I played this entire season with the 201's. My recommendation is that only low handicap, solid strikers play the 201's. The clubs are not very forgiving. Slower swing speeds or players seeking better off center hits should avoid these clubs.
I have the 101T's. I like the consistency of the clubs, but I find I have lost a club length vs my older clubs. I haven't had them very long so I think I will regain the distance over time.
This is great as im looking at the takomo range at the moment as i want to move on from my jpx825s which ive had for a long time now. Playing of 10 im moving towards the 201s rather than 301s
I play the 201 irons. Bought the heads only based on one of your prior videos. They're built with Project X LZ 6.0 soft stepped. Really enjoying them. I switch between these and PXG Gen 3 P. I get a little bit more spin and better stopping power on 7 to 5 iron with these but also loose a little distance. Fair and expected tradeoff. There's 1 degree of loft difference between the sets. I see no difference 8 through PW. Very different feeling though. The 201's encourage better ball striking. I need a little bit of distance help (7 iron goes 150 yards) and the 201's give me that with a club that's a bit different than the mainstream. I've demoed the P770. Seeing that it's comparative to the 101t and that the 201 goes the same distance as the 101t tells me that I'm good with the 201. No need for iron envy; just play golf.
I am thinking about ordering a set of these but not sure how to choose the right stock shafts. Is there a general guideline based on swingspeed or other metric that would help with that?
Great video AJ. One suggestion, when you hold two clubs up to look at it isn't always obvious which club is which. It would be helpful if you could identify them each time. Where is elite fit golf located at?
Follow up question for you on your review. As I mentioned in my prior comment, I play Takomo 201 with Project X LZ 6.0 soft stepped and PXG Gen3 0311 P with Elevate Tour Stiff. I swap back and forth and think that I prefer the cavity back for feel and trajectory control. Wondering if you find the hollow body irons harder to fly low when desired. Also wonder if you find the hollow body irons to be more forgiving than comparable cavity back. 101T and 201 seem to perform the same for you. I also had a club building question. My 201's weigh around 8 grams more than the 0311's. Both are a D2 swing weight. I think this comes down to the different shaft weights but wondering if the 201's can be built lighter with these same shafts or if I need to go down to Project X LZ 5.5 to lower the total weight. I find that the heavier shafts improve my impact position but I can get a bit tired by the end of the round. I'd like a similar feel in the swing with a slightly lighter overall package.
Flight is primarily determined by loft so that will be the big factor. As for weight, 8g static weight is nothing in the grand scheme so I would not worry about that.
Hello! Since I live in Las Vegas it would not be practical to visit your fitting studio. My question is if I were to get properly fitted locally would you be able to assemble a set of Takomo 201’s and ship them to me?
Took a chance & purchased a set of nearly new 301 cb’s with kbs tour 110 reg shaft from eBay . I’m 58 & a struggling 7 handicapper😂. Never been a super long iron player ( 7 iron 155-165 yards) but I’ve noticed these takomos go less further by about 15 yards sometimes. BUT what I do like is the consistent dispersion I’m getting so I’m asking myself constantly do I give up that distance for better dispersion? I was custom fitted for Callaway paradyms last year with 105 stiff shafts but on the course I’ve never got on with them that well, even though the distance was better but that’s probably due to the stronger lofts in the Callaways. So maybe if I put a different shaft on the takomo? Would that help the distance side?
@@EFGMC Thanks. That was my first thought. I used to be a blade player back in the day & these 301 are so much like the old fashioned blades. I do find that punching the 301’s is more effective. And that suits me. 👍😉
If you’re a lower handicap and irons are your strength, which would you recommend? Distance is not a problem by five iron with my current set is 210. If anything I’d like to have a less aggressive so that’s more like 200 carry. I do like having the forgiveness. I don’t want to pick Club with my ego. But I also want to be able to work the ball from time to time. I have more improvement irons now and it’s almost impossible to fade the ball. If you have to exaggerate the motion so much that it’s kind of not worth it so I end up just either going straight or with a slight draw. I’m kind of in between the 201 and the 301 CB. I wish you could almost do a combo set with the irons in the 20 one and then switch to the 30 one, but the loft profile would be off.
Kind of feels like you are describing the 101t as best option. Traditional look and lofts, but more forgiving than the 301 CB. I love the 201 but it is a bit thicker looking.
Why turn off the IMPACT SPOT display for this comparison? We higher handicappers are constantly reminded that hitting it PURE is something we rarely do. So, why not point out to your devoted viewers which irons, possibly by their very design, make it harder to get to the sweet spot. Those are irons that I'd like to avoid. But then, I'm all about FEEL above all else, and not just in golf. Otherwise, keep up the good work.
@EFGMC I currently have the 101t and love and really enjoying them. My only thing is I tend to launch the ball a little higher than I would prefer. I have been thinking about the 301’s as I would be willing to give up a little forgiveness if it would bring down my launch a little. Would you think even with the weaker loft in the 301 that they would launch lower? Or do they have enough bounce on them to bend them a little stronger to bring the launch down?
@@EFGMC I have thought about that. My worry is I really like the turf interaction with them currently and worried that could mess that up. Also not really looking for more distance but could be worth a shot. I also might be being too picky, haha. But I hit some old Titleist T100 irons the other day and was getting the launch I like despite them being weaker lofts so it got me thinking. Thanks for the reply I enjoy your videos.
Im.between the 201 n 101t. What's the best way to go about picking the right kbs shaft for me through takomo. I currently have reg flex 95 gram fujikura graphite in my irons. Bur not sure if I should or ready to go to a stiff shaft. I'd like to. Just nit sure how to know when i.need to. What's you'd suggestion. Im.hitting all my current irons about 20 yards farther than when I first git them 5 years ago.
Not going to be much difference moving one flex. If you want more height, the softer shaft may provide that. If you struggle with a slice, the softer shaft may also help. If you feel like your dispersion is a little loose, the stiff shaft might be helpful there.
Noticed that the 201's offsets are similar to my 2019 Taylormade P790 (steel shafts). Randomly picked a graphite shaft (stiff) off the rack and tried the current model P790 and was hitting the 7 iron 170-180 yards. Thinking about the Takomo 201 with graphite shafts as a replacement for my 2019 TaylorMade P790. Will buy the heads-only option from Takomo. What would you suggest if you are playing the 201 with graphite shafts? 301CB or 201 or 101T? Interestingly, 201 is slightly cheaper than 101T.
301CB is essentially a blade. The cavity back is extremely small so it's by far the least forgiving. I get identical numbers from the 201 and 101t. The 201 feels better to me however I think the 101t is a more forgiving head if just by a little. Had a client who I built a set of 201s for coming from P790. He ended up going back because the 201 wasn't forgiving enough for him as a 10-12 hcp.
@@EFGMC so my 2019 P790 is probably going to gain me some distance with a graphite shaft (just bought the Fujikura Axiom 75 for a 5-PW) but not loose accuracy if I stay with them despite it is older - when compared to the Takomo 201 … probably not going to 101 as it is not forged.
I am currently playing a set of Bridgestone J15DF irons. I am looking for a little more distance and slightly more forgiving. The 201 seems like the right fit. Does that seem right?
Quick question.... I know that you change the feel of the 101T by putting hot melt glue in it. How does the feel compare to the others once you've done that? I have a couple of forged sets of irons that I have grown to really enjoy the feel, and have wondered if I will ever go back to cast. However, if you can customize them enough to meet needed specs, it's really a smarter club to purchase. I hate how my Hogans get dinged up in the bag.
@@deacontoby1 I don't have the patience for headcovers for my irons. I take good care of my clubs, but I get irritated having to pull them on and off my woods and hybrids.
One length clubs are all the length of a 7 iron. If you want to do that, you need to have all your shafts new and cut to the same length. I don’t like a long 9 iron or wedge. I would recommend trying them before buying them. I watched Bryson and thought it was the answer until I tried them. I quickly realized I really just wanted 7 iron length 6,5, and 4 irons. So I cut those shafts down to match and bent them a touch stronger loft and lie to accommodate the new length.
I am also playing the JPX 923 Tours and am seriously considering picking up a set of Takomo 301s to compare. I’ve got KBS Tour 130s in them right now and absolutely hate those shafts. Looking for almost any excuse to go to something lower launch like the KBS C-Tapers
I was playing the WS D7 Forged prior to the 923s. I loved the KBS $ Lite 105s. The feel was fantastic. I am waiting for Takomo to offer the new copper and black faced limited addition before making a decision.@@BigDawgCAM
I went to a PING fitting day recently and got fit into the i525 irons with the Project X IO shafts in stiff. Would you recommend the 101T over the 201 for me? Previously played off +3 but that was 6 years ago, I'm older now and wouldn't say no to extra distance and lower spin 🤔
@@EFGMC I saw a set in person and it’s not gonna be for me then. I may look at the cbs though. I’ve had to bend loft onto my srixon zx7s twice . They keep going back strong a shit and I don’t need a 200 yard 7 iron but I like the forgiveness🤣
Takomo would be wise to replace the 201 and 301CB with a single model, with lofts and ball speed numbers in between the two. Currently the 201 is too similar in performance to the 101T, and the 301CB is too similar to the 301 MB. And of course, it would be nice if they offered the ability to combo their sets, from the 101T down to the 301MB. And you really only need one club model to do that, not the current two.
Takomo is based in Finland and heads are made in a foundry in China. Don’t let that worry you. I have been building and repairing clubs for 35 years and have built all of the Takomo models and they are as good as any name brand. Out of 19 (133 individual heads) sets I’ve built and sold I have only found 3 heads that were slightly off the stated spec.
I wish direct to consumer brands payed more attention to lefties. Sub 70 is the only brand that really does. Takomo only makes the 101 and 201 Ben hogan golf only makes the apex edge and wedges New level only makes the 902 os and wedges They make only the game improvement irons for lefties and forget about a big demographic in golf
From everything that I have heard and read the answer is that no you can't. The company currently sells only full sets 4-PW. While you didn't ask, you also cannot sub out a gap wedge and delete the 4 iron. You can get lie, loft, and length adjustments for a fairly small fee.
Takomo's are absolute trash. They last about one year, tops. You get what you pay for. I had the Takomo 101s. First issue was that the heads started tilting off of the shaft. Sent photos to Takomo and they agreed to repalace them, but had the audacity to blame KBS. I spoke with KBS and they said they were going to have a word with Takomo, after they saw the email Takomo sent me. Fast forward three months and I get the new irons and they are just freaking ridiculously good. Fast forward a year later and the heads are literally flying off on the driving range. Not hitting fat. Pure, ball first contact, with a bacon strip divot. Going to tryout the Pinemeadow Golf single length irons now, but Takomos are just trash. It's just a matter of when they start to fall apart, not if.
Takomo is garbage. After 20 months my 101T irons will not create any spin, hit low shots, and will not hold a green. They are made of cheap metal and the grooves collapse. I even used a groove tool to clean and in hopes for deeper groove but no go. Don’t buy clubs from a half ass cheap Finnish company made in a Chinese none quality control factory.

