I was a competitive player on the mini tours about 12 years ago an played the Miura baby blades then 101 mb's currently I play some black 501mc's .. I just tested these same i59's with LS shafts against my ti s400 miuras last week.. with my launch monitor at an outdoor range .. distance numbers were about identical.. both 7i's were 171-173yrds ..feel was really nice .. what did it for me was two things.. my miss is generally off the toe ..my Miura moves the ball left on toe shots.. i59 still hit straight I guess because of the toe weights #2 higher an straighter flight with the i59 ..could be the shafts ..I had quite the fun hitting the 59's.. I take delivery in 4 weeks ..already have the white tour stand hoofer bag an towel lying in wait lol

It seems the Industry is heading towards player’s irons with a bit of tech hidden inside. I would like to see a video comparing these with the T100 and the Apex Pro!

    • @ProfessorSteez
      @ProfessorSteez 2 года назад +6

I think the key is going to be keeping 100% pured strikes the same distance as a pretty good strike. It seems like all of these tech-packed players irons have the occasional flyer that sends it 10-15 yards farther than stock distance.
It will also be hard to match the feel of a truly forged club, but the i210 is one of the few exceptions for that so maybe it’s possible.
I’ve played AP2 712s since 2011 and titleist 910 woods since 2010 and just replaced all of my clubs with ZX7s and Tsi woods! I’m not sure clubs can get much better than they are now 🙃 Just glad I get to enjoy it!

It's marketing. Unless someone puts their clubs to the test on an Iron Byron and clearly shows an advantage on off centred hits, it's all nonsense. Even in human testing I see no gains in accuracy with any style or design of club. In fact, usually the more blade like clubs appear more consistent in the dozens of tests I've seen.

    • @mjv40
      @mjv40 2 года назад +1

@@johnnypenso9574 idk about that. I switched from my Titleist 755 Forged which are a small, thin players cavity back iron to my current Sub70 699 Pro which are hollow body distance irons. Possibly at the high end of Players Distance category. My mishits went from being 15 yards short of the green to more of a front edge type of miss at worse. I’ve hit balls out of the smooth part of the toe that didn’t get punished as much as a slight mis hit with those clubs. The 755 Forged were a forgiving club for their time too. I think the only thing that makes blades consistent is the typical player that plays them being more of an elite player.

I have the i200's and looking to upgrade and have been placing a keen eye to several RUclips video's. Your video confirms what Ping's website is saying. Bottom line is "consistency" on distance and spin. Have to say your assessment hit the nail on the head "this is a club of function"! Tighter dispersion, consistent spin and distance with that finish, I begin to see Ping is attempting to eliminate that "flyer" word from a golfers lexicon. That's pretty significant. I may have to bite the bullet, pay the price and add to my golf bag. Thank you.

Ping is the greatest iron maker. They got the fitting aspect down decades before other companies which is typically more crucial than the iron themselves. When you get to the make of the iron it’s difficult to find something that feels or performs better.

Really iked the review... I picked up a set of the I59 irons in blue dot. I play 100% Ping and decided to step into the new millennium with these irons. I was currently gaming my "Newest set" I3+. Everyone said to me when I decided to upgrade to the I59's that they were a players iron. Truth be told, aside from the offset, they are almost the exact same head size as the I3+. I will say they are incredible irons to play. I don't know about forgiveness, but they are very accurate in regards to flight, distance and pinpoint accuracy. I am extremely pleased with my selection. I also demoed the Pro forged wedges and have ordered a set in 50/54/58 to go with the I59's.

At $1750 for a full set (7 irons) Karsten has decided that their future customers are decidedly upscale. Ironically enough their ritzy Scottsdale neighbors at PXG are pushing prices down. Lol, I'm no where near a 4 handicap, but I hit these more consistently than anything I hit: P790s, 770s, Mizuno 225, Apex Pro, Rogue ST Pro, i525s, etc. I originally bought the i525s, but thought back to the sound and feel, and I didn't love them. During the same fitting I was accidentally swinging i59s for about 15 minutes that someone else was testing. We didn't realize it and thought they were the i525s. I hit them the best of anything. I called and asked if I could come back and swing them again. Even on miss hits, I hit these with a tighter dispersion than anything.
Long story short, they go in the bag next week.

I think you'll see a few of their tour guys use potentially use these in 4&3 irons. The P770 / T200 / Apex Pro / 921 Forged are cheaper and better for the 5-15 handicap crowd.

Golf is seen as an expensive sport but would be cool to quantify the difference in performance with going to some older clubs to save some coin. Can't wait for the replacement for i59's so the boys can really speak out loud about the real opinion how they hate this product. Just like they did with T200 (2019 -> 2021) and TM MG2 -> MG3.

