Welcome to Episode 115 of the Golf Show.
In Episode 111 Paul tested the new Ping i230 irons and its safe to say he was a fan!
This week he puts the i230s in a head-to-head test against Ping's i59 blades and i525 player's distance irons.
The 3 clubs are aimed at different golfers, so Paul wants to know which suits him the best.
He tests a 7 iron from each set from 150 yards, around the green and in the swing centre on GC2.
Could Paul be in the market for some new hardware after this test?

Just a point in terms of the test. Suspect the i59 was better as a grouping as by that point you had the benefit of having already hit a dozen shots to the same point. For me the i230 is the way forward! Could well be knocking the MP20-MB’s out of the bag!
The feel of the i230 is just 😍, it does spin more than the others so if you are spinny like me then you may need to get creative with what shaft you hook up with...
Hi Neo. Thanks for commenting. I agree so Ping fitted me with the Nippon Modus Pro Tour 105 regular shaft in the Power Loft option. Power loft is a couple of degrees lower loft per club which helped reduce the spin for me

I have played the I525 for six months and have found them to be easy to play but I haven’t had the problem of a flyer. I do favor the I230 and have hit them well but I’m not going to switch. Amateur golf needs to not compare 7 iron to 7 iron but distance to distance. We rarely have full shots in golf. We always need to adjust distance on every shot. Choose the club that fits the distance. If you were 145 yards the I525 would be an 8 but the other two would be 7 irons.
I was fit for and played the 525’s last yr. I traded them in and now play the 230’s…not even comparable to be honest with the 230’s being far far better.
We all have very different games and swings but if you havent gotten any flyers yet i cant explain how lucky your are. I got them quite often and im talking 20 yards. When you’re ready to take that next step the 230’s are easily worth the upgrade. I really liked the 525’s but the 230’s are in a different class of impressive.
Things of beauty all three of those, Paul. I'd be delighted to put any of those in the bag but I'm not good enough to play the i59. I've tried the i525 and my dispersion was great but strong lofts were quite apparent in the yardages. I noticed that you're trying out some funky new graphics in the opening sequence. Very nice 👌

Got a fitting last month, I was completely blown away by just how good a golf club could feel after hitting i230s with a fitted shaft. Bonkers consistency, I hadn't realized that the game improvements I'd always played were creating the fliers that I keep seeing while I'm playing, I always thought it was me being inconsistent with my power... but then the i230s just hit the yardage every time for me like clockwork on top of feeling and sounding great. I'm seriously excited for when they get delivered at the end of the month, would recommend checking them out!
I230 is absolutely incredible. But so is the Srixon ZX5/7 line. I have some i59s coming next week which are out of my league as a 10 to 12 trending down but they are my dream set.
How much did going for power lofts reduce spin and launch ?
I’ve been testing with std lofts and px io shaft , love the shaft but feel they are launching a bit high .

Hi there. Sorry for jot replying sooner. It’s not a massive reduction but hey defiantly help as I have a high ball flight.
Should of alternated with the club's.

Hi John. No they are not. The i59 is and the i525 has a forged face
@@GolfShow your right, I read it’s a forged feel, whatever that means. That’s what gives them the forgiveness. Plus the durability factor of a cast club vs Forged is big too.I like my i525s. I may buy the i230s and give them a shot as well. Thanks for the video!! New subscriber.