This is great as im looking at the takomo range at the moment as i want to move on from my jpx825s which ive had for a long time now. Playing of 10 im moving towards the 201s rather than 301s
201 is way friendlier then the 301 especially in the 4 and 5 irons.
I just brought my 201s back out yesterday and fell in love all over again. I'd keep them if I hadn't lost the 5 and 7 iron.
@@EFGMC lost or threw into the woods ? 🤔
@@TubbsMcGhee Completely lost the 5 iron. Most random club to lose I know. 7i was repurposed.
I am thinking about ordering a set of these but not sure how to choose the right stock shafts. Is there a general guideline based on swingspeed or other metric that would help with that?
Just be safe and get 100g shaft. If your very small or older guy you could go down to 60-85gram
Got the 301 blended set and that cavity back isn't really a cavity, more cosmetic than anything. It didn't seem any more forgiving than the MB
Great video AJ. One suggestion, when you hold two clubs up to look at it isn't always obvious which club is which. It would be helpful if you could identify them each time. Where is elite fit golf located at?
Should have done that. I am in Atlanta.
How much can you bend the lie angle for the 101T?
Hi, Any chance of reviewing the Takomo 101 irons please?
It's the loft more than anything. 301 has very high lofts compared to a Callaway GI iron. No surprise you are a club and a half shorter with them.
@@EFGMC Thanks. That was my first thought. I used to be a blade player back in the day & these 301 are so much like the old fashioned blades. I do find that punching the 301’s is more effective. And that suits me. 👍😉
Nice video and super cool you fit Wedgley I’m a frequent viewer of BB channel. Could you bend 101ts a degree stronger and 1 degree flat?
Would you say the 201s would compare to the titleist t150s?
The 201's were 2 more degrees stronger than what they are now when they first came out. Probably helps with forgiveness
AJ could you do vid on repair graphite shafts with bag wear if you are able to fix or have you got to replace shaft?
Bag wear is usually just cosmetic. I am not sure how you fix those marks unless you repaint them.
@@EFGMChmm their site says 201's bit less offset and 6mm topline instead of 7 on the 101T 🤔
You could bend down the 101t a degree or two before you jump ship on them.
Thanks again, like your videos👍 you are so frank and craft💪💪
Is the 101T similar to the mizuo pro 225 and T200??
Good information before I pull the trigger on a set
I have gamed both the JPX 919 and 921 Tour. Current season I gamed the Titleist T150. Would 301 CB/MB combo set be a good choice?
The CB is so close to the MB that I usually recommend just going straight 301 CB. They are going to be a little thinner than the T150.
Being that the metal in the 201 and 301 are "soft". How do the clubs age? Would you expect the clubs to last?
shouldn’t be an issue. they’ll look a bit worse than cast irons years down the line, but thats a long ways away
Playing miura-blades right now but there are old and so punishing on misshits. Should I go with the 301 cb’s ?
Dude I’m in the same boat with mizuno mp33s, sooo hard to hit now and I think I’m gonna grab MBs or CBs
I am currently playing a set of Bridgestone J15DF irons. I am looking for a little more distance and slightly more forgiving. The 201 seems like the right fit. Does that seem right?
Or the 101t
Love the way you love each other.
They are still a little different but it's a good feel.

