag looks like in terms of the set gap wedge blending into specialty wedges.

      Given the power of the i525 irons, and their stronger lofts, gapping at the bottom end of your set will become very important. Make sure you have a manageable gap that allows you to attack pins form short range. DC

      @@bunkered assuming I put the i525 gap wedge in then just pick the right lofts at 54 & 58 for wedges should work into that gap at the bottom end.

      That sounds like it'll work well if you are including the i525 GW. DC

    Thank you for this video. Would you say the i525 offers more forgiveness than the Apex CF16?

    • @bunkered
      @bunkered  2 года назад

      Although I haven't tested them side-by-side I would be confident in saying the i525 offers greater forgiveness. The i525 is one of the most forgiving players distance irons I have ever tested. Having said that, Callaway has progressed over the last few years with forgiveness of its Apex irons, so the current Apex would be fairly close match. DC

    Are the lofts jacked?

    • @bunkered
      @bunkered  2 года назад

      The 7-iron loft is 30.5˚, which is fairly common for the players distance category. The key with these irons, however, despite their lower than traditional lofts, is the fact it achieves such high launch and descent angles. The i525 is also available in Power and Retro spec loft offerings. DC

    Ping or p790?

    • @bunkered
      @bunkered  2 года назад

      I've yet to test them side-by-side so can't say for certain. My initial thoughts, however, is that I would leave more towards the P790. I think it's looks and performance suit my eye and game a little better, whereas the i525 might be a better option for those who ball striking isn't a particular strength. DC

    i find it interesting how many so called reviews always praise the latest clubs and act like the previous ones were subpar in comparison. I have a Callaway X hot driver that is like 10 years old. I just bought a new Ping G series driver and the difference in performance was so small it was pretty disappointing on the minimal improvements. Just like my Ping G25 irons against the latest G425's The biggest difference is the loft of the clubs. They both perform well against each other. Things makes me wonder how much these reviewers are getting paid to review and praise equipment. I mean when is the last time you read or saw a video review where someone says the equipment was only ok and they preferred the older model?
