Excellent comment from Ryan about sound and performance. At the end of the day, you’re on your own when you play this game. Anything that tells you what you’re doing gives you an advantage.
Mike’s looking good!
Great to see Mike hitting the i525s. His swing speed is very close to mine. I have a set of i500s and struggle with the same low spin & not holding greens. Great video again!
Guys I have been waiting for this test. I would love to see them put up against the 225s or P790s
I say add the Takomo irons into that comparison since they are similarly spec'd.
and Cobra Forged Tec needs to be in that category
I was just fit today and went with the I525’s. Tested 525, 790, 225, and Z5’s.
For my swing the 790’s fought with Z5’s for 4th place. Both had poor dispersion missing in both directions. 525’s and 225’s were both very consistent and extremely similar. Decision came down to looks, feel, sound and ever so slightly better numbers.
As someone who has been a Taylormade diehard for over 20 yrs i was very surprised how quickly i dismissed 790’s. Just didnt feel good in comparison.
We all will have very diff feels and opinions, but for me pings were, as the guys stated, consistent even on mishits. Im a 10 handicap and like the rest of us hit more than my fair share of oopsie’s. I find it insane to watch Mickey hit and hear Ian tell him they maybe arent the club for him. It looked like a robot was hitting those shots. That was 12-15 shots with a 5 yard or less dispersion. Good grief.
I would be very interested in what you guys find if you choose to do your own comparisons. Cheers. ✌️✌️
@@fuzzybanana3870 Yup went 525 over mp225 and tm p790
Really like your insights on flight window, apex, and angle of descent. Keep up the great work!
Love to see the DTC's tested against the big boys! I currently use Sub70 699 Pro's off the back of your review of them a while back and from an iron fit I had they (for me) out performed the OEMs
Great review Gents. Mikee’s swing is solid and provides nice consistent results. I would love to see a test with Ping i525 vs Callaway Apex Pro vs Taylormade P770 & P790 vs Mizuno 223 & 225. Keep it up 👍🏼
Love to look of these. Like the forgiveness idea in a players style, but would certainly look at getting the retro lofts
Yay, TXG are back testing with Ian again ☺️
Was thinking about heading down from St Andrews to Ping in Lincolnshire for a fitting but would much prefer to head over the pond and visit you guys. Every test is so informative I’m convinced my set up could be considerably improved. Must be something that can be squeezed out of my 3.4 HCI and these 60 year old bones 🤣🤣
Been so much fun to watch the evolution of mikes swing!
Not only his swing, but he is getting more comfortable on camera. I relate more to Mike than I did to Matt. Very similar speed and tempo. I think he is doing very well overall.
Good content on the i525, I would like to see a side by side with the i525 being set 2degrees weak on them all, against the G400 and Srixon. I know the G400 may not be in the same class. but it is always good to see where they do differ and where they may be close, and the Srixon are ones I'd like to test one of these years. Also if you could use the 8 iron as it is one my favorite clubs. Distance is a considerations but if you are not getting off the tee it really wont matter. 90 to 130 from the green is where most would want to be at.
I was intrigued. Went for a fitting for i525. Gaming Mizuno MP20-MB. Also tested MP-223 and TM-770. The ping won hands down. In my view felt very very solid as did the MP223. I hardly noticed the “feel” difference between the Mizuno. What I would describe it as “Thumpy”. Bit like the old MP-59 was. Hit them on GC quod with TP5 ball which I game spinning at c.5600 launching at around 19* on a mat. Fantastic iron and hands down gave me so much consistency in terms of distance control and on a low and toe miss. Expect to look at 6i-Gap wedge. Very impressed and the Blades are going to have to be relegated to the club cupboard in the name of looking to improve the GiR stats for 2022!
If it’s available I’ll be testing it against the 225, p790, t200 and Apex. I’m getting a little long in the tooth so looking for a little extra pop and forgiveness. Currently gaming Callaway Diablo forged. They’re almost as old as me 😂
Currently playing G425 but I hit these today and it felt unreal, they’re also beautiful. Love the Project X shaft with the matte finish.. Swing has gotten better so planning to move up to players distance, will definitely be looking hard at these.