Thanks, AJ!
A little extra like head covers prevent the dings!
@@deacontoby1
I don't have the patience for headcovers for my irons. I take good care of my clubs, but I get irritated having to pull them on and off my woods and hybrids.
Is there a way to make any iron set a one length set? If so how could you do that?
One length clubs are all the length of a 7 iron. If you want to do that, you need to have all your shafts new and cut to the same length.
I don’t like a long 9 iron or wedge. I would recommend trying them before buying them. I watched Bryson and thought it was the answer until I tried them. I quickly realized I really just wanted 7 iron length 6,5, and 4 irons. So I cut those shafts down to match and bent them a touch stronger loft and lie to accommodate the new length.
AJ, I am currently playing the 923 Tours. How would you compare the Takomos regarding sound, feel and forgiveness to the Miz?
I think the 301CB is very close to the Tour.
I have p790s I wonder which of these is closest to those?
Which one would be similar to p790? Cause I'm playing p790 (2017).... Time to change 😅
The 101t is closer to the 770. The 790 doesn't have a close match in the Takomo lineup.
Too bad more fitters won’t do these.
I’d love to try a set but not unfitted, can’t take that chance
What do I need to do so you can fit me for tacomo irons?
Book a fitting at the studio.
What is recommended for a 10 handicap currently playing the titelist T300
The 101 is closest to the T300. The 101t or 201 would be closer to the T100 or T150.
I didn't know anyone was able to fit these irons. I thought you could only order directly from their website.
I fit them here.

