I just order a set of 101T and a 52, 56, 60. This is my first set of new clubs and I cannot wait to get them on the range and course this season. Only 4 year into golf and happy to retire my used Goodwill clubs.
I have the 101’s and I love them. A little bit more offset than I usually like but surprisingly workable. Soft, long and accurate. Did I mention that they’re long? A full club + longer than my old ping I20’s.
Just changed from Ping to Takomo, just great clubs at a great price, the purchase process was not as difficult as I thought, only down size would have preferred a gap wedge to a 4 iron, but that’s me, Just a great club👍
Not wanting a 4 iron and not getting a gap wedge was exactly why I didn’t go with Takomo. I hope they provide some more options in the future until then I’ll stick with what I have
I have the Takomo 201 irons. I can honestly say these clubs are amazing. For the past five years have been playing with Taylormade P790’s and PXG 0311P gen4 irons. The Takomo 201’s clearly out performed them. They feel better on impact and are more consistent, in my opinion. If you’re a doubters, before purchasing a set of big named clubs, think about how you will save 1/2 to 2/3 of your hard earned money for a quality set of Takomo irons. I did with no regrets.
Bought the original 101 irons last year. They are very similar in the looks but a bit more of a game improvement iron. I really cannot recommend them enough! I am considering purchasing these 101T irons as my game has been improving and I hope to be able to move up to more of a players iron very soon. I’ve also replaced my wedges with the forged Takomo wedges and they play really well for me. I’m sold on the Takoma brand and can’t see paying double the money for the same or very nearly the same performance.
I bought Takomo’s. Lost a 7 iron. Tried to buy another.Emailed Takomo 6 times over 6 month period. Not one time did they try to help me. They seem to be a order and debit card site with a customer service. Keep this in mind folks.
@@STONERETTE916I made an order last week but golf coach told me lie angle 3 degrees upright would not suit me and to change to 1 degree . 2 emails and 2 days later , order changed and email to say they will maybe beat the 8 week procurement for custom irons . Can’t really argue. Try dealing with ping and see how you get on
I switched from Ping to Takomo 101. Love em so far. I only wish they had a gap wedge that matched the set like Ping and Cleveland and others. I went with a 48 degree Takomo Skyforger but I still prefer the gap or approach wedge to be part of the set and same lines. Great video. Kee p the reviews coming.
I recently picked up golf again after taking 10 years away from the game. I got the 101's to replace old Callaway big Bertha hand-me-downs. Love the feel, love the look. Everyone that has tried them likes them. I recommend getting fitted before you order so you know which shaft to get.
I’ve got the 101’s and it’s elevated my game to another level. Far prefer them to my Mizuno hot metal, The forgiveness on them is superb. I would say though, it won’t cure your swing if it’s poor but if you’ve got decent fundamentals, these clubs are amazing. The 4 iron which is not a club I’ve hit well in the past, I’m hitting it lovely and it’s gives another option on the longer shots. If the Skyforger wedges are as good, that will be next on my list. , Another plus , is they are beautifully made and look really good. People do think your hitting blades and then are surprised how far they’re going. For the difference in price compared the big brands. They match up in every department in my opinion.
I ordered my 201s probably six months ago and I absolutely love them. They’re fantastic club forgiving the distances there without a doubt just an all-around great club and I came from an old set of cavity back Cleveland’s I love my new clubs
Had 101T's in my bag for 3 weeks. Replacement for Mizuno jpx850's. Distance is similar but deffo have a bit more forgiveness, even with the smaller head profile. Great clubs. Though the 6-10 week wait for them to arrive (customized) was a pain.
Love the Takomo's as a decent "backup" set and especially for that price. Still prefer my Srixon ZX7II over the 201 and 301CB's I own for both feel, forgiveness, and quality.. but for 1/3 of the price it's worth it they're at least 70% as good. Also, I found with my i525's lacking and I ended up trading them for the i230's which were way more accurate, way better of a feel, and way more forgiving - I was just getting back into golf after taking over 15 years off and went through almost every iron set out there because my last set I was still playing with was the taylormade RAC's and an R7 driver lol. I'm hitting off of a 12HCP
Only thing I don’t like about pings is the cut out at the bottom of the shaft just makes me think it’s a weak point even though pings have a great reputation
I originally ordered 101s. Used them twice and sold them on eBay they felt too easy and went too far! I then ordered the 201s. Love the clubs, have about 20 rounds on them. Being a 15hcp, I'm just getting used to them being forged and feel that I need to try the 101ts for a bit more forgiveness. They should be here in a few days, and I have a feeling my 201s will be on eBay soon. Cheers 🥂

I’m $800 into the Takomos since I purchased 48 52 56 wedges at $100 each and shipping. They are wonderful and the wedges spin fantastic. I left Ping behind since a new set was about $2200.
