  • The PING irons lineup has taken a tremendous step forward in recent years, especially in the players irons category. The PING i59 irons, new in 2021, offer a slimmer package than the i210 irons, but more forgiveness than the Blueprint irons. Overall, golfers seeking a workable, soft-feeling iron have three terrific PING irons to choose from.
    In this video, 2nd Swing's Thomas Campbell and Drew Mahowald put all three of these PING irons to the test using Trackman technology. Between the i59 irons, the i210 irons, and the Blueprint irons, which iron is the most forgiving? The most workable? The best feel?

    I can only come up with 1 reason why anyone, including pro’s, would play very unforgiving irons. All I can think of is ego. Unless you are winning every pro event you enter, why punish yourself for being human? I’m not saying hit the largest most forgiving clubs out there, but certainly use a forgiving and good feeling club.

      I agree Tim. There are many tour pros out there that don't even play blades. They get it this game is hard. Cavity backs are a good option for many great players pro or amateurs. - Thomas

      You're missing one important aspect, especially for amateurs: a nice blade is just incredibly pretty and that can contribute to enjoyment and even confidence over the ball.

    Nice review. Unfortunately, I MIGHT get away playing the I210, but never the 59 or Mr. Blue. My irons are the Callaway Mavrik - love them and they have helped me become a better iron player.

      Thanks for watching. Callaway Mavrik are great, if you were considering PING I would suggest to compare G425 v the Mavrik. I see too many golfers playing an iron that is too much for them, let the clubs help you become a better iron player. - Thomas

      @@2ndswing Thank you for the reply. I actually bought the Mavriks after watching your group review of game improvement irons. I am about 15 yards longer with my 7-iron now - a combination of the stronger loft and swing improvements I made this summer. I really feel that the tungsten in the sole is a great help getting the ball up, so the stronger lofts are a benefit. I did however, add both a gap and attack wedge in the shorter irons. So thank you again for the game improvement review:

    Question: 9 handicap, play iE1. just got fit with ping. G425 looked enormous, couldn’t hit them. G725 same thing. I525 wasn’t great with. I59, couldnt miss the sweet spot. Was dropping them on the flag. 167 7 iron carry. (Wish it was a touch longer). Do you think I’m going to struggle to hit the 4 iron / 5 iron? Is my story relatable?

      i210s are great irons and surprisingly easy to hit even in relatively long irons (I stop at the 5i and then move to hybrids)

    Hovland is a 210 guy, and is definitely a tremendous ball striker- and the recent wins on tour certainly bear that out. I'm switching from Iblades to either 59s or 210s- whatever feels better in the next fitting!

    Blueprints are easily the best blades. I upgraded to the 59’s and then went back to my blueprints. If you want response you hit blueprints. If you want forgiveness you hit the other blades.

    On the other side of the spectrum, would you do G710 long irons, G425 mid, i210 short? Probably too many variables for a less capable golfer though…

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  2 года назад +1

      It is quite an extreme combo set but it can de done. The lofts with G710 & G425 are similar, Gapping between G425 & i210 will be more challenging. May have to retro spec or power spec. - Thomas

    im interested in the I59 but im currently gaming the Mizuno jpx921 forged. What would you say is the ping competitor to the 921 forged?

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  2 года назад +1

      Biggest difference between the two will be more spin with the i59. There are also more grooves on the i59 to help reduce fliers. Jpx 921 forged will go further and spin less - Thomas

    The dispersion circle for i210 is how it should look. Draw travels further and fade less. Looks like i210s

      @@2ndswing I'd say you're spot-on I've done a lot of looking and I'd say about 90% of ping tour staffers are using the i-210 still 3 years later...
      Question... have you ever pushed down on that little insert on the back of the i-210 irons that looks like it's metal from the top??
      I tried it for the first time today after the Ping rep told me to and surprisingly it's somewhat squishy.
      it's metal, but underneath you feel the activated elastomer has a lot of give. I guess that's what contributes to The Buttery feel?
      Pls try it..

      PING hasn't said anything about an i210 replacement. They feel they don't need to replace an iron that is already performing very well for them. We are also very interested in what will be next. - Thomas

I don’t see any sets here in the UK shops now so wondered if they were gearing up for a launch in the next few months? Guess I could still order though. Also saw a RUclips video of registered trade names by Karsten Ping and it showed i230 was marked earlier this year. Would hate to buy a set of clubs then have the upgrade release 2 months later🤦‍♂️ Fingers crossed it won’t be long!😁