@@jasondavis6831 that's a little far for me tor travel for a fitting.
I got pretty much identical distance out of the 101T and 201. Maybe the 101T is a fraction more forgiving but the 201 is more solid feeling to me.
I play Ping I230's... Which one i choose to be similar.
101 or 101t depending on if you want more forgiveness or more players style profile.
Can you bend the offset out of the 101t and remove some of the offfset?
No. The 101t is not very bendable since its stainless. That said, I think the 101t have very minimal offset for the head style.
@@EFGMC I saw a set in person and it’s not gonna be for me then. I may look at the cbs though. I’ve had to bend loft onto my srixon zx7s twice . They keep going back strong a shit and I don’t need a 200 yard 7 iron but I like the forgiveness🤣
The 201's look a lot like my Ping i200's. Would they be comparable?
Yes takamo 201s imo were patterned after ping i210 hence 201… I would say they are more similar to Ping i200 than Srixon and in between I200/210
Are the 101T bendable?
yup, just not to much
What number irons were you hitting in that demo?
7i
Where are you located
do the 3 have the same shaft weight? and what is the weight?
Three in the thumbnail picture are different but it was the same shaft I used when hitting them all. Think I used 120g Dynamic Gold??
why ignore the 101??
Takomo would be wise to replace the 201 and 301CB with a single model, with lofts and ball speed numbers in between the two.
Currently the 201 is too similar in performance to the 101T, and the 301CB is too similar to the 301 MB.
And of course, it would be nice if they offered the ability to combo their sets, from the 101T down to the 301MB. And you really only need one club model to do that, not the current two.
I am 50. Hit 7 iron 165-170. I am thinking 201s. Should I go graphite? Or is there a big difference w/ them and the tour lite KBS shafts?
I have no info on the graphite shaft that Takomo uses. Never seen one in person so I can't speak to it.

Word on the grape fine is these aren’t made as good as when first introduced! Do you have any info!

Takomo only makes the 101 and 201
Ben hogan golf only makes the apex edge and wedges
New level only makes the 902 os and wedges
They make only the game improvement irons for lefties and forget about a big demographic in golf

Can you combo a set
From everything that I have heard and read the answer is that no you can't. The company currently sells only full sets 4-PW. While you didn't ask, you also cannot sub out a gap wedge and delete the 4 iron. You can get lie, loft, and length adjustments for a fairly small fee.

Cheap Chinese metal club face. Loved mine until the grooves were horrible. Lost ball height and carry over time. S20 steel too soft.
What shaft did you have in them? Was it the C Taper Lite?
Check out the most recent LetsPlayThru series. It might be another option for you to consider
Epoxy issue? Very easy fix if you like the heads. I hope this was an aberration, as someone just gave me a set. I love the look. Hope they hold up.

There are NO right takomo clubs to get as they are so fucking badly made it's a rip off
Fellas, are the 101T’s that different than the 101’s? I am about a mid-high 80s player looking for guidance, leaning toward the 101T’s. thanks!
101t is pretty small and traditionally lofted. The 101 is more forgiving and stronger lofted.
