- Ping G430 Irons vs Ping i525 Irons ARE You GOOD Enough? With the Ping G430 being the most Forgiving and Distance inspired of these two, you may find that depending on club head speed and strike that you may gain a few more yards from the G430, whilst the i525 takes on the Players Distance market but with a surprising amount of Forgiveness packed in a smaller more Players looking design. The Ping i525 still is a great All Rounder.

Thanks for the video! I actually liked how you showed the misses and the way the i525 still worked well but you could feel the hit off center.
This video makes me rethink my selection of P790 over i525… been struggling a lot with toe strikes this season. Good video as always, Jay!
Glad it helped 👍
@@AskGolfNut too late! I already received my fitted P790’s! Looks like it’s lesson time,
Remember that it's always good to have a bad miss off the toe than a bad one off the heel.... I've never seen someone hit the hozel off the toe 😊👍
@@AskGolfNut 😂 brilliant! Guess this means I’m getting better at golf. Cheers Jay!
Great video! Thank you for the content, the detail of information you give is awesome! I’m on the fence right now…. I play 921 forged and got to hit i525 for the first time today. I play modus 120 and these had dg 105 s300, I really enjoyed hitting those 525’s! Brought back memories of my i20’s I had back in the day. Front to back dispersion was fantastic! Very consistent irons.
great review...well done...cheers from Canada
Thanks Jay, an interesting comparison between two contemporary clubs and also two very different looking clubs presumably aimed at different categories of golfers. So, when I checked the Maltby Playability Factor, these two clubs came out completely different. In fact, the G430 has a MPF rating of 731 i.e. 'game improvement', whereas the i525 has a MPF of 321 which put it in the 'classic' range. These two clubs therefore should be chalk and cheese!
As the years go on, I have less and less interest in the MPF ratings. I believe what I see and measure directly, and will always base my decisions on the known information rather than someone else's data where I have no access to see how that relates to real life 🤷🤷👍🏻
Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍🏻
Nice work on this. Been between clubs and this should help me make up my mind
you’re a machine! being able to match the lofts dynamically…
Luckily it's only a couple of degrees so it's not too difficult once you learn the wrist angle to implement it's just a measure of how much. 👍
I love my i525. I tried many different irons in my fitting, as a matter of fact i525 wasn't even on my radar. Once my fitter put it in my hand, I loved it. I went from a bulkier forged iron (D9). This seemed so much smaller, lighter, etc. and looking down at it, it just made sense to me. I did loose distance, but I don't mind that. You were spot on with the feel, sound, etc. My old irons I hit alot off the mat with. One of the caps on the back of the head came off after hitting so much. Wilson went good and replaced it for free for me, which I was ecstatic about. Without it, it was so loud to hit. This is partly why I went with the i525. Just being minimalist with an iron.
Has it held up for you? Cheers
@@lawbinson it has been doing just fine
Nice analysis, but main takeaway for me is to line up toward the toe.
Excellent review mate!
Thanks very much 👍
@@AskGolfNut how can i525 be similar in forgiveness to 430.. the 430 is much fatter head.
It must have something to do with the tungsten weighting of the i525, but in continuous testing in always surprised just how helpful the i525 is and the Quad doesn't lie when you see the efficiency numbers from the measured miss strikes. It does really really well. Truly opens up a choice for golfers which otherwise would normally be forced into the full on Game Improvement iron 👍
@@AskGolfNut for forgiveness how does i525 compared to 225 mizuno? Similar thickness If similar that means 225 as forgiving as 430?????????
Vs i230?
That looked very close, that i525 seems a great club
Continues to surprise with it's playability across the handicap Range. Not going to suit everyone but a club I suggest many test 👍
Was after a new set of irons so drew up a wish list based on watching many of your head to heads. Pre fitting i thought it would be the 430's or JPX's. After getting the baseline numbers with my bridgestone cavity backers the fitter blind tested me on about 10 different heads. 2 standouts for me were pro 225 and i230's. Turns out he didn't even test me on the 430's. Hit the i525 well but didn't like the feel. The more i hit the more the i230's separated from the pack. Just waiting on delivery now. Alas with the crap NZ dollar they were a dozen pro v's shy of 3 grand.
Hopefully the aussies have secured the ashes by the time you read this hehe
On balance the i230s are my favourite irons Ping have ever made. They offer surprising levels of forgiveness with unlike soft feeling for general ping irons and they are traditionally lofted..... If I was to play ping irons, it would be the i230s 👍