Did you end up getting these irons? I have the 425s right now and am looking at moving to the i525s. If you made the switch a couple of years ago, wondering how it worked out!
I am glad to see this video from TXG! I just recently got fitted for the i525s in the True Temper Dynamic Gold 120 s300 shafts this past weekend and played 18 holes with them yesterday! I am in love with these irons. I was previously playing the P770s in the KBS TGI 100 gram shafts. Ian's last statement is true about playing the correct golf ball with these irons. I will need to switch golf balls, I am playing the Bridgestone Tour B X at the moment but I am going to try the Titleist ProV1x or the Bridgestone Tour B XS since those golf balls spin a bit higher than the Tour B X.
I got fitted into the same shafts and the prov1x ball is my favorite so far (used the prov1 and tp5) - let me know if you find any other that pair well!
@@justintanaka9837 I will let you know what I find out when I test the ProV1x against the Bridgestone Tour B XS soon.
I’d love to see a combo series with Ping, like a G710/i525 for a mid handicap and i525/i59 for low handicap players. Great video as always! We miss Matty!!
check out Matt's new channel, pretty good stuff.
I've been playing mp5's because I loved their looks and feel. However the distance drops down on miss hits. Would love to see comparison with MP225 vs i525's at more moderate swing speed of 80mph for 7i.
I wish I had these, they look awesome
i525 vs Mizuno 225 is the test we all want to see!
Great video! Please add Rogue ST Pro to the mix for the next player's distance irons comparison
Great stuff lads
Please test against the 225, 790, king cobra tech. Thanks, and love your channel.
Boom first like! I525 or Mizuno MP20 HMB in 4-6. May have to look at them for the fitting
Look at the 225 instead of the HMB
Just went for a Ping fitting directly after a fitting with Callaway. Came down to the ping i525 vs the Paradym X and the pings just felt and sounded better all around. Also the pings were a good 8-10 yards longer than my callaway epics.
Also checked out the ping 430’ and the i230’s. 430’s were just too big and clunky for me and 230’s too hard for me to hit, so the 525’s just perfectly in the middle of the 3 sets.
If you’re still thinking of doing a head to head, i525, Forged Tec, and Rogue ST Pro seems like a fun one. Also, the i500s don’t sound that bad when I’m hitting a Nike Machspeed SQ next to you on the range ;)
Your effort to select an appropriate golf ball for each iron brand chosen to complete in comparative testing will be appreciated.
Would love to see RB with them in the next video!
You got it guys. Test against 225 and P790. That will be a great comparison and help a lot of us out here into making buying decisions.
Yo! You guys HAVE to review the Homna TR21X irons.. the absolute BEST blend of looks, sound, feel, forgiveness, and most of all.. CONSISTENCY I’ve ever seen in a players distance iron. Would love to hear your thoughts.
Hi lads. Great vids talking about acoustics in conjunction with flight, distance and dispersion. Can you incorporate a decibel reader to highlight the acoustic variations for the untrained ear, during iron comparison tests? Your thoughts?
Would love to see these, ZX5's and especially the 225's (as I'm 💘 with them) with a higher spinning ball like the Pro V1x?? How would that effect the distance, flight , and could you still play knock down's or stinggggers
Enjoyed this review, nice looking irons, a bit on the pricey side.
I tried these at a recent fitting. They were a good iron but when I compared against the i59's, I picked the latter. I had better dispersion and I think that's the compromise you need to take when selecting the players distance category. My previous set were the P790's and, whilst good, suffered the same issue of front to back distance control. Great to see that you guys thought this was a big improvement. Perhaps there will come a time when they sort all of these consistency issues out?
It'd be cool to see the i525s matched up against the P790s (TXG's highest selling iron set the last year or the year before? I think I heard Ian mention that at some point), the Apex Pros, and the 225s. A range of irons to compare performance, looks, and sounds and feels
add cobra forged tec to the list
I dont think 790’s can compete with forgiveness of 525’s or 225’s.
Im a 10 handicap and was just fit about 6 weeks ago. Hit 790’s, 225’s, zx5, wilson staff model and t200. Staff models were awesome, but teeny tiny…gone. Next was t200 and zx5…gone. Did a 15 ball test with 790’s, 225’s and 525’s. 790’s were all over the place. Left, right, high, low. Bought 525’s by a slight margin over 225’s. Both were super consistent on literally everything.
