- This PING golf irons comparison highlights the new PING i230 irons, and how they fit into the revamped PING golf irons lineup. Over the last couple of years, PING has added the PING i230 irons, PING i59 irons, and PING i525 irons into their arsenal. But how do they compare in a head-to-head test?

I was fitted for the 425’s late in 2021. They were a decent iron for myself, who has high handicap.
I was in our local Golf Town to purchase some balls mid summer. And they had a set of the 525’s in left. I have seen them being tested on You Tube by many. And I fell in love with the looks right away. So I had to try them out. Long story short. I walked out with the 525’s that day.
I honestly thought I would have a hard time striking the ball well on the course with my new clubs compared to the 425’s. I actually was much more consistent with my shots the the 425’s. And even the miss hits were excellent. Right away. I was at least 5 strokes less for 18 holes. I am very stoked with these irons. The look, the feel, the sound, distance and forgiveness of my new i525’s. Thanks Ping!!
I have the i525s and have hit the G425 and i230. The i230 flew as far as my 525s with 3 deg weaker loft, IF I hit it in the middle. If I didn't hit it in the middle the loss of distance was substantial compared to my i525s. The feel of the i230 on a center strike was very nice, not quite Mizuno, but not far behind. I have never hit the i59s.
Interesting, the performance of the clubs is just crying out for a blended set because the i525 performs almost exactly what I would expect for a club less in i59 or i230 (ie 5i in i525 performs like a 4i in i59 or i230). Loving the clean look of the Ping iron range - only problem is that as an i210 player I am not seeing any reason to change
Coming off taylormade t200s…love the i525s. I hit a draw with the 7-Pw and hit controlled fades with 6-4, very player friendly.
Switched my i20 for i500 but would love to try i230s even i59 but I doubt I could game them
I hit the i525 and was not overly blown away by the feel. I loved the performance though. I think the i230 in a power spec will give me the same performance with a better feel and look over the ball. At a 10 handicap the forgiveness is better with the i230 than the i59. Does this sound logical or am I off base.
What was the feel difference in the irons? Thomas I heard you say 230 was softer than the i525 but what about the 59 relative to the i230? Thanks!
Just at the weekend there I put the i230 and i59 up against my S55. All using the KBS Tour 120 S shaft. The i230 felt so weak at impact compared to the S55, and the i59 was absolutely stunning over the ball (Looks like Blueprint), and felt the best, but overall performance had to go to the older S55 for me. Can't get over how much more powerful the S55 felt.
I just picked up a like-new set of S55’s for $400. Sure beats the price of i59!

Great comparison. Any chance of comparing the i230 in power, standard and retro lofts?
Power loft will be one club stronger than Standard through the set while Retro loft will be one club weaker.

Feel wise? If anything the i525 and i59 seemed even more consistent. Impressive dispersion and heights…
What club are you hitting? 5, 6, 7 Iron? Spin rates of ~4900 to 5700 sound optimal for a 5 iron...maybe a 6-way too low for a 7i though. That said with decent angle of ~51' you probably don't need that much spin to hold a green. Is your low spin rate and high ball flight a product of such a shallow (non-steep) attack angle? Maybe from hitting on mats/artificial turf so much? Just odd numbers to see from the trackman.
Worth upgrading from i500 to i525?
Esteemed gentlemen, you do a very good job but it could be even better and a greater job. You mentioned the retro and power spec options that Ping have also. If you had conducted this comparison test with I59 power spec, I230 normal spec and I525 retro spec, the three lofts would have been much closer and the test stats much more meaningful. Rgds
But ppl who would play i59s don't want a 30degree 7iron. Each line of irons plays towards a specific golfer. It's not always about the lofts of each club.
@@ichor20 yes, that is likely so. But, firstly, a power spec 7 iron I59 is 32 degrees and not 30 degrees. More importantly, the point of testing different models at identical or almost the same lofts, is to eliminate or minimise the loft variable and derive better comparison sta

I know the i525 has a little harder feel than the P790 and especially the Mizuno Pro 225.
1. Do you think the i525 has the best distance control out of these 3 irons?
2. How would you rank these 3 irons forgiveness wise personally and with what you see in fittings?

Why can’t you put the i525 iron which has the equivalent loft as the other two for a proper comparison. Comparing an iron with 3 degrees more loft isn’t a direct comparison