Just hope Takomo stays away from the commercial side of things or signs a big name and makes the clubs a fortune like other clubs. Good on you Takomo for selling a great product for a fair price.
I would love to see a full review of this club on 18 holes would also like to hear your opinion on their wedges I currently play a mix of ping glide 3.0 in gap and lob and the 4.0 in sand wedge. I like the hydro pearl since it rains a good bit in south louisiana. Any way great review
Thanks Kevin! Was just about to say that those other videos are actually all on my channel now, but think you've seen the wedge review. Hope you enjoy and it all helps somehow.
I did enjoy your video. I am currently thing about changing my wedges maybe after next season since I bought them used and only use them for practice. I am really leaning on staying with ping because of the hydro pearl finish and I live in south louisiana so it rains a good bit. I saw where you said you also play ping do u have any thoughts
@@kevinbergeron7333 only if it's not broken, don't fix it.. I get tempted to switch but the Pings are great. Personally I'm just thinking about getting newer ones from Ping as the grooves wear over time.
What I wanna know is how you got your wife to agree with your Ping purchase (3k)?!?! Was that at least the whole set (bag, putter, wedges, driver, woods) or just irons and maybe the bag? Wish these had been around when I started golfing about 22 years ago. Still, I'll likely stick with my old Mizuno MX 23's for now since my set (and age) have morphed; a 6 iron is the longest iron I use (fairway woods or hybrids up from there) so without single club purchase options, it's not as good a deal for me.
@@JonPerkinsGolf No I haven’t, but have seen a lot of other reviews, all positive. Have a son who is 50 who said he is thinking about taking up golf again, has no clubs and asked me for advice. He has looked at box sets like Strata. I suggested he consider Takomo, probably their 101s, as I have high end drivers and fairway woods in perfect condition that I have replaced that I can give him as well as wedges, just need a bag and putter. But it’s a question of what he wants to spend versus better clubs he would stay with longer and also how often he might play and how seriously he wants to take golf. Some people are quite happy with just basic so-so equipment, but it can also happen that the feedback from lower quality equipment, including poor sound and feel, just doesn’t stimulate and can be a disincentive to becoming more interested.

Personally, I think they're very solid and good value. You miss out on the fitting part, so you need to try and have a good idea what fit to order, but the clubs are very solid.
Takomos seems the way to go for every non-tour players. I will be 100% honest, I love golf really do but financialy cannot affor eirther ATM. But 100% Takomo 101/101T not much to think as a begginer.
John if you really wanna get in trouble with the wife go hit the ping i230’s. I was fit, bought and played 525’s last yr for 27 rnds. Played well with them but just didnt like the numbers, apex, decent, spin, fliers, ect…Long story short, i ran in to right guy at 2nd swing, took the $900 loss on trade in and bought 230’s….and did it grinning ear to ear. If you like the 525’s you will be blown away by 230’s. So far superior words cant express it. Easiest clubs i have ever hit and most consistent hit in 38 yrs of playing golf. Just tell wife its my fault, i’ll take the heat. 😂😂
@@JonPerkinsGolf I find them about a club shorter, but i dont need a 7i to go 175-180 yrds. I hit 230 7i 165 standard swing no problem. They are also offered in a power spec as well, just like the 525’s if you do need extra distance. I happily trade that distance for the consistency.
@JonPerkinsGolf about 5 mths, I was using a wilson 9 , these I (feel) like these are little more consistent in yardage , but could be me , you know how golfers do , that could change next week , but for the price for a forged iron , had to try them
Jon I swear you tested these at the Ridge where I’m a member. Only discovered your content as I was curious about the Takomo irons everyone seems to be loving. I have p790’s which I love, but you can never have just one set. What do you make of ordering these online and was it easy to get them customised to your specs? Love the content and I’ll be watching more of your videos from now on. May see you in the course one day too! 👍🏽🏌️
Good spot! Yep, filmed up at The Ridge and play there a little. I really enjoyed the feel of the Takomo's, very nice clubs. If you know what specs you want, I think they're a good option. Personally I think theres a lot to be said for getting custom fit though, so it's a trade off. Hope to see you around!
I almost got the 101's but they were backordered. I ended up getting pxg 0211 xcor2's. I really like my pxg's but still wonder how the takomos would be in the bag
Have seen many reviews, all done by Pro hitters, put these in the hands of a 28 hcp and guarantee the results will be way different. besides the fact of skill level, but I bet they aren't as forgiving as we are being told. I would bet that these aren't even in the same league as my old Mizuno's let alone my new ones.