We all have very diff swings, feels, sounds, but from a guy who played TM for over 20 yrs, i think the 790’s are seriously overhyped. Just my opinion, but good luck to a 15 handicap being consistent with them.
@@fuzzybanana3870 nope got fitted today and p790 sucks just couldn’t hit the 225 pure they are for really good players for sure
Like to see test against ZX5, Miz 225 and New Level 902 PD (Let’s see how DTC does in the mix)
225 and apex would be a good test for the ping as I’m in the market for one of them
Would love to see i525 vs P790 vs Rogue ST Pro
14:49, I wish they would just do it on the spot, it would add an extra minute of video but I think showcase exactly who benefits and how much.
Try the v2 Kirkland ball. Could bring up the long iron spin !
It would be nice to see the i525 tested against P790's and Apex21's
I've been gaming the i210 for over two years now and are the best irons i've ever had by far, would be interested to hit these and compare.
Same for me. Would be interested to see how they compare if the 525 are in retro lofts
I see in quite a few of these that Mikey delivers the club toe-down. Would he benefit from a more upright lie angle even though he’s smoking these amazing and straight?
Would you ever considering comparing an iron like the i525 (P790, new 225 mizuno, etc) with a comparable from a DTC brand (sub 70, takomo, etc)?
Ordered set of MP 225s but definitely keen to see 225s vs P790 vs i525 to see the differences across the range.
Hey Jimmy! How are you liking the Pro 225? How would you rate the forgiveness?
Enjoyed the test. I would be curious to see how these i525's and 225's would deliver with a higher spinning ball.
They do
T200
Seems like it's the Forgotten iron already 😕
Great Video Guys I hope Matt's doing well? Safe Journey Marc
check out Matt's new channel, pretty good stuff.
Looking at 225s. Would love to see RB hit them both also to see the difference in performance between a lower ball hitter and a high ball hitter.
225 vs. p770 vs. I525
I started golf about three years ago with the Ping G700s- probably the most forgiving iron on the market at that time. my handicap started obviously very high around 30 and have practiced and improved to around 11-13 - my question is what can I gain from moving over to a less forgiving iron like the i525 mentioned in the video? Besides looks and coolness :) could I really gain workability, etc.? What about turf interaction , only because the g700s are so big .. thanks!
I would be curious how the I525 compares against the I210
Thanks for your content! What shaft was being used here?
Would love to see MP225 vs I525
Was Mike using the io shaft, and if so have you noticed low spin numbers with that it? I ask because I tried one in a demo club and my spin numbers were about 1500 lower which surprised me because that’s not what I thought it was designed to do.
The videos are longer. I like it a lot. More discussion 👍🏼👍🏼
Need to see them against the mizunos, especially height and landing angle don’t they compensate for lower spin?
Can we get a video testing the new Mizuno Fli Hi utility iron? Maybe put it up against Srixon ZX and Titliest U505
I want to see what clubs do with mis-hits. I know your strikers may not want to do that but I believe that the majority of golfers don't have the skills that they have. It was good to see some misses.
Are these the standard spec loft or retro (+2)? And were they adjusted? Sorry if I missed this in the video.
Are you guys ever gonna do the i525, MP225 and Apex Pro comparison? You often talk about follow up videos, but I hardly ever see any of them made.
I remember the powerspec experiment you did with the i500. Shockingly the PS had a higher peak height and higher descent angle
Redoing that at a "normal" swing speed with both RB and Mike would be a good test.
Did the distance between strikes not make you concerned? When Mike flushed one it was significantly longer .. I don’t mind that with a 4 or 5 iron but 6 up and I would be in a bit of trouble.
What about the height and landing angle of this seven iron?
If you're in the comments Ryan, do you know the hosel size for the Mizuno MP-A301 plumber's neck putter? Is it 0.370 like the newer series?
Would like to see these up against Mizuno and Callaway
Gotta test these ones up to the big boys from Taylormade and callaway
Could you test these against rogue st pro? Hope your watching the Gers against Dortmund Ian! Lets go!!