I’m a high handicapper, top end 70s ( age) with G25’s. Worth changing to 430’s??great report
Can you review the Ping iCrossover 2 iron for a driving iron and review the different settings as well? Your full swing speed is similar to mine and curious to see what the settings do to the flight, carry and total distance
Curious weather you feel there is a bigger gap in performance if the swing speed is in the high 70s. I am an 8 handicap and prefer the looks and feel of the i525 but currently are using Callaway XR irons which would be more like the G430.
Really having a hard time trying to decide between staying with cavity backs or moving to a players distance. Love the feel(when struck right) and look of PD irons but as a mid-handicap w/good club speed, not sure if they are forgiving enough for an inconsistent striker.
Do you know where your miss is on the face? If you do there are clubs or there to test that concentrate their forgiveness in different locations to suit different golfers 👍
@@AskGolfNut Low/thin. Come up early sometimes.
Clubs with a more central tungsten location in the head will suit a lower strike. It's the best miss to have vertically anyway. Toe being the best horizontal miss. 👍
How strokes do you think you save if you played the G430 over the i525
If your not a pro and playing in tournaments where lowest score matters how much are you losing playing the I525?
Next to nothing, to a point of where you would have to look at it over a season than individual rounds, and then the human aspect of improvement would far out way any difference in the data. i525 still surprises to this day just how good it is.... Just more expensive than the G430 so that may sway certain golfers 👍
Thoughts on club sp 80avg, for a stiff i525?
My advice would be to always get properly custom fitted, swinging a club at 80mph isn't necessarily the important thing, it's more so how that 80mph is generated and forced through the shaft. 2 golfers that both swing at 80 mph can have dramatically different requirements for shat spec. 👍🏻
Any idea when the i525 will be replaced (presumably by the i530?)?
Keep your eyes pealed as its imminent 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@AskGolfNut Thank you. I currently play a set of i500s and would love to upgrade if there is sufficient benefit...
@Macedonia270 not sure if I have the old i500 head but if I have it may well be a fun compare 👍🏻
@@AskGolfNut I think it is highly likely that Ping will make it perfect.... Any thoughts on the i525 vs the i500?
I wanna see a Ping blueprint forgiveness video…. Rumored to be most forgiving blade
After testing it personally in depth, didn't do the review due to the very small market looking at the blueprint as an option. But I can absolutely say this. The blueprint is possibly the nicest blade ping have ever ever made. However it definitely isn't the most forgiving, in actuality its quite down the list for that. It's possibly one of the smallest and cleanest looking, but forgiveness isn't one of it qualities.
Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍
@@AskGolfNut Thanks! Love the channel and appreciate the response. Where does the Blueprint fall in the realm of blades ? ( Mizuno 221 etc)
Oh yes most definitely 👍
Seems like the 525 held more distance on misshits
so interesting..common theme with reviews on all channels not just yours...game improvement iron hit centre of every green..then they get the 'better player iron out' and hit it knowhere near aswell yet say they prefer it...not a dig as i love your stuff but its all ego imo and everyones same
with the 700 a miss is virtually impossible. the greatest advantage forgone is not logical. 700 to infinity and beyond.
That is true the G700 is a club where most could make some form of contact even with their eyes closed. Although for the golfer something like the G700 if they need it for that purpose then lessons would be a much better use of the money.
Just yesterday I had a guy mid 30's swinging poorly 58mph head speed. After a single session, 75mph and much better swing dynamics. Added 45 yards to his 7 iron...... That kind of improvement will never come with equipment so I'd always want the golfer to get to a point where a more versatile iron choice can be had 👍

A miss is virtually impossible? Hold my beer! 😏
I'm surprised that the G430 with the stronger loft was hitting higher than the G225.
It's the lower CG of the 430 head over the i525. The tungsten in the head of the i525 is concentrated on the heel and toe for forgiveness, where the G430 having a larger sole and deep undercut cavity design pips the i525 just in ball dynamics 👍

I525 were horrible on thinny shots