I guess you'd have to try them to answer that question for yourself. I found them to be very good and assume their more forgiving models would suit a lot of players. But the main thing is people find what works for them and hopefully you've found that with your Mizuno's.
I bought a set of 101 Takomos with tour lite steel shafts. I can't say I like them. I got them 1/2 inch long to match my old Taylor Mades, and maybe that's why. They feel heavy, and I don't like the sound, either. I'm 76, and while I used to be a fairly good player, I probably should have purchased Takomo's Obsidian graphite shafts. I would have spent the extra $100 if they offered UST Recoil shafts. What do you know about the Obsidian shafts?
I dont like pings colour dot system, makes it hard to buy/sell 2nd hand and as a lefty its hard enough... Did have the i210, but moved to Srixon Z785s...
That's the tricky part, you can't. In saving money buying direct from the manufacturer, you have to know in advance what specs you want. I used my fitting info from my original set of clubs.
Ping i230’s blow away the 525’s and imo are maybe best clubs on market. Yes i have played 525’s, 27 rounds last yr. There is zero comparison how much better 230’s are.
I think, a scratch golfer could play with almost anything, a ten handicap person could possibly notice the difference between clubs, a twenty handicap may not know what the difference is. Club fitting, I think is key. A scratch to five handicap person is not showing me much. We all know you can hit the ball, color, looks and sound doesn't help me, I think? Nuff said.
Fully customized is not true, you have to order from 4 iron to PW....so not from 6 iron to PW, and they have also their own grafhite shafts. So no other brand shafts. This is also when you want to order only heads
Update: Takomo is garbage. After 20 months my 101T irons will not create any spin, hit low shots, and will not hold a green. They are made of cheap metal and the grooves collapse. I even used a groove tool to clean and in hopes for deeper groove but no go. Don’t buy clubs from a half ass cheap Finnish company made in a Chinese none quality control factory.
Let me guess. You just "loved" these, like every other RUclips influencer who "loved" them long enough to collect the money from Takomo. Funny thing, check back 3 videos later and you never find them in the bag of the RUclipsr hawking these clubs. Well, none of them other than the 1 hack on Good Good who wouldn't know the difference in a hockey stick and a golf club. Wow, you were the one RUclipsr who I never saw selling your honesty out out to become an ad man. I've unsubcribed from all the others, so it may as well be the same here.
Thanks for the feedback. I'm definitely not making any money from them, I'm just saying what my first impressions were. Want to keep my views unbiased and hope you won't unsubscribe, but do what you feels right. I saw enough in them to test them further but I'm not committed one way or the other yet, I'm a guy who needs to properly test and love something to use it. Cheers, Jon
Yeah... lets face it... there is just, usually, a metallic tube combined with lumb of stainless steel attached to end of it and wrapped a grip to the other end. It is not THAT high tech of a product... paying over 2K of iron set is, IMHO, absolutely insane...

So what are you gaming? 525 or 101ts?
Can you upload a picture of the 101s next to the i525? Trying to see if the 101s are longer blade length?
I played the 101 sadly i lost the in a house fire.. But I'll be getting a new set again for sure
Sorry to hear about the fire, hope everyone was ok. Enjoy the new clubs when you get them!
I am trying to decide between the 101's and the 101T's i want graphite shafts there is two to choose from Obsidian and Fujikara Atmos Red which do you think is the better shaft for height and distance anyones advice is welcomed thx cheers from Canada
I love these irons. 61 now, it was time to put the blades away.
I hear you :-) Glad you found what you were after.
Good review, these clubs look good and will work for most people. Don't mind the haters lol 😅
Thanks! I enjoyed hitting them and imagine others would also. I think I need to do more testing with them and make a decision.
I'm considering replacing my irons for the Takomo 101t's , are they really good irons or just good on camera ?
Garry B in Manchester UK
Personally, I think they're very solid and good value. You miss out on the fitting part, so you need to try and have a good idea what fit to order, but the clubs are very solid.
Takomos seems the way to go for every non-tour players. I will be 100% honest, I love golf really do but financialy cannot affor eirther ATM. But 100% Takomo 101/101T not much to think as a begginer.
I have Takomo201 two seasons. My previous clubs Titleist 690CB. I like Takomo201 extremely much but allso same time i miss my previous clubs?!
Great video! Weird question, what brand is your shirt? Love how it looks, keep up the great work
Thanks, really appreciate that! The shirts from a brand called Macade. They're Swedish - I found them online a couple of months ago.
Great tip and love the offer to take the heat for me 🤣
How are they for distance in comparison? Longer, shorter or same?
@@JonPerkinsGolf I find them about a club shorter, but i dont need a 7i to go 175-180 yrds. I hit 230 7i 165 standard swing no problem.