Please compare the i525 vs p790.
how do these compare with the G425 - I am interested in a fitting do you have the g425 power spec irons, the lofts are similar to the stealth
Hi guys I would love to see them added to the test along side the Callaway Apex Pros…
New intro logo is much better .
Hi there, may I know how you guys would compare the i525 with Titleist T200?
I shoot in the low to mid 80s, and I've been using the Titleist ap3 for a couple years now. Are these irons comparable to the ap3s, or are they a little more of a players iron?? I love my ap3s but I've gotten a lot better the past year and I want an iron that I could work a little more and not so juiced.
Is it possible to compare Mizuno Pro 225 with Ping i525
Would like you to compare the New Level 902 OS or the Sub70 699 to this
You could probably use these clubs just change it up to a higher spinning ball to be in the window you'd want, right?
I always felt that the i500 was the forgotten iron in the Ping range, it was almost as though Ping were a little embarrassed about it and more interested in pushing the i210s, G425, G710s.
The i525 is a good looking iron, but so was the i500 and the competitor products are at least as good looking (I am a sucker for the P770 look).
As for performance the numbers do not lie, this is a good iron but gapping is an issue. The difference between 7i and PW was 42 yards so 14 yards a club. That is slightly more than the maximum I would want. I do wonder though if a blended set containing a mixture or standard, power and retro lofts (ignoring the number on the bottom and just concentrating on the loft) would give a very consistent 10-12 yard gap per club
You are putting to much into these videos with someone else swinging the club imo.
I own the 525’s and spent an hour in simulator, plus all the fitting time for them and ive seen no gapping issues at all. Very consistent 10-12 yards. In fact, the most consistent clubs ive ever hit, from consistent distance shot after shot to much tighter dispersion than i have ever played.
The one stat i dont see ppl take into account nearly enough is smash factor. Its the one stat that literally shows how well(pure) you are striking the ball. I didnt watch closely enough to know what mikeys smash was, but an educated guess says it wasnt the same to which it created a 14 yrd difference. Hit one club with a smash of 138 and another club at 130, well theres your 14 yards, not the club, the player.
All these large OEM’s are using swing machines during testing and building and ping has always been known for consistent gapping. I wouldnt use a video to determine anything more than if its a club you would like to hit in a fitting.
After mentioning about golf ball would be good to hit a few with a couple of different balls to show those differences.
Hi! Mizuno 225 vs Ping i525? Thanks!
Are the retro loft and power spec just a bent std or a totally different head
As a high handicapper, I would love to see a series with Mike hitting irons in this same category as I am in the market for new irons, and would love to know where to start. I'm looking at P790, P760, i525, T200, JPX Hot Metal Pro, and JPX Forged. I want my 7 to go 155, and have a great dispersion pattern. My club head speed for a 7 is high 80's, low 90's, and would just like to see Mike to an iron Bracket head to head.
If your clubhead speed is in the high 80s, you're going to get a lot more than 155 out of these irons. I just bought the Hot Metal Pros, and with a club speed of 87 I carried it 176 on one shot at the club fitting, and that was a slightly low toe strike. Granted I turn it over a bit and take a little spin off, but I can't imagine you can take 20 yds off at that speed no matter your delivery! (For what it's worth, those irons were extremely forgiving on toe strikes, my typical mishit).
@@RyuHayabusa9000 wow, that's quite the carry. Maybe it had something to do with the ball I was using. I was happy with the Hot Metal Pros when I tried them last night, but I was in casual dress too. I'll likely get fit into those, but I am hoping the the PW doesn't launch miles as I just bought wedges, and my lowest is a 52, and I don't want to have to go grab a 48 as well just to make sure there is no gap.
@@tszampruch Good point. I used my gamer ball during the fitting, Snell MTB-X. I had similar concerns about the gapping of the wedges. I ordered SM9s in 50/54(bent to 55)/60. I haven't received the irons or wedges yet, so don't know what all my numbers are. I'm sure I'll do a gapping fit when I do get them to see if I need to adjust lofts.
@@RyuHayabusa9000 do you know if you'll be able to bend them stronger or weaker after you get them? Obviously I love numbers (as I'm sure everyone who watched TXG does), so maybe I'm just overthinking it, but right now, my 52 is my 110 club, and my PW is my 125.