It's easy to be disappointed when you go in thinking they're a 'player's distance' iron and comparing them to 770 before you even take a swing, or read about the product, apparently. Love these guys, but that video went wrong inside the first minute.

Can you put these up against MP20-MB…..they are my current gamers and I am itching to know if the tech gives that little bit of help while maintaining consistency, distance control and feel. I actually moved from the HMB as it had a habit of flying 10 yards further as is typical from the players distance / power bats!

This is something I've always wondered - why is handicap so directly associated with distance? I'm a mid to high handicap and my 150 club is a 9i or even a pitching wedge some days. I've always wanted a slightly more forgiving iron with traditional lofts but nothing like that seems to exist. I play blades now because everything else just goes way too far. The real kicker here is now that I'm using the proper shafts I'm getting an extra 10+ yds on each of my irons and keep flying shots over the green. It's not helping my handicap lol

What’s Ping‘s idea behind lie increments from long to short by 0.7* & 0.8* - compared to other stock lies they seem to start flat’ish while the short irons turn out rather steep? With regards to shaft droop / swing intensity in mind, I don’t understand the concept 🤷🏻‍♂️
Maybe you guys can help, love the show!

Really looks like your transition is starting late Ian.. don't know if you've been trying to do that but there seems to be a little stall when you get to the top of the backswing which looks like its making you start down quite steep and have to lay it down and rotate late.. I think if you started your downswing at left arm parallel while still completing your backswing your golf swing would flow better and really work better... Anyways just mho hope you boys are doing good

    Price topic:
It’s not where the industry have to go.
It’s us who let them go this route.
We don’t have to buy and shouldn’t, because if the companies can not sell their products they will sooner or later lower the price. At some point they have to, if they don’t want to be a brand only for the upper class.
So it’s up to us what the companies can charge us.

Yep. Ping makes great stuff and usually fit in the mid range. Less than TM and Titleist but more than wilson, cobra, srixon, etc. They could have launched these in the $1300 range with every other forged iron and done well but at $1700+, I don't know who's buying these.

I have a feeling this has something to do with the price of making irons right now with all the materials shortages.
But yeah 250 for an iron? Insane unless it’s miura. Nobody in their right mind would pay 1800 for these irons unless they have plenty of dough to shell out

Thank Bob Parsons, he proved to the rest of the industry that there are lots of golfers who are willing to be taken advantage of. Post PXG it's almost as if the big OEMs colluded to dramatically push up club prices.
Regardless, I'm sure Ping will have a huge backlog of orders for these.

@@thomaskuhn6541 yeah, unfortunately I think you will be right.
Undoubtedly, the product is great and well build and everyone who will buy it will have a great time with these.
But these prices are as you mentioned pushed to its limits and beyond, but there are enough people who literally don’t care and normal will „suffer“ and have to look at 2nd Hand markets

Hit a few in the net at my pro shop and wasn't impressed with the feel, very clicky. They aren't aimed at my level I know but my i210's are definitely staying in the bag, especially when they are $435 per iron here in Aus, I find that bordering on obscene, that is a huge mark up on the US dollar conversion and I can't see how it could possibly be justified.

  • @DaveFogel

Hit these on Sunday. Liked the 7 Iron, but its not worth $275 per iron at all. They were pretty small, and not very forgiving imo. I think I would take a P770 over them all day long.

Question: 9 handicap, play iE1. just got fit with ping. G425 looked enormous, couldn’t hit them. G725 same thing. I525 wasn’t great with. I59, couldnt miss the sweet spot. Was dropping them on the flag. 167 7 iron carry. (Wish it was a touch longer). Do you think I’m going to struggle to hit the 4 iron / 5 iron? Is my story relatable?

I play Iblade 4-pw and have for a few years (0.6index). About 2 months ago with the advise from some Ping support put an order in for a new set of iblades with identical specs to save as backups (modus 130X).
While these are the sexiest irons I have ever seen, they aren’t quite as soft feeling and launch a bit lower than iblade does. I consistently launched a couple degrees higher with 600 additional RPMs per club (same loft and shaft). Food for thought when you’re talking about $1100 vs $1900, and definitely an interesting comparison if possible.

I’m not a fan. They sound really loud. I was hoping these were for me because I could have played iblade. These are smaller looking for me.
I’m not a fan of Ping. I respect them, just not for my bag. I’m getting a new set of clubs next year. I’m looking to get out of the market for a few years because I’m hoping the OEMs getting put in check, for constantly raising prices when quality isn’t always better.
I’m looking for a good tweener iron. Something that isn’t as small as t100
But sits closer to the size of a srixon. Currently game srixon irons. Staying the similar size in a different forged iron is very appealing to me