They are also offered in a power spec as well, just like the 525’s if you do need extra distance. I happily trade that distance for the consistency.
I absolutely LOOOOOVE my 101Ts and now they have a utility club out (SOLD OUT) may check out the 3 iron
Yeah the demand for that new utility club was insane!!
I have the 201's feel & sound really good
Great to hear - have you played them for long?
@JonPerkinsGolf about 5 mths, I was using a wilson 9 , these I (feel) like these are little more consistent in yardage , but could be me , you know how golfers do , that could change next week , but for the price for a forged iron , had to try them
@@jakecvma8571 yeah the price is hard to argue with!
If you like the PXG's then I'd try not to think about it 😀
I wanna see more! But I think you convinced me to get myself a set!
I really liked them on first impressions. Definitely thinking about giving them more of a run.
They look great and have distance that is crazy. I recommend them from my experience.
@timothy288 what kinda shaft are you running on them?
@@XxmarkieGxX I have the kbs tour stiff.
@timothy288 I'm stuck between tour and the tour lite stiff
Have seen many reviews, all done by Pro hitters, put these in the hands of a 28 hcp and guarantee the results will be way different. besides the fact of skill level, but I bet they aren't as forgiving as we are being told. I would bet that these aren't even in the same league as my old Mizuno's let alone my new ones.
I guess you'd have to try them to answer that question for yourself. I found them to be very good and assume their more forgiving models would suit a lot of players. But the main thing is people find what works for them and hopefully you've found that with your Mizuno's.
Are you psychic??
YES lets see another!!!
Thanks!
Get a set of heads only and put in your own shafts.
So, what's the verdict? Do you wish you had bought these first and saved the money you spent on the Pings?
I dont like pings colour dot system, makes it hard to buy/sell 2nd hand and as a lefty its hard enough...
Did have the i210, but moved to Srixon Z785s...
How are they a year later?
can't decide between 101T and 201.....maybe even 301CB,
Good luck trying to make your mind up 😃
Where can one be fitted for tacomoclubs
That's the tricky part, you can't. In saving money buying direct from the manufacturer, you have to know in advance what specs you want. I used my fitting info from my original set of clubs.
Are the shafts stiff?
Yep, both sets are stiff.
if you had to choose ... Ping or Takomo?
Im on the fence between Ping G425 or Takomo101T anyone hit both with some input?
Good question! Give me a little longer and I'll get off the fence... Want to try them in the sim for numbers.
Ping for resale, Takomo as first purchase
Ping every time
Ping i230’s blow away the 525’s and imo are maybe best clubs on market.
Yes i have played 525’s, 27 rounds last yr. There is zero comparison how much better 230’s are.
Ferrule looks broken @4:58 mark of the video.
Nuff said.
All over RUclips 🤦♂️😂
Not much shaft or grip choices? I’d spend $500-$1,000 more just to get to my specs. Not for me!
Fair enough, not for everyone. Thanks for watching
#1 shat flex 1:43
🤣yeah an annoying typo!
Fully customized is not true, you have to order from 4 iron to PW....so not from 6 iron to PW, and they have also their own grafhite shafts. So no other brand shafts.
This is also when you want to order only heads
I guess not to the extent, no. I was more meaning that you can specify loft, lie, grip, shaft etc from what they have. Thanks for watching
Sorry to hear that's your experience.
No good response on the lime light upon evidence
Not sure I know what you mean but thanks for joining the conversation!
how mad is your wife now?
haha sorry, only just seen this
Let me guess.
Cheers, Jon
What a bitter, bitter, man.
James Robinson still plays his Takomo clubs. I also still play mine, they are nice. Don’t hate on this guy for giving his opinion on them.
Cynical a little bit😂
@@allenwelden7099James Robinson is on staff with Takomo though
Why big brand cost so much it one thing only, commercial and paying players. It massive amount going to that
Yeah... lets face it... there is just, usually, a metallic tube combined with lumb of stainless steel attached to end of it and wrapped a grip to the other end. It is not THAT high tech of a product... paying over 2K of iron set is, IMHO, absolutely insane...
Where is the best place to buy these clubs.
They are only sold online - direct from the manufacturer Takomo: takomogolf.com/JONPERKINSGOLF
Definitely going to get either the 201s or the 101Ts this summer. Games going pretty well so maybe we get the 201s for headroom. Let’s win em and decision made haha. @boyddjohnson
Hope you enjoy!!
Good video. What did you go with, your Pings or the Tokomo's?
Thanks! Ping in the end. Mostly I'm used to them and the Takomo's as great as they are, didn't do enough extra to justify a long term switch. Top clubs though!
@@JonPerkinsGolf thank you!!!