@@tszampruch The Hot Metal Pros can be bent 2 degrees, and the wedges can probably be bent more since they're forged. I also ordered the Mizunos 2 degrees flat because I was consistently 2 degrees upright.
As for numbers, I think TXG ruined me for clubfitting. :) It took me 10 hours of fitting before I ordered my irons and wedges because I was obsessing over the numbers and wanting to try everything. I think there's such a thing as being too educated to make a buying decision!
this is probably going to be an unpopular opinion, but i hated my G400's, i had them less than a year before i traded them in for my new Wilson CB irons, i just felt i couldnt control my distances or square the face up to target. with the Wilsons, they are 4 degrees weaker but i am not seeing a drop off of more than 5 yards and no massive outliers that i had with the G400s.
Does RB always have a chew in!?
I’m just not sure about the sound/feel. Ping always say they’ve improved the sound and feel from previous generation to next (g700 to g710, g400 to g425 and so on) but they never really do lol. Don’t get me wrong, they make incredible clubs from driver to wedge and everything in between as well as putters but with the exception of the blueprint irons the acoustics for me are just not right. I will probably demo the 525 just to confirm lol
G series is hard to compare to.. They're really not designed for sound at all, pure distance and forgiveness. I've got i210s and they sound great, especially for a cast head. These hopefully will be close to that, which is challenging with a hollow head
I could not agree more. I picked up a second hand i500 6i just to see how they sound and felt. What a turn off. For some reason their acoustic engineers (if they have any on their staff) seem unable to keep up with acoustic technology. Very disapointed after watching numerous reviews of the i525 minimal sound improvement. For the $$ it may be a disappointment to many PING fans who were waiting for this new release.
40 yard separation between the PW and 7i seems excessive for gapping, how could you address this in fitting?
loft adjustments, ball, and likely shaft.
What happens when your playing a G410 “5” Hybrid at 26* and the 6 iron is playing a similar loft. Are we saying longest iron now becomes a 7iron as the 6&5 irons are pushing into long iron territory?
In my experience you can go as little as 2* between the highest-loft hybrid and lowest loft iron. So you could set you 5h to 24.5* or 25* and the distance gap would be about right, because of the higher club head speed of the hybrid (longer shaft, hollow build). With my Hot Metal 919 irons and Ping G410 hybrids, I go either 26* 6i to 23.5* 4h, or 30* 7i to 27* 5h, depending on how well I am swinging (better swing means I can handle the 6i).
Regarding the acoustics... Why didn't you guys hit the i500 alongside the i525 instead of "trying to remember" what the i500 sounded like? For all the added tech and R&D put into the i59 (aluminum internals) Ping just added some strips of hot metal like goop on the back of the face. Why is Ping so reluctant to use a foam. I have half a mind to try and fill an old i500 with building insulation foam just to see if there is a difference LOL.... Wonder if anyone tried to do that via the tungsten screw in the toe ?
Filling the head, restricts the ability for the face to flex. Performance (forgiveness, speed, height) > sound.
Got my fitting with Dean tomorrow in Mississauga are these i525’s going to be available?
Hi Frank, right now at our fitting studios we are still waiting on demo product to come in for the i525 irons with an expected date around early March.
The set we had for testing was simply an early media sample set for the purpose of this video.
i525 Vs P790 👌🏼
Mike are you wearing a Timuquana Country Club belt?
Retro spec those things for him !!
Test in retro spec would be interesting?
Test against P790 and Mizuno 225
such little spin... my pw is closer to 9400 and 7i is around 6600 even though my swing speed is nearly identical to Mike's
Need Ping i525 vs Titleist T200 for sure
Hi! i525 vs Rogue ST Pro? Please!!??
Please let's see RB test these against 225 and P790/770.
I525 vs Rogue ST pro vs Mizuno pro 225😉
They need to re-release the Anser irons. To this day the best irons I’ve ever played. They are 10 years old now and shit on anything out
Whats your stock PW yardage....135 easy. Proceeds to hit 6 in a row short of 131
I would love to see this tested against New Level 902 OS... To see how a forgiving forged iron compares to these power bats,
Wish Ian would’ve hit the i525 too
